Local artist gives to ICARE, ‘Golden Dreams’
Story by Coleen Jones, Artist
April of 2008, the snow has not yet vanished from the banks of the Selway River here in Idaho and the spring run-off is flowing low for this peak time of the year.
Driving upriver into an area where I worked, Mother Nature revealed an unexpected sight; what she calls a fine piece of ‘gold’. It fits Idaho perfectly, unseen by most, but sought out by many: a 7x7 bull elk, standing in the freezing cold water of the Selway River.
I marveled at the sight of such a prestigious animal, with his notes of elegance and grace. As the frozen winter water rushed against him he stood, and I took one picture after another. It amazed me that with the high snowpack that fell that year, and with wolves in play, this big boy never missed a beat. He’s a survivor! He still lives and I plan to spend more time venturing out to see if our paths may cross again. I shall name him ‘Golden Dreams’.
Coleen has chosen to put ‘him’ in a raffle for the ICARE (Cancer Assistance & Recovery Effort) project benefiting people in the Clearwater River area. Her heart is as big as this royal bull! ICARE sincerely appreciates her heartfelt contribution!
The drawing will be held at Orofino’s Tenth Annual Spring Round-Up and Idaho State Championship Elk Calling Contest held at the City Park on April 10.
This piece is a painted digital art print with quality craftsmanship, materials, and work going into the framing by Bill Bosse at Valley Graphics. Only two prints will be made of ‘Golden Dreams’. The first, numbered #1, will be raffled and #2 will be kept by the artist, Coleen L. Jones, Onyx Photography. The framed size is 42”x 35”.
Tickets are $2 each or a book of 10 for $10. Ticket holders need not be present to win. In her words, Colleen says ‘Pitch in for the ICARE project and ‘Golden Dreams’ of true vision.
