3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Thursday, until evening, was mostly sunny and pleasant. Today we've had a moment or two of sunshine, but for the most part it has poured rain. The Memorial Day forecast remains dreary, but since the chance of rain is slight on a couple of the days, perhaps we'll get some sun here and there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-Rain drizzles and cooler temperatures have accompanied today's weather - it's not yet safe to put away your jackets for the summer. At the moment it is trying to be sunny outside. Saturday and Sunday look to be a little warmer, but there is still a 40% chance of showers for those days.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today things started out semi-sunny, but it soon became cloudy, and this afternoon the wind gusts hit. They are still going strong, though now the sun is out. The weather forecast for the rest of this week hasn't improved.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 20, 2013

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend included a lot of overcast days, but only a little rain and some occasional sunshine. Today we've had mostly sun. Tomorrow it's supposed to get to about 81, but the rest of the week the highs range from 56 to 69, and there are several mentions of rain. Hopefully the long weekend won't be too waterlogged.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, May 16, 2013

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Some pretty dark clouds have lingered all around Orofino today, but so far, haven't produced any precipitation. They still could! The temperature is in the 60s, but it feels a little warmer, perhaps due to the humidity. The forecast for the rest of the week hasn't really changed, except the chance of showers Saturday is up to 40% (from 30%).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

4:50 p.m. in Orofino-Today has been similar to yesterday - partly to mostly cloudy, some sunshine, and a light breeze. It's rather pleasant out, maybe a touch on the cool side. This kind of weather is supposed to last through this week, with a slight chance of showers here and there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-The hazardous weather did touch Orofino, but it sounds like the worst of it hit farther east. We had brief thunder, a couple brief downpours, and some wind, though it didn't reach 50 mph. Today it's been partly to mostly cloudy. We had sun earlier, but now it's looking more and more overcast. The chance of rain has crept back into the forecast for the rest of the week, with highs ranging from the high 60s to low 70s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 13, 2013

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been a little more "interesting" than we had expected. It started out sunny, but muggy. This afternoon clouds swooped in and it began raining, plus there have been some wind gusts. Nothing super strong yet, but enough to make walking down the street rather lively. The National Weather Forecast issued a hazardous weather warning that includes the Orofino area, Headquarters, and Dent. It mentioned the possibility of thunder, downpours, wind gusts as high as 50 mph, and hail an inch in diameter. It hasn't been that severe, yet, but there are some very dark clouds surrounding the area.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 10, 2013

10:05 a.m. in Orofino-The toasty weather continues! It feels like it may be getting up to 90 degrees this week. Sunday and Monday there is now a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Surprisingly, there is no mention of wind (so far). Early next week the highs have crept up a few degrees, to the mid-70s, but later in the week they're predicted to sneak back down to 70 or so.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-We are into the mid-80s again today, with a nice breeze and plenty of sun! It's toasty, but not so hot you start sweating the instant you set foot outside. The forecast still looks good for the rest of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast is predicting that the weather will stay in the 80s through this week, but beginning Monday, the high will drop to about 70 degrees. Looks like we'll be able to turn off the air conditioners for at least a couple of days! Today, meanwhile, is warm to hot in temperature, sunny, and a bit windy.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 6, 2013

4:45 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was toasty and sunny, with highs in the low 80s. That trend looks to continue all week, though evenings in the middle of the week will bring a slight chance of thunderstorms. It'll be interesting to see whether this sunny weather precedes another bout of rainy weather, or whether we are finally heading into summer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 3, 2013

12:25 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was great in terms of weather. Today it is overcast, contrary to what the forecast predicted earlier this week; and there is a small chance of thunderstorms tonight. The next four days, however, should be even better than Thursday, and Monday and Tuesday the high is expected to be about 80 degrees. Before you know it we'll be lugging out the air conditioners.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

4:32 p.m. in Orofino-The first day of May has been sunny and beautiful, with a light breeze and a high in the mid-sixties. Quite a change from earlier this week. This morning it was a bit chilly, but quickly warmed up. It still looks like we'll get to enjoy similar weather for the rest of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today's another wacky weather day in downtown Orofino. It's colder than it has been in weeks (or feels that way, at any rate), and we've had sun, rain, snow, and wind. It is supposed to be sunny for the rest of the week, though, starting tomorrow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 29, 2013

