Lunar eclipse visible over Fraser

By Norma Brand and Cathy Walker

The skies over the Fraser area were mostly clear on the night of Feb. 20.  Around 5:30 p.m. a full moon appeared over the mountains to the east. Area residents were able to observe this golden globe as it climbed into the night sky.  Mother Nature decided to cooperate this time as we all waited to view the eclipse of the full moon.  It was an awesome site to see as the earth moved between the sun and the moon.  By 7 p.m. the show was over, but the memory of this special event will linger with us.  Remember to watch for a repeat performance in the year 2010.

Marie Green reported she is happy to be back in Fraser again.  Steve and Norma Brand stopped in for a visit on Wednesday, February 20th.  Marie’s son, Mike, is making it possible for her to enjoy her home again. He has taken over the roll of chef, housekeeper, and general maintenance man.  Mike had a chocolate cake to serve with coffee while the Brands were there. This was his first attempt at baking in 10 years and everyone agreed he did a great job.

Mike will be at the Weippe Discovery Center on Friday, Feb. 29, to give a juggling demonstration.

The Discovery Center is sponsoring a Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration on Friday, and Mike will add his talents to this fun event. Terri Summerfield reported the 21st Century students will attend the celebration, but everyone is welcome to come.

Izzy Brown celebrated her 10th birthday on Saturday, Feb. 23.  Heather and Tony Christopherson, Maryann Anthony, her son, Logan, and Logan’s girlfriend, Kelsey Kinsor, came for dinner. Izzy’s cake was decorated with a treasure chest.  One of her gifts was a DVD of the Pirates of the Caribbean III. Can you guess what the theme for her party was?  Michele and Cory plan to take Izzy and some of her friends bowling on the weekend.

Izzy and her cousin, Emma Brown, have been attending an art class at the Pierce Community Center on Monday nights.  The girls are having a great time getting acquainted with drawing, water color painting, and charcoal drawing.

Cory Brown has been an Official Referee for basketball during the past five years.  On Feb. 13 through the 16 he traveled to Boise with two other referees from this district for the Girls’ State Basketball Tournament.

Michele accompanied him on the trip. While they were there, Cory’s sister, Danette, her husband, Josh, and daughter, Grace, visited them at their motel and Grace enjoyed swimming in the pool. Donna and Danny Brown stopped in on their way to Las Vegas. Michele reported they had a great time and that she watched a lot of basketball for these four days. Their daughters remained in Fraser and were excited to have Mom and Dad home again.

Clint and Bobbi Boyer have started developing their new home site, across from Larry and Sherry Schlader, on Lower Fords Creek Road.  Clint and a representative of Clearwater Power Company were looking over the project on Tuesday, Feb. 19, when the Brands drove by and stopped to get an update.  Good luck to the Boyers, it’s a beautiful location.

Dale and Oreta Stuart have had to repair a broken wire to their pump. The Brands stopped by to see if Steve could help Dale, but he had discovered where the break was and Chris Anderson would repair it on Monday.  Oreta and Norma had a good visit while waiting for the men.  Digging in the mud! What a way to celebrate your birthday, Dale!

Chuck and Ruth McHone are doing fine. The snow is melting around their house. They moved to their present home on Thornton Road on March 5, 1951.  Chuck said there was 18 inches of snow on the ground that year.  It was the day the Thornton twins, Donna and Mona, were born.

Donna and Bill Jackson have been taking it easy this winter and waiting for spring to come.

Cathy Walker stopped by Keith and Shirley Lutes’ on Sunday, Feb. 24 to take Shirley’s order for a birthday calendar.  Jeniffer Robinson and her daughter, BreeLynn, were visiting Keith and Shirley.  Cathy almost didn’t recognize BreeLynn.  It has been awhile since she has seen her.  BreeLynn was getting ready to help grandpa do the chores.

On Sunday, Feb. 24, Cathy Walker enjoyed visiting with Pete and Janet Kingen, Donna Jackson, and Marie Green. It was sure nice to see Marie getting around in her house.  Marie said that Mike is a good cook.

Congratulations to Andrew Blain from Timberline Schools on winning the UN Pilgrimage for Youth trip that was sponsored by Odd Fellow and Rebekahs Lodge on Sunday, Feb. 24.
