Fraser enjoys sunny days

By Norma Brand and Cathy Walker

On Monday, Feb. 18, we woke up to another sunny day.  The snow that fell on Friday night amounted to about two inches, it melted quickly when the sun came out.  What a treat it is to enjoy the sunshine again.

The past two and one-half months of cold, snowy weather has been a reminder of what an old fashion winter is like.  The snow was a blessing after a dry summer, but the sunshine is another gift from Mother Nature.

The Fraser Ladies Get Together Club met on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m.  The hostesses Donna Brown and Peggy Ball had the tables decorated for Valentine’s Day.  Everyone enjoyed visiting with Elvita Judd and her daughter, Loretta.  Guests for the day were Wanda Strong and Lydia Johnson.  During the meeting, the list of hostesses was set up through November.

Linda Beard announced that the Fraser Grange has closed.  There will be a meeting on Monday, March 11, to form a new Fraser Community Club that is open to everyone in the area.  Judy Berreth will bring a white elephant gift to the March meeting.  Hostesses for March are Linda Beard and Rosena Aultz.

The hostesses served a potato soup and a ham and bean soup, veggies and dip, crackers and dip, and  for anyone with a sweet tooth, miniature brownies with pink cream cheese frosting and valentine cookies.

Charlotte Bonner enjoyed a visit from her son, Ron, on Wednesday, Feb. 6.  Ron had time to work on some projects around the farm and they enjoyed breakfast at the Timberline Café in Weippe.  Ron returned home to Portland, OR, on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Oreta Stuart reported her husband, Dale, saw their first Robin on Monday, Feb. 11.

Marie Green returned to her home on Green Road on Saturday, Feb. 16.  Her daughter, Wilma Shedd, and her husband, Dick, spent the weekend with her to get her settled in.  Marie’s son, Mike, from Wallace, Idaho, will be spending some time with her.  Wes Stuart stopped by for a visit on Sunday and brought over a wheel chair for her use.  Marie reported she is happy to be home again.  Stop by when you are in the area, Marie enjoys company.

Donna Stickney and Norma Brand attended the P.E.O. Founder’s Day Event on Saturday, Feb. 16.  It was held at the Conference Center at the Lodge on River’s Edge in Orofino.  The Edge Restaurant served a delicious lunch.  This year Chapter CD of Orofino was the hostess chapter and Chapter FN of Pomeroy, WA presented the program.  It was a beautiful day and everyone enjoyed the drive to Orofino.  This is the first time the Founder’s Day Event has been held in Orofino.  It is a pleasure to have the Conference Center available for any special event.

Roseanna Thornton was at the wheel of the Brookside Landing Coach on Saturday, Feb. 16.  She took a number of residents on a tour of the hilltop area. They returned to Orofino by way of Lower Fords Creek Road, and stopped briefly to say hello to Norma and Steve Brand who were at their mailbox when they passed by.  Among the residents in the coach was Lois Brock who had just attended the Founder’s Day Event in Orofino.  It looked like the residents were enjoying the outing.

Norma spoke to Wanda Strong on Monday.  She reported her dad, Bob Gangewer, had a good check up with Dr. Peterson that morning.  Bob is 93 years old, he still enjoys a good cup of coffee, so stop by for a visit and Wanda will give you a cup to enjoy.

The Fraser Community wants to add their thanks to Oreta Stuart for her dedicated efforts on the Clearwater County Fair Board.  Oreta and Millie Lansing retired this year.  The article in the Feb. 14 issue of the Clearwater Tribune had paid tribute to these two ladies.  The article told of their commitment and dedication to our Clearwater County Fair.  Thank them the next time you see them, they are special.

Fraser Boosters 4-H Club held their regular meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Fraser Community Center.  They made Valentine tray favors for the Weippe senior citizens.  Jen from the Clearwater County Extension Office attended.  There were three new members in attendance, Carson Sellers, McKenzie Morris, and Buster Meads.  Buster Meads won the door prize drawing.  The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 12, at 7 p.m.

Reggie and Peggy Ball have laid ceramic tile in the bathrooms and utility room.  Carl Thornton has helped Reggie prepare the wood flooring for installation.  They are making great progress so stop by for a visit you will be impressed.

Guy and Cathy Walker had Scott and Theresa Luna over for dinner on Sunday evening for some of their dutch oven cooking.  They cooked homemade rolls and sweet onion roast of deer carbonnade.

The Fraser Cemetery will hold a regular board meeting on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 6:30 p.m. at Cathy Walker’s house.  If you have any questions, please call Cathy at 435-4814.

Happy Birthdays go out to Izzy Brown on Feb. 23 and Dale Stuart on Feb. 24.