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Navigating Orofino today is a little tricky, with all the wind gusts and rain showers. The next minute the sun will come out, then it will rain, then a wind gust will whip up some dust and tree blossoms. Saturday was cloudy and it rained that evening. Sunday was a little better. Tomorrow the weather is iffy in terms of how much sun we might get, but later in the week it's supposed to be sunny again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 26, 2013

2:15 p.m. in Orofino-The sunny days keep coming! Today it is well into the 70s, and yesterday was, too. There's a soft breeze and no clouds in the sky, too. The weekend looks great, too, though there's a small chance of rain Sunday night. Things should be perfect for Orofino's community clean-up day tomorrow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

5:13 p.m. in Orofino-We have another beautiful, clear, sunny day on our hands today in downtown Orofino. There's a bit of a breeze, but no chilly wind like there's been the last few and far between sunny days, of late. The forecast is now predicting a small chance of rain here and there this weekend, but for the rest of the week, we're still supposed to get days like today.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather was a bit of a mixed bag. It was colder than expected, and overcast until mid-afternoon. Since mid-afternoon it has been sunny and bright. Not quite the perfect weather indicated by the forecast, but at least it didn't rain. And we've more sunny days to look forward to this week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 22, 2013

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Finally, for this week, we'll get to enjoy the upside of spring-like weather for more than one day! All this week is supposed to be beautiful, and even get into the 70s. Today we still have some wind, but it's not too bad, and at this point is preferable to more rain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 19, 2013

10:20 a.m. in Orofino-Thursday's weather proved to be disappointing. It didn't rain (during the day, at least), but it was overcast and most definitely not like Wednesday. Today it's been raining since early this morning, and rain will probably continue through the weekend. Right now next week's weather looks like it'll be sunny, with highs in the 60s and maybe even 70s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-This morning we woke up to completely clear, blue skies, with not a cloud in sight. It's warmer out, too, and finally feels spring-like again, the brisk wind notwithstanding. Tomorrow we should get to enjoy similar weather.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino's skies have been partly cloudy today, with the sun making several appearances. Cooler temperatures and a chilly wind still made it seem more like early March than mid-April. It still looks like tomorrow and Thursday will be mostly sunny and a little warmer, but after that, more rain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 15, 2013

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday it snowed! Downtown it didn't amount to anything, but it sounds like it stuck in some areas higher up. Rain clouds loomed Sunday, but it never did rain. It was chillier than it has been. Today started out sunny and has slowly faded to overcast. It's in the fifties. This week's forecast, so far, won't inspire any jumping for joy from those who are eager for warm, sunny weather, but you never know. Wednesday and Thursday might see a few hours of sun.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 12, 2013

4:05 p.m. in Orofino-This morning it was beautiful out. This afternoon hasn't been bad, but some pale clouds cover the sky. It's not dark, but nor is it particularly bright. No doubt the rain predicted for tonight is busy gearing up! And the weekend forecast is still dismal if you're hoping for sunshine. Maybe we'll get a bit here and there, like last weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, April 11, 2013

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-This morning we enjoyed some sunshine. By late morning clouds had moved in, and it's getting pretty overcast outside. A mild wind is also blowing. Last night there was a wind storm, though it was far less intense than many of the wind storms we get these days.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-We've had a dark, overcast day in downtown Orofino, with intermittent rain showers that began earlier this afternoon. The sun is currently attempting to peek through the clouds. It probably won't last, but no one will be complaining if it does! Rain is expected for most of this week, but Friday is now saying partly cloudy during the day, with no rain until night.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

3:55 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast was right about today - thought a little chillier than it looks, it's still sunny and beautiful, with mostly clear skies. Showers are pretty likely tomorrow, but the high will be in the 60s, so at least it won't be cold!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 8, 2013

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-There was, as predicted, a great deal of rain this weekend, but we did get a few hours each day that were rain-free. Not necessarily sunny, but at least it wasn't pouring. Today, at the moment, we are actually enjoying a few minutes of sunlight, but it's been dark, windy, and rainy most of the day. The forecast, at present, predicts a break in the rain for tomorrow, with a high of 61 degrees. But it also says rain will return for the rest of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 5, 2013

12:35 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday we actually enjoyed a fair amount of sunshine, but there were dark clouds hovering nearby. Late last night it began to pour rain, and with it came some winds, though they weren't as strong as some gusts we've received. Today it's been pouring off and on, even while the sun was out. It's pouring at the moment! And it looks to continue through the weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

