Maniacs clinch CIL crown

D.J.Wright's driving bucket with 4 seconds left, off a long inbounds pass from Zac Goodrich, boosted the Maniacs to a 51-49 victory over Grangeville in boys' basketball action Feb. 7. Wright scored 35 points as the Maniacs clinched the CIL crown.

The Bulldogs, who trailed by as much as 11 points late in the third period, tied the score on Logan Clark's basket with 8 seconds left in the game.

Orofino's Goodrich then heaved a pass to the other end of the floor to Wright, who out jumped Grangeville defenders near the three-point line. Wright then knifed to the hoop for the winning score.

"They were playing full court man-to-man, and we just got a pick for (Wright) and he went and got the ball," Orofino coach Tony Snyder said.

Orofino will be top seed at the District II tournament, which opens Feb. 13 at Lewiston’s Booth Hall. The Maniacs play Potlatch at 7:30. No. 2 Grangeville opens against Kamiah at 6 p.m.
