CLEARWATER TRIBUNE HOME

The gray, lined box in the center of this river-side view of Orofino City Park is where Dan Korbel, a Boy Scout with Troop 536, hopes to build a set of river access concrete steps from the park’s sidewalk. Korbel chose the steps for his Eagle Project.

River access steps at Orofino City Park are local Boy Scout’s Eagle Project

Dan Korbel, a local Troop 536 Boy Scout, decided on concrete steps to access the river from the dike sidewalk at Orofino City Park for his Eagle Project.

Perfect for carrying rafts and canoes to the river, the steps will be eight feet wide and extend nearly to the water.

“I feel it will benefit the community by making an easier entrance and exit from and to the river,” said Korbel. “I am planning for the steps to be finished by the end of this coming summer.”

Monetary donations from the community are needed and welcome. An account has been set up at AmericanWest Bank and donations to attention: Troop 536 Eagle Project can be made there. The bank’s mailing address is P.O. Box 2258, Orofino, ID 83544, and its telephone number is (208) 476-9200.

Also to help with funding for the steps, the scouts are holding a drawing for one full cord of dry Douglas Fir firewood, which will be split and delivered to the lucky winner. Local scouts are accepting donations for the drawing tickets.

Persons with questions about the project or about donating may contact Dan Korbel at (208) 476-4186.