5:25 p.m. in Orofino-Again the morning was a little iffy, but today turned into yet another beautiful day. A lot of residents have remarked that the trees and other plants have all started blossoming, almost overnight. A cherry tree in front of the Pizza Factory is in full bloom at the moment, and is stunning. Unfortunately the forecast is still predicting that rain is "likely" to begin tomorrow, and continue through most of the weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

2:35 p.m. in Orofino-This morning was somewhat overcast, but by lunchtime the clouds had cleared, and it's as beautiful as it was yesterday. Crummy weather still seems poised to return by the end of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 1, 2013

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Easter weekend was absolutely perfect springtime weather, and today is following that trend. We've enjoyed highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Right now the forecast says the rain may return as early as Thursday, but the next two days are supposed to be like today - sunny and clear!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 29, 2013

10:15 p.m. in Orofino-We enjoyed a rain-free day yesterday, though parts of the day were overcast. Today looks to be about the same. But the next few days should be nice and sunny, and the highs are still predicted as being close to 70 degrees.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

4:03 p.m. in Orofino-It's been about 60 degrees today, and sunny up until a bit ago. Now it's getting overcast. The forecast predicts a 30% chance of scattered showers, which probably won't amount to much. For the rest of the week, highs are expected to be in the 60s, with a slight chance of rain. Saturday the high should be near 67, and Sunday, near 71. Sun is still predicted for this weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today it has been beautiful out, despite the 20% chance of rain predicted by the National Weather Service forecast yesterday. The forecast is now saying it'll be cloudy some of the time until the weekend, with a 50% chance of showers. Saturday and Sunday should be sunny, with highs near 70. Since this Sunday is Easter, it would make ideal weather for families who hunt Easter eggs.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 25, 2013

4:05 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday's weather was more of the same wackiness, but Sunday was BEAUTIFUL. Today has been half and half. Until this afternoon it was overcast and somewhat dreary, though it was precipitation free. Now it's as sunny out as it was Sunday. Last week the forecast for the next few days promised sunshine, and had no mention of rain. Now it says there's a chance, albeit slight, of rain. Hopefully the sun will prevail from time to time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 22, 2013

12:35 p.m. in Orofino-Our off-its-rocker weather hasn't let up! We've had snow, downpours, and sunshine, sometimes one after the other. The forecast says we can expect snow this afternoon and possibly tomorrow. On the bright side, the first few days of next week are predicted to be sunny, with highs near 50.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

3:25 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been all over the place. Early this morning it POURED rain. Then it alternated between overcast and sunny. After 2 p.m. strong gusts of wind kicked up and made a mess. Shortly thereafter the power went out in parts of town and as far out as Grangemont, and the downpour returned. Avista Utilities crews are out and about, and a couple of sheriff's office vehicles went racing towards the Upper/Lower Fords Creek junction.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-The sun is out for the afternoon in downtown Orofino, and it's about 50 degrees out. Enjoy it, as tonight there's an 80% chance of rain, and tomorrow there's at least that much chance. After tomorrow it will cool off again, with highs in the 40s instead of 50s. (Or that's what the forecast says now - it could always change!).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 18, 2013

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Our weather this weekend was as unpleasant as predicted, though it was mild compared to what is happening in some other parts of the country. It was several degrees cooler here, and snowed both nights, though the snow didn't stick here in town. Today it's chilly out, too, and some very dark clouds are hovering. We also had heavy gusts of wind Saturday night, and it's been breezy ever since. The weather for the rest of the week doesn't look too cheerful, though this week brings the first week of spring.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 15, 2013

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday it was overcast all day, but never did rain much, if at all. The temperature was nice, too - near 60. Today it's been a little better, with some sunny moments here and there, and it's even warmer out! The National Weather Service issued a statement indicating that a cold front is going to sweep in on Saturday, and last through most of Sunday. There is even a chance of snow showers! It may turn out to be rain here in town. The chance Saturday night is 90 percent, while the chance Sunday is 70 percent.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

6:00 p.m. in Orofino-The weather today has been all over the place. It began very dark and overcast, with some brief drizzle, then became sunny and bright and warm out. Now it's back to overcast. The sun we get each day makes one yearn for more of those beautiful springtime days! With any luck, we'll get some sun tucked in around the rain predicted for the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

