Obituaries for February 7, 2008

Grace Faye Danielson, 90, Lewiston

Grace Faye Danielson, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, due to complications of pneumonia at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Lewiston.

Grace Faye was born April 22, 1917 along with her twin sister Ruth Mae at Gainesville, MO to Solomon A. and Nancy B. Morrison. She grew up and attended school in West Plains, MO.

While visiting her twin sister in California she met and married the love of her life, Byron Omar Danielson at South Gate, CA, May 22, 1937. They were married for 65 years.

In her early years she was a doctor’s assistant in Huntington Park, CA, before becoming a devoted mother and homemaker. From 1952 until 1974 Grace and Omar owned and operated an auto salvage and machine shop business in South Gate, CA.

During this time they owned race cars and Grace could always be found in the grandstands keeping stats on “her” car, jokingly decorated “Grace’s New House.” A highlight in Grace’s life is when her new house was actually built and the joy she had in decorating her new home.

Many years were spent with family and friends camping, hunting and fishing in California and Mexico. After many years of hard work and life’s enjoyments they retired in 1974 and moved to Orofino.

Grace and Omar enjoyed traveling and were members of the Fine Gold R.V. Club of Orofino with Gracie being honored as Queen of the “blender”.  Grace and her husband enjoyed fishing and R.V. camping in the northwest, Alaska and Canada. She enjoyed traveling to Rotary International Conferences with her husband.

During the winter months they visited friends and relatives in southern California and camped in their R.V. at Bashford’s Hot Springs.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cabin in the Clearwater National Forest north of Pierce.  Grace knew where all the best huckleberries could be found, and loved to take her grandchildren on the “secret” huckleberry trail.

Her hobbies included ceramics, needlework and reading.  She was a member of the Orofino Women’s Hospital Auxiliary. After the death of her husband she found warmth and enjoyment in the company of her friends at their Comfort Club gatherings.

In 2006 she moved from Orofino to the Royal Plaza Retirement Center in Lewiston.

Grace is survived by three daughters, Sandra Huling and husband Jim of Lewiston, Dulcilee Huling of Kennewick, WA and Elizabeth McConnell and husband Dave of Lewiston; nine grandchildren, Kendell Huling of Kennewick, WA, Jennifer Simental and husband Ted of University Place, WA, Vanessa Vance and husband Mike of West Richland, WA, Jeb Huling and wife Shannon of Los Banos, CA, Robert Schumacher of Moscow, Mitchell Danielson and wife Robyn of Fort Worth, TX, Andy Schumacher of Lewiston, and Zeb Huling of Glendale, CA; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mackenzie, and Ethan Simental, Madison and Alexandria Vance, Jayce Huling and Beck Danielson; brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband; son Byron “Danny” Danielson; son-in-law Gary Huling; sisters Ollie Luna, Verna Wood, Dulcie Cochran and Ruth Patterson; brothers William Morrison, Dewey Morrison, and Jones Morrison.
