Idaho Fish and Game seeks public comments for 2008 big game seasons

By Mike Demick

Proposed changes to the 2008 big game seasons will be the focus of several upcoming public meetings hosted by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG).

Interested individuals can discuss the proposals and provide written comment locally on Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at IDFG Clearwater Hatchery, 4156 Ahsahka Road.

Proposed changes in elk management of the Clearwater Region include reducing hunter opportunity in the Selway Zone to address declining elk numbers. Proposed changes for both deer and elk include providing additional opportunity in several big game management units to respond to increased crop damage on private land.  No changes are proposed for black bear or mountain lion seasons.

The open house format allows participants to come and go during the two-hour period and visit with IDFG personnel about the proposals. Written comments collected will be presented to the Fish and Game Commission prior to their March meeting, where final action will be taken.