4:08 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather hasn't been particularly cheerful, but nor has it been horrible; just overcast and a little breezy. It's looking more and more like we'll get some rain tonight. Dreary weather is still in the forecast for most of this week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 11, 2013

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Our sunny weekend wasn't that sunny! Most of it was overcast, though we did have a few hours of sunshine on Saturday. Sunday evening it rained for a while, and there was a chilly wind. Today's weather has veered between overcast and dark and bright and sunny. The forecast is suggesting it will rain off and on all week. The first day of spring is next week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 8, 2013

1:07 p.m. in Orofino-It's blue skies in Orofino today! There's not a cloud in sight. It's a tad cooler out than you might expect, but it still feels great. We can expect more of the same for this weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, March 7, 2013

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-The dark, overcast afternoon turned into a downpour yesterday. It came and went all evening. Today we're enjoying a partly cloudy, but mostly sunny, day, and the high is probably near 50.  It looks like we can still expect a nice weekend. There might be some fog tomorrow, but other than that, just a few clouds and highs in the 50s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

4:05 p.m. in Orofino-We were teased by less than an hour of sunlight early this afternoon. The rest of the day it's been overcast, and it's getting pretty dark out at the moment. On the bright side, it's warmer than it was yesterday, and the weekend looks like it should be sunny, with highs in the mid-50s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 5, 2013

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-There's a wintery chill in the air today, and for a bit this morning, we had very few and far between snow flurries coming down. The sky has been overcast or close to it for most of the day. The forecast is now predicting about and 80% chance of showers tomorrow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 4, 2013

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-We had some so-so weather this weekend. Saturday night, it began to pour rain, but the real excitement came early Sunday morning, when wind gusts of almost 30 mph whipped throught the area. It didn't seem to cause any power outages in town. Today it's a little cooler out, but in exchange we're enjoying mostly clear skies and a blazing sun. Tomorrow rain starts creeping back into the picture, though the chance (right now) is only about 30%.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 1, 2013

12:45 p.m. in Orofino-Rain poured all day yesterday, accompanied by a brisk breeze. While we haven't had any rain today, it's looking like it'll come by this evening. The forecast is now saying it'll rain most of the weekend. The highs will stay in the 50s, though.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

4:05 p.m. in Orofino-We enjoyed a beautiful morning and most of the afternoon today in Orofino. About half an hour ago rain clouds moved in. Last night it got colder than one might expect. Today, so far, the temperature has been pleasant, though not precisely "warm."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

4:10 p.m. in Orofino-It appears to have rained for a bit last night, but today we have, much to everyone's surprise, enjoyed a fair amount of sunshine. It's neither warm nor freezing out. There is a so-so chance of showers tomorrow, and a greater chance Thursday, but we might get some sun Friday or Saturday. Daylight Saving Time is a week from Sunday. Currently sunset is at about 5:30 p.m. It'll be nice to have it at 6:30 p.m. instead!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, February 25, 2013

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday we had some sun, but by mid-afternoon it was pouring. The rain stopped sometime during the evening. Sunday was much better - lots of sun and no rain. But, Monday morning we awoke to heavy snowfall. It was just enough to terrify the folks who've already removed their snow tires. Hilariously, it's basically gone, and right now the sun is out. This week's forecast mentions rain here and there. The highs will start out in the mid-forties and increase to the upper fifties. Lows will range from the low thirties to low forties.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 22, 2013

12:10 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday afternoon downtown Orofino received rain until evening; and up higher it snowed. The National Weather Service is predicting more precipitation, with a few inches of snow in the higher elevations, from tonight through the weekend. Come back, sunshine - you are sorely missed!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

2:35 p.m. in Orofino-Rain clouds have been looming all day, but so far haven't released any precipitation. We've had a few moments of sunshine. The chance of rain today is only 30%, so who knows! The chance of rain, according to today's forecast, is set to increase, and rain and possible snow showers are likely for the weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

4:10 p.m. in Orofino-Some big, fat snowflakes were falling this morning. Fortunately, they did not stick. It hasn't done much, if anything, since, but it looks like more precipitation could fall this evening. The forecast calls for clouds and rain for the rest of the week, and some fog tomorrow night.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, February 18, 2013

