Home School
Idaho Distance Education Academy (I-DEA) is providing an information session Thursday, April 3, from 2 – 4 pm, in Orofino at the office of Idaho Commerce and Labor. I-DEA is a public charter school which provides resources and support to students and parents who have elected an education in a home setting.
Charter schools are sponsored by the public school system, and must meet the same stringent education requirements. However, charter school educators and parents have greater flexibility in establishing curriculums that anchor students in solid educational foundations to increase children's learning potential. I-DEA serves the home educated student population throughout the state of Idaho.
The Whitepine Joint School District chartered Idaho Distance Education Academy, a state-wide virtual charter school, in 2004. I-DEA currently has approximately one-thousand students state-wide and approximately forty-eight employees. I-DEA provides support and materials to parents who have decided to educate their children within their home.
The mission of the Idaho Distance Education Academy: Through technology and partnership between parents and educators, the Idaho Distance Education Academy promotes and supports a modern education system that delivers innovative, relevant, and rigorous education to each child. I-DEA is now accepting applications for admissions for the 2008-2009 school year. The admissions period will end May 1, 2008.
