   Joe Pippenger was sworn in as the new mayor of Orofino.

   Fifth and sixth grade Soccer All Stars are Brian Palmer, Darby Donovan, K. C. Brandt, Alex Rivers, Calvin Main, Tawnya Brink, George Korbel, Mayze Daniels, Shawn Trudeson, Tony Johnson, Nathan LeBaron, Caitlin Holzer and Bud Hope.

   Teakean-Cavendish-Cream Ridge - This winter is the first since 1966 that mail couldnít be delivered. Two feet of snow fell over night.

   Eric Johnson, son of Leland and Shirley Johnson, was recently promoted to Corporal. Eric is with the Golf Battery, 3rd Battalion 12th Marine at the Base at 29 Palms, CA.

   Teri Lynn Ploharz, Timberline senior has been selected to serve as page for the 1985 Legislature in Boise.

   Julie Dutro Roby began work this week at Clearwater Communications.

   Bill and Betty Atkinson have purchased the Pit Stop business in Kamiah. Atkinsons are owners of Atkinson Distributing with offices in Kamiah, Orofino and Pierce, and also own the Chevron Station in Orofino.

   Roger Hollibaugh and Scott Calhoun are serving as pages at the Idaho Legislature in Boise. Both boys graduated at the semester from Orofino High School.

   Alex Irby has been elected president of the Clearwater Ski Club. Kenny Coon is vice president, Kathy Stockton secretary and Marie Vanderpool, treasurer.

   Patty Ost and Betty Brown report that there are 22 active Pink Ladies providing volunteer work at Clearwater Valley Hospital.

   Fire loss in Orofino according to reports was only $8050 with the department responding to 87 fires. Rural district outbreaks totaled $96,514 with the Brandt fire most damaging at $45,000.

    Mike McNichols and Bill Shamion asked the city council to correct 10 deficiencies at the city swimming pool for $23,000 that has been budgeted. Shamion said the school district would be interested in a year round pool operation.

   Forest Service timber harvest climbed from 28.5 million to 35.5 million feet last week because of heavier pulp wood sales.

   Mr. and Mrs. Alex Irby are the parents of the first baby of the year, Heather Ann, at Clearwater Valley Hospital.

   Patient population at State Hospital North was 446 with 513 dismissals during the year.

   John D. Loseth was sworn in as probate judge, ending 16 years in the office for veteran Ben H. Bear. Larry Wunderlich succeeded Richard Talbot as coroner.

   Nearly 100 stitches were required to close cuts in John Erbstís arm after a collision with a French door at the Erbst home.

   The city engineer reported that nine new single family dwellings got building permits totaling $86,000 in 1954. Official census for the city has climbed from 1963 to 2706.

60 Years Ago

   Orofino Hospital, completed in 1932 and rated with 25 beds and four bassinets, has been purchased from the Western Hospital Association by Drs. H. T. Hopkins and A. B. Pappenhagen.  It is one of 11 hospitals approved by American College of Surgeons.

   City slot machine licenses yielded $27,772 during 1949. Part of the funds will be used to build a $7000 pumping station in the city park relieving city sewer lines of congestion during high-water period.

   County Commissioners have approved a $2213 item in the new budget to restore the county agentís office in Orofino when manpower is available.