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-We definitely saw some rain this weekend: Saturday night brought a torrential downpour over a few hours. There were some scattered showers Sunday. Before it rained Saturday, it was as beautiful as it had been on Friday - sunny and well into the 50s. Today it's been partly to mostly cloudy. No rain so far, but it looks like it might start at any moment.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 15, 2013

11:10 a.m. in Orofino-We are enjoying a beautiful, sunny day in Orofino. It's always welcome when the forecast is right about sunny days! Unfortunately, it predicts a very likely chance of rain and maybe snow showers tomorrow night, and a high chance of rain on Sunday. If it's right about the next few days, we won't have a sunny day again until Monday.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

2:42 p.m. in Orofino-There are rain clouds about and the forecast calls for precipitation, but so far today all we've had is sunshine alternating with an overcast sky. Right now it's in between the two, so we'll see what happens. It was somewhat windy a couple hours ago, but the wind has since quieted. Friday is still predicted to be sunny. Tomorrow there's a slight chance of rain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-We enjoyed sunshine in the middle of the day today. Before and after it was overcast. The forecast mentions a slight chance of rain tonight, and that showers are likely tomorrow. On the bright side, tomorrow's high will be about 51.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, February 11, 2013

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-This weekened wasn't too bad, and today the weather is gorgeous - sunny and in the mid-forties. Rain may return for the next few days, but at the moment the forecast says Friday's weather will be like today's. We'll see whether that holds true as the week progresses.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 8, 2013

11:38 a.m. in Orofino-Rain rain rain...actually, it hasn't been too bad, but yesterday evening it was chilly and windy, as well as rainy, so the wind sent icy rain right into one's face. Today it's been overcast. The chance of rain today is only 20%, and is about that through the weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

4:50 p.m. in Orofino-We did get a dash of rain early yesterday evening, and another dash early this morning. Rain clouds have loomed all day, but we had a few minutes of sun off and on, and so far it hasn't rained. Similar weather is expected for the rest of the week. Saturday's forecast now mentions a slight chance of rain, and Sunday is supposed to be mostly sunny.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

4:25 p.m. in Orofino-It's been colder out today, and mostly overcast, but we did get a couple hours of sunny skies this afternoon. The forecast still insists it'll rain any moment. The skies are dark, but so far it hasn't done anything. Thursday night there's now a slight chance of snow and/or rain showers, and a small chance of rain until then. Saturday looks to be sunny!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, February 4, 2013

4:05 p.m. in Orofino-Today was beautiful out in the morning - sunny, and the high was at least 50 degrees. It didn't rain over the weekend, and while it wasn't warm, it wasn't freezing out, either. This afternoon it's been overcast, but the temperature is still pleasant (compared with how it has been). The forecast now predicts a slight to moderate chance of rain for the rest of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 1, 2013

12:05 p.m. in Orofino-It looks like this weekend we'll get a break from the rain. We had some yesterday, but also some sunshine. Today it's mostly cloudy, and the sun is fighting to emerge. There's only a 20% chance of rain for this afternoon, so we'll see what happens. We're like to get some fog tonight

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

4:33 p.m. in Orofino-More rain? You guessed it! Last night it rained instead of snow. We did get a bit of very wet snow, and there was even a couple hours of decent weather today. But the forecast claims it'll rain again tomorrow, and possibly tonight.

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-We did get snow last night, but it was pretty wet, and it's been raining off and on today. The streets and sidewalks are everyone's favorite slushy mess. Tonight, according to the National Weather Service, we could get another 2 to 4 inches. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain as well as snow. The weekend, at the moment, looks like it might have some sunshine for us.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 28, 2013

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Today it started out snowing and is now raining. Over the weekend we had some rain, but not nearly as much as it sounded like we would get. Sunday it was even sunny for a few hours. But when we awoke Sunday morning, a thin layer of wet snow had settled. The National Weather Service predicts that the rain will turn back to snow tonight, and leave us with a couple of inches. It also predicts that we'll get another inch or two tomorrow. And that's just here in town. Higher up, it could be as much as 10 inches!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 25, 2013

11:10 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday we enjoyed some sunshine, but today the dreary rain is back, along with more fog. The fog rose above street level earlier this morning. The forecast predicts rain through the weekend, with rain and snow showers possible for Monday.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-The rain has begun! It started about fifteen minutes ago. This morning it was sunny out, but over the day clouds crept over Orofino in preparation of dumping this downpour. It still appears we'll get more of the same for the rest of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-It looks like today is our last blue-sky day for the rest of the week; the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and rain off and on, starting tomorrow. After tonight it'll  be a few degrees warmer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 21, 2013

