Everet Martin, of the Weippe Heritage Society, received a call from Charles (Chuck) McKinney in Colorado. Chuck attended Weippe High School and went on to become an accountant. Everet says Chuck was 6'3" in high school and "made a pretty good center," He was the son of Short and Mabel McKinney and was one of three children, they lived in the house across the street from the Discovery Center.
Short drove the mail and freight from Greer to Pierce when Greer Grade was a dirt road. He had to use a four horse team to bring freight up the grade. Mabel was a school teacher. Benny Durant's mother Nellie was Mabel McKinny's sister. Chuck told Everet he is sending some photos and other mementos of his family for the museum, and mentioned he is the only family member still living. Everet is a member of the Weippe Heritage Society and will keep us updated on his contacts and what is new in the Museum. The Museum is open Wednesdays.

Eva Griffin, Youth Services Librarian at Weippe Library is taking a class through Idaho Commission for Libraries titled, Teens and Technology. Eva says “they are teaching us about digital natives which is defined as kids that have grown up using digital equipment; i.e., internet, ipods, digital cameras, video games, etc. The first part of the training includes learning how to do blogs, podcasts and how to upgrade libraries in order to appeal to the teen market and make it a place they want to be.”
Eva says the training is based on information obtained from statewide focus groups. She went to Boise for her initial training and will be returning for the second phase of training. All training is funded by Idaho Co0mission for Libraries.
Eva is always looking for items to be used in craft projects. Next time you go to the library ask her what she needs. One hundred and eighty five new books were received during December, in addition to many new movies. Go in and check ‘em out.
The library is still welcoming hunting photos to be displayed on the wall.
