OHS Knowledge Bowl attends Regionals

By Lois Sargent

On Feb. 17 the Orofino Maniac Knowledge Bowl Team traveled to Moscow to the University of Idaho where they competed at the INL tournament on its twentieth anniversary. The quizmasters were thrilled to see us; it was the first time in 20 years that an Orofino team competed at Regionals.

The team dressed up sharp and had a good day, missing a berth to state by only 20 points in the final game.

In the first round we had a bye, and our play started in the second round against Kellogg High School. We easily trounced Kellogg. In the second game we faced Coeur d’Alene Christian Academy, who apparently wins every year, and they beat us and everybody else that day.

In the third game we conquered our local nemesis, the Grangeville Bulldogs, without any trouble at all, which surprised us. The fourth game was the excitement of the day though, as newcomer, Orofino played Timberlake High School for the second berth to state competition.

The game was neck and neck up till the last, with Timberlake rallying at the very end and Orofino slipping behind by only twenty points for a loss.

It was a fun meet, we played well, we looked good and the team had a great time, and that is what Knowledge Bowl is all about.

Our next regular meet is at Highland High School on Monday, March 15.
