CLEARWATER TRIBUNE HOME

From this Chair...

By Cloann McNall

Recently I made a trip to the printing plant on Grangemont Road and while there a car pulled up behind me to check to see what I was doing. “Not much,” I replied. Once I was recognized as a family member they drove away.

A short while later while cruising down Michigan Ave. my traveling companion two-year-old Mary Jane accidentally put the Jeep in neutral. That caused a little noise and commotion as we were passing by the Orofino Elementary School. I looked over at Mary Jane and said “I told you not to touch the gear shift.” She kept staring out the window as if she didn’t hear me.

We crossed over the Orofino Bridge and headed west on Highway 12, cruising along in the dark, listening to the music. Things were going well when I noticed a car following closely behind us. I slowed down to 45 mph hoping the car would pass but it didn’t.

Next thing I knew there was flashing lights behind us. I pulled off the highway into Clearwater Home’s parking lot, turned off the ignition, turned to Mary Jane and said “This is the last time you get to ride in front with me.” She blinked her big brown eyes and snuggled closer.

When the officer came to the window he said, ”You have been reported as a possible DUI. Can you see?” I pointed to Mary Jane and said “Yes, I can see! See this little girl to my left? That’s why I was having trouble driving.”

He said “I’ve been following you since the elementary school. Where have you been and where are you going?” I told him I’d been to the printing plant and was on my way home. He said “Yup you’re the one!”

While the officer checked the insurance, registration and license I looked at Mary Jane and told her “If I go to jail you are going too!” but all she did was snuggle closer and kiss my face.

Well, we didn’t go to jail but the officer did tell me “If you can’t control Mary Jane, leave her home.” “But officer,” I said, “she hates being left alone and this is strictly a socialization event for her.”

He murmured “Next time!” I couldn’t be too angry at little Mary Jane as after all she is just a sweet little black Pug.