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-The sunny, clear days have been great, but will be interrupted this week by rain, as early as Tuesday night. The chance of rain Tuesday night is only 30%, so we'll see. Wednesday it goes up to a 70% chance. The rest of the week the chance varies, but the days will be a lot cloudier. The highs are expected to range from the upper 30s to low 40s, with lows in the upper 20s to low 20s. Tonight is the exception - the low will be around 19 degrees.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 18, 2013

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Our sunny, clear weather continues, with the same pattern we've had all week. The days are brisk, but not freezing; once the sun goes down, it's quite cold, particularly last night. But residents are enjoying the sunshine and welcome reprieve from overcast skies dumping rain and snow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

2:25 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's been sunny and clear, and some of the slush and snow is melting away. Now that the sun is out it's not super cold, but once it goes down it should feel pretty chilly. The forecast still says downtown Orofino will be precipitation-free through the rest of this week, though we can expect some fog.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-We haven't received any more precipitation since Monday, and the forecast now says we'll get fog but no precipitation for the rest of the week. The highs will be in the mid-thirties, and lows will be in the twenties. That is assuming it doesn't change again!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 14, 2013

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast claiming this past weekend would be clear and snow-free was quite mistaken! It snowed both days (though not all day long) and snowed all morning and into the afternoon today. The forecast now says it'll be sunny and clear the next couple of days. We shall see!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 11, 2013

12:20 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday we got more snow. It snowed all afternoon and into the evening, but here in town only amounted to less than an inch. Today it's brisk out, but partly sunny so far. There's a slight chance we'll get more snow overnight, but the weekend and probably early next week will be mostly sunny.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

4:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's a murky, cloudy, rainy, dreary day in downtown Orofino. Tomorrow there's a 70% chance it will snow, but it's supposed to amount to less than an inch. We've had a lot of fog the last couple of days, too. Today the temperature was up around 40 degrees.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-The rain picked up again today, along with some fog. As one can imagine, it's a slushy mess! More rain is expected tomorrow. We may get a little snow later in the week, but it probably won't amount to much.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 7, 2013

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino is going to be a slushy mess for the rest of the week. This morning we awoke to snow - not the sort that melts five minutes after it lands, either. It was coming down pretty heavily, and had about two inches built up. At around lunchtime, the snow had transitioned to rain. Roads are perhaps slickest when it snows, then rains right afterwards, and cars could be seen lightly fishtailing down Michigan Avenue. Tonight the whole mess will freeze, and tomorrow we can expect more rain. Snow is predicted for later in the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 4, 2013

3:55 p.m. in Orofino-It was very cold last night, and today's not much warmer. It's been overcast all day, and the clouds look like they may snow on us at any moment. A person on Riverside claimed it was snowing out there, but in downtown Orofino, it isn't (so far). The National Weather Service forecast still has no mention of snow for today.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, January 3, 2013

2:55 p.m. in Orofino-It's been partly to mostly sunny today, and is supposed to be sunny through Friday. Saturday through Monday there's a small chance of rain. Tuesday and Wednesday's forecasts now say rain is likely. Temperatures will range from the low 40s to the mid-twenties. Tonight the low is supposed to be 22, so bundle up!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-New Year's Day we got a few snow flurries, but nothing stuck. Today it's brisk out, and we've enjoyed partly cloud skies with sunshine for most of the day. The forecast until the weekend is precipitation free. This weekend there's a slight chance of showers - so far only a slight chance, but that could change by tomorrow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 31, 2012

3:03 p.m. in Orofino-Sunday it snowed, and the hills above Orofino got as much as a couple of inches. Here in town the snow was more like flurries, and didn't stick. Today we had a couple hours of sunshine, but it's clouded back up. The temperature is about the same as it has been. So far there's no mention of snow in the upcoming week's forecast.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 28, 2012

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-It did snow yesterday, but it was so wet it didn't stick. We've had murky, overcast skies for most of this week. The forecast claims we could get some sunshine this afternoon. It also says there's a slight chance of snow over the weekend, with highs in the mid-thirties and lows in the low thirties to upper twenties.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-A bit more snow fell last night, but so far no more precipitation today. There's a little snow left on the ground downtown in grassy areas, but the streets are merely wet now. Tonight and tomorrow, the forecast says snow is likely, and tomorrow we may get one or two more inches. Saturday is supposed to be sunny! Last week was the shortest day of the year, so we can look forward to it stayling lighter out a little longer from here on out.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 24, 2012

