Marge Kuchynka sent a note saying the second meeting of the year for Camas Festival committee will be at the Weippe Discovery Center, 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20. The meeting will be limited to one hour. The agenda includes reviewing the schedule and the new brochure, and discussing the advertising schedule. The committee will get input on the planned activities, review shirts and pin designs and anything else that comes up. Marge says she hopes to see you there. Committee members include Lanis Aultz, Ronda Rhodes
The last meeting of the Weippe City Council included these items:
Animal Control--Ed Berreth received report of a neighbor’s dog attacking a small dog. The reporting party signed a complaint through the sheriff's office and a citation was issued.
Edmonson and Mayor Steadman have been busy keeping our streets plowed.
A concerned citizen has requested something be done about the intersection of Pierce Ave and Cemetery Rd. The view from vehicles entering the city from Cemetery Rd is obstructed by trees lining private property on the corner. She requested installation of a stop sign on Pierce Ave requiring traffic to stop prior to proceeding east on Mussselshell Rd or north on Cemetery Rd. The property owners will be contacted regarding removal of the trees. If an agreement can be reached, a stop sign may not be necessary. If not, the council agreed to install a sign.
Notice to all dog owners: If you have not yet purchased your dog license, please do so immediately. Citations will now be issued for failure to license your dog. You can do so at City Hall from 9 to 1 weekdays. If the dog is spayed or neutered license fee is $6, $10 if intact.
Denise London submitted her resignation as Gem Committee chairman.

A huge thank you to Norm (otherwise known as Mayor) Steadman. He has spent countless days and weekends plowing snow. Then, when the darn stuff melts, he shovels shush. He and his neighbor, Jim Lalonde, also shoveled around all the fire hydrants and placed markers on them so they could be seen in the deep snow. A mayor in a small town has many and varied duties, all of them volunteer. We appreciate Norm’s efforts and all he does for the community.
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Weippe Public Library has been hosting a week-long celebration this week. “Our goal for the week is to encourage young readers by presenting every child with a new book,” said Youth Services Librarian Eva Griffin. “We’ll serve refreshments on Friday, the 29th, from 10 am to 2 pm.”
Friends of the Library and Discovery Center are seeking donations of animal hides, skulls, paws, feet, etc. for the downstairs wildlife display. Teen hunting photos are still being accepted for display.
GED instruction hours for Weippe are Mondays and Fridays 10 to 3 and will be in the Discovery Center. Drop in during these times, or call 476-5731.
