Bald Mtn has plenty of snow, friendly faces and reasonable prices for the
whole family to come out and play. A FREE bus runs Saturday, Sunday and holidays
from Orofino. A bus also leaves Weippe at Mary Ann's at 8:15 and Pierce Hardware
at 8:30.
Recreation trail maps including snowmobile trails are available at the Outback and the Timber Inn.
There is 125" of snow on Hemlock and 106" on Shanghai.
The Lion's club had a successful breakfast over the Winter Carnival and would like to thank the snowmobile club for involving us. We were a little concerned on how it would turn out after we got there that morning to discover the snow had slid and taken the exhaust to our furnace with it. Fortunately everyone was dressed warm for the ride, so it worked out.
Mark your calendars for the next fund raiser. It will be a spaghetti feed on March 8th. The club meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month 7 p.m. at the clubhouse. Visitors as well as new members are welcome!
Congratulations to the boys AAU team, they placed 2nd at the tournaments in Orofino this past wee end. They had to play numerous teams and the last game was very close. I know it doesn’t seem possible since there is still so much snow here, but it’s time to start making plans for this year’s town celebration. This is a plea for more people to get involved. There were a few new people last year that joined in and it definitely made a difference in the quality of the celebration and also lifted a burden from those who have held it together the previous years.
A new chairman is needed as I do not plan to retain that office this year. I am willing to work on the program as I have in the past but feel I have lost the zest to want to head up the celebration again this year. Give me a call or call Rob at 464-2736.
Village of Pierce
June 1st, 1936 minutes from the Board of Trustees of the Village of Pierce.
All members of said board
were present. Minutes of previous meeting was read and approved.
The following bills were read by the Clerk and considered by the board and
upon motion by Trustee Snyder and seconded by Trustee Ruark were ordered paid.
Joe Oman (labor on streets) $10.00, Western Union (telegraph) $2.10, Marshall’s Grocery Store (supplies $5.61, John Graham & Co. (supplies for clerk & treasurer) $2.71, E.H. Barnes (trials in police court) $28.00, L. Osenton (trials in police court) $2.00, Robert Ruark (hauling rubbish) $9.00, Lee Willoughby (labor to streets) $12.00, Irvin J. Rossiter (marshall salary) $100.00.
The matter of Police Officers for the Village was next brought up for discussion. Irvin J. Rossiter had previously told the Mayor Gisel that he would not serve any longer without help and the Mayor engaged B.F. Gardiner of Orofino to take his place.
After discussion, in which Rossiter and others took part with the board, Rossiter threatened violence to the Village Clerk, asking the board if the clerk was going to run the town. Mayor Gisel responded to the statement previously made by Rossiter, stating he would not serve without help and that he had hired the other Marshall. Trustee Ruark then moved that the Village retain Rossiter and furnish the necessary help. Trustee McCloskey seconded the motion, which carried. Salary of the Marshall was next discussed and it was decided to retain the present rate of $100.00 per month for each man.
The Clerk was instructed to purchase another revolver for the extra policeman - a 38 caliber Colts Special, also handcuffs and 3 extra stars, and a holster for the extra gun.
A herd law for the Village was discussed and Trustee Ruark moved that the Clerk be instructed to have the Village Attorney draw up an Ordinance covering this and present it at the next meeting.
Entire amount of revenue for the fiscal year beginning May 1st, 1936 and ending May 1st, 1937 is $4067.22.
