Fire destroys one Ahsahka home and garage, damages another
A fire early Tuesday evening destroyed the log home of Judy and Art Henson at 4176 Northfork Drive in Ahsahka, located behind the Ahsahka post office.
The fire also destroyed the Hensons' garage and did damage to one end of a house next door which reportedly belonged to the Hensons' son, Jeff.
According to Orofino Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Lee, Art and Judy were at home at the time of the fire and reported hearing an explosion in the garage. They were inside in the house, along with several other people, and everyone made it out of the house without being injured.
There was no one at home in Jeff’s house. He is reportedly out of town plowing snow for the forest service.
The fire call came in between 4:30 to 5 p.m., according to Lee.
Lee said Tuesday night the fire marshal will be in Ahsahka Wednesday morning to investigate the cause of the fire.
Lee reported five fire departments and 36 firemen responded to the scene. Besides the Orofino Fire Dept., fire departments from Sunnyside, Evergreen, Twin Ridge and Upper Fords responded to the scene.
