Police officer fired, charged in sexual misconduct case

The Orofino Police Department (OPD) received a report on Dec. 8 alleging sexual misconduct involving one of their officers. The report alleged that officer Jereme K. Daw, 28, had engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female.

Daw was fired Dec. 17 during an investigation on the charges by the Idaho State Police.

He has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old. Having sex with someone younger than age 18 is illegal in Idaho.

Daw faces a maximum 15 years in prison. He is scheduled for an initial appearance in magistrate court in Orofino on April 9 at 1:15 p.m. according to court records.

After the police department received the report in December, Daw was immediately placed on administrative leave with pay and the police department began an internal investigation to determine if Daw had violated any City of Orofino or Orofino Police Dept. personnel policies.

The police department contacted the Idaho State Police and requested their agency conduct a criminal investigation regarding the allegations to determine if any violations of law had occurred.

The Idaho State Police recently concluded their investigation and submitted it to the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office, who agreed to review and/or prosecute the case at the request of Clearwater County Prosecutor, Clayne Tyler.

“The Police Department did not immediately release this information because of the ongoing criminal investigation. They did not want to release information that would impede, or otherwise, adversely affect the State Police investigation,” stated Jeff Wilson, Orofino Police Chief.

“Since that case has been submitted to the prosecutor’s office we believe it is appropriate and necessary to release this information. For additional information please contact the Idaho State Police or the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office. The Orofino Police Department will not be commenting further on this matter,” said Chief Wilson.
