After leaving her family’s small farm in Grangemont in 1939,
Margaret Calland came to the big city of Orofino to finish high
school. She was able to stay with her aunt and uncle, Claire and Tim
Edwards on Michigan Avenue.

A revised plan for keeping all (30) state parks open was voted upon
Feb. 25 by the Idaho Parks and Recreation Board (IDPR).

school board meeting Tuesday, March 9
A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of District 171 has been
called for Tuesday, March 9, at 5 p.m. at Orofino High School
Library. The location is 300 Dunlap Road, Orofino.

Candidacy filing deadline set for Clearwater County election
Six Clearwater County offices are up for election in May. Persons
wishing to run for a county public office in the forthcoming
election May 25 must file a Declaration of Candidacy offices with
the Clearwater County Clerk’s Office between March 8 and no later
than 5 p.m. on March 19.

The Clearwater County Assessor’s Office announces you may now sign
up for the Circuit Breaker Property Tax Reduction Program sponsored
by the State of Idaho.

Hospital chimes announce twins' birth
Double chimes were played at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane early
Tuesday morning to announce the arrival of the Howland twins,
Braylon Michael and Kaden Darold Howland sons of Bryan and Ashley
(Stanton) Howland of Lewiston.

County Sheriff’s Department offering $250 reward
The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Department is investigating damage
to a parked vehicle on Highway 11 across from the Timberline High
School in the early morning of Friday, Feb. 19.

$500 reward
for missing county road signs
A $500 reward is being offered by Clearwater County for the
successful prosecution of anyone accused of illegally removing
Clearwater County road signs.

As the second week of the penny drive for the Museum comes to an
end, we are pleased to report the following: I was contacted by Lyn
Anderson, from our local Kiwanis Club and she informed me that this
was a project that the “K-Kids” would like to help with.

This winter has been busy for members of Greener Clearwater County (GCC).
The recycling trailer located in the parking lot of the Nazarene
church on Michigan Avenue is proving to be very popular.

students win U.N. competition
Four area high school students competed Feb. 21 for the annual U.N.
Pilgrimage for Youth program sponsored by the local Odd Fellows and
Rebekah Lodges. Only two out of five local schools had
representation at the competition.

County receives conservation funding
A decision on keeping Dworshak State Park open or not, will be made
in a teleconference meeting scheduled today, Thursday, Feb. 25.

Four new
Verizon Wireless cell sites in Clearwater County
Four new Verizon Wireless cell sites in Clearwater County are now
active. The sites will enable improved coverage from Highway 12 west
of Ahsahka, south to Orofino, east to Konkolville and pushing north
along Grangemont Road, according to a press release issued by
Verizon Wireless.

Lena M. Barazza, 21, of
Orofino was arrested Feb. 25 for possession-related charges, according to
Orofino Police Department (OPD).
