   Donald Konkol has been appointed by Gov. Phil Batt to serve on the Idaho Forest Products Commission.

   Orofino High School Maniac basketball cheerleaders are Colleen McLean, Charlene Gehrke, Tricia Staab, Sarah Jones and Rachelle Weaver.

   Sonny Schilling was named RSVP Volunteer of the Month.

    Amy Larson has the chance of a lifetime to join 15 other cross country athletes from Idaho in Australia in June for the first Harrier Down Under Country Invitational.

   Orofino Junior High JV basketball team members are Kacy Field, Nick Manfull, Gary Ausman, Dustin Wilhelm, Justin Staab, Adam Hannah, Ryan Clark, Sean Nelsen, David Deyo and Seth Danielson.

   Brian and Marie McGoldrick were named King and Queen Valentine Days at the Senior Citizen party.

   Joan Mount was honored by the BPW organization as Woman of Progress.

   Chuck Raddon is the new Clearwater National Forest recreation specialist.

   Enlargement of the new Weippe-Pierce High School gym length by 10 feet to a 50 by 94 court and wall area 85 by 104 feet was approved  by school trustees.

   Mr. and Mrs. Fred Altmiller announce the engagement of their daughter, Francine to Jerrold (Butch) Finke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Finke.

   Grade 3-Mrs. Hancock-Those who reached the moon on the spelling rocket are Gary Donner, John Herhberger, Susan Jordon, Randy Hollibaugh, John Pederson, Jay Williams, Bobby Jo Ward, Beck Lucas and Peggy Campbell.

   Grade 4-Mrs. Peer-Seven have been neither absent nor tardy. Ben Barstow, Debra Brown, Kevin Burch, Cathy Dale, Don McGoldrick and Kenneth Seward.

   Grade 2-Mrs Guetschow-Billie Beck celebrated his birthday Feb. 3.

   Those having 100 in spelling are Tammy Baugh, Billie Beck, Brett Berry, Sandra Benedict, Steve Claffey, Kathy Dahl, Randy Finke, Kurt Lemmon, Kevin Macy and Nancy Parton.

   Second district double and triple A basketball teams will meet in Orofino. Portable bleachers will be added to the gym and will accommodate 1200.

   Weippe Gorillas reached the semi-finals in the Class A District Basketball tourney in Lewiston before getting eliminated by Genesee. On the team are Gale Mutum, Larry Mueller, Bob Miller, Steve Johnson, Alvin Crouser, Larry Borders, Larry Judd, Gary Bennett, Tom Jared, Bud Laws and Preston Teed.

   Asotin Methodist Sunday School Intermediates defeated the Orofino Methodist Intermediates in basketball 29-23. Playing for Orofino were Mark Swayne, Adrian Nelson, Sam Bacharach, John Baugh, Rick Danner and Gilbert Gray.

   First Clearwater County boat license was issued this week under a new law that calls for licensing of all boats that operate in Idaho waters.

   Collection of hunting knives to better equip American soldiers fighting in the jungle of the South Pacific has been undertaken here as a Lions Club project.

   Hayes Dawson grocery advertised this week MD Tissue  3 rolls for 22 cents; Maca Yeast Cakes 3 cents each; Our Mothers 1 lb cocoa 15 cents and Gum Drop Candy for 17 cents a pound.

   The sawmill of Potlatch Forest, Inc. will resume cutting on March 2 after a shut down for several weeks and employment will be furnished for 200 men.
