Betty Alberta Firzlaff, 72, Spokane
Betty A. Brownlee Firzlaff of Spokane, WA died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 9:27 a.m. following complications from surgery. She was 72.
Betty was born on Sept 9, 1937 in Spokane to Barney and Sylva Brownlee.
She attended the Five Mile school and graduated from Mead High School in 1955 where she was a badminton state champ and even ran on the boy’s track team. She married Jim Firzlaff in June 1956 and they had four children while living at Newman Lake, Genesee, Orofino, and Hayden Lake before settling in Spokane.
Betty grew and taught the kids then worked for Clearwater County as the Zoning Administrator.
Betty is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jim; daughter, Julie and sons Cory, Dan (Tami), and Jim II (Jamie); grandchildren Jamie, Jared, Travis, Tannar, Tysen, and Trent; one great-granddaughter, Jacy; her mother, Sylva Brownlee; brothers Tom (Lauri) Brownlee and Mike (Lori) Brownlee; sisters JoAnn Allen and Claudia (Lee) Schorzman; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at The Intersection Church, 905 N. McDonald Road, Spokane Valley at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6.
Shelley T. Sprague, 59, Clarkston
Shelley T. Sprague of Clarkson died in a local hospital from smoke inhalation in her home.
She was born in Maine and received her formal education there before moving in 1993 to Lewiston to be near her mother Lydia Norton Dennis.
Shelley worked for 17 years at the Lewiston Tribune where she enjoyed her role in outside sales for the classified.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Aaryn and Melissa, two grandsons and a sister Lee Ann Pippenger of Orofino.
Her mother died in June, 2009.
Carl Biats, 46, Weippe
Carl David Biats, 46, Weippe passed away at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino on Monday, March 1, 2010. No services are planned at this time and cremation will take place.
Pine Hills Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in care of arrangements.
