Visit Elk River where scenery is majestic

Elk River, often called the village of tin roofs, is nestled in a pristine mountain valley once the site of the largest white pine sawmill in the world.

Why the village of tin roofs? Because all the buildings are prepared for the deep winter snows which make the area a snowmobiler and cross-country skier haven.

In the apparently sleepy village of 200 residents one can hear the bark of a coyote at night, the singing of the birds in the morning, smell fresh mountain air and enjoy the quietness of North Idaho's beautiful mountains.

A hike to the spectacular Elk Creek falls and a trip to see Idaho's largest tree (the second largest red cedar tree in the world) makes a visit to Elk River especially memorable.

Elk, deer, bear, and moose are often seen in the mountain meadows and numerous streams teem with trout.

Elk River is a full service town with lodging, food, fuel, shops, museums, snowmobile rentals and much more.
