Hunter Education class March 3-13

   A Hunter Education course will start Monday, March 3 at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Orofino Junior High School. Classes will be held from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and again the following week March 10th–13th with same times.

   A trail walk and range firing will be Saturday, March 15. Any child that is 9½ years of age or older may take the course. It is a state of law that any person born after January 1, 1975 takes and passes the course in order to obtain an Idaho hunting license. There will be a $8 fee per person. All course materials will be furnished.

    The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3296 sponsor the Hunter Education. The VFW Post supplies fifteen .22 caliber rifles for the range and trail walk. The Post also has members that help instruct the course.

   The Hunter Education Program is conducted with an entirely volunteer work force. The statewide average class consists of 21 hours over a three to four week time frame. All program requirements must be fulfilled.

   Attend all classes – no absences.

   Pass a written exam – score 80 or above.

   Complete safely live – practice firing.

   Demonstrate safe firearm handling during field exercises.

   Instructor verification that he would feel safe if hunting with you.