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's been snowing downtown since this morning, but the snow is so wet that it's barely sticking. The temperature has been right around freezing or slightly below. The National Weather Service predicts an 80 to 90 percent chance that rain and/or snow will continue through Wednesday. We may not get a white Christmas so much as a slushy one. Folks living higher up, such as in Pierce and Weippe, will likely have a very white Christmas this year!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 21, 2012

1:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday and today have both been fairly chilly. Some ominous storm clouds were hanging around yesterday afternoon, but didn't amount to anything in downtown Orofino. Today it is also overcast. The forecast predicts only a 30% chance of rain, so we'll see what happens. This weekend is supposed to be a bit warmer, with maybe some rain, but so far, no mention of snow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Last night or early this morning we got barely a smattering of snow in Orofino - just enough to leave white sprinkles here and there. It feels fairly cold out, in part because of the chilly wind, but it's been at least in the 30s all day. A huge snowstorm is supposed to pass over this area, but according to the forecast, if we are even hit with snow, it'll be no more than half an inch.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-It dipped below freezing last night, and today an on again, off again breeze has made it seem colder than it is. Tonight and tomorrow there's a 40-50% chance of snow. IF it snows, the forecast says it will be less than an inch. After that, the forecast predicts rain through the end of the week. Earlier today we did enjoy some sunshine. The shortest day of the year is at the end of this week; after that, we can look forward to it staying light outside longer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 17, 2012

4:20 p.m. in Orofino-In downtown Orofino we haven't received any snow since the weekend before last, but the next few days there is a 50% or so chance of snow. A winter storm is set to pass through parts of Idaho and Montana tonight, but it sounds like the worst of it will miss Orofino. We have had some almost balmy wind today, but no precipitation since this morning.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 14, 2012

1:30 p.m. in Orofino-We had some sunshine this morning, but it's clouding up at the moment. There's a 50% chance of rain and snow showers for later today, and rain is expected all weekend. Yesterday was much the same - cloudy and cold, but not super freezing.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

3:55 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast hasn't changed much - still a small chance of snow and a likelihood of rain. Today it's been pretty murky out, with dark clouds hovering, but hasn't yet done much raining. It's staying above freezing, for now, even at night, though just barely.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

6:00 p.m. in Orofino-According to the latest version of the National Weather Service forecast, the chance of more snow in Orofino this week has significantly decreased, though is not gone entirely. The snow level has raised a couple hundred feet or more, and snow isn't mentioned until the weekend. We will get rain, off and on, for the rest of the week. Temperatures will stay in low 40s/low 30s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 10, 2012

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday was cold, and Sunday night saw downtown Orofino's first significant snowfall of the winter, which wasn't much. It was pretty wet, heavy snow, and as of today at this time the majority of it is gone. Les Schwab had a decent herd of motorists scrambling to get their snow tires on today. The forecast for the rest of the week calls for highs of about 40 and lows at or slightly below freezing. Snow showers are mentioned a time or two, with a snow level at 1100 feet and 1200 feet some days, so we may get more later this week, but it might end up being mixed with rain and not amount to much.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 7, 2012

2:10 p.m. in Orofino-It has continued to rain in Orofino today, and is snowing in the hilltop communities. This dreary weather is expected to continue through the weekend, but tomorrow (Saturday) it may be snow, as the temperature will be noticeably colder. The forecast still claims little to snow accumulation. Sunday night it said less than an inch of snow accumulation is possible, but it also predicts snow mixed with rain. Higher up, there's a winter weather advisory in effect, which predicts 2 to 5 inches of new snow in Elk River, Pierce, and on the Greer Grade. The Camas Prairie is also mentioned.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 6, 2012

4:10 p.m. in Orofino-And the crummy weather is back! Folks in the Pierce and Weippe area have reported receiving snow today. In Orofino, it's not quite cold enough for snow that sticks, and the snow that is falling is so wet it's more akin to rain. Tomorrow we're to expect more rain. We may get some snow showers this weekend, but again, for downtown, it's not expected to stick.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

3:38 p.m. in Orofino-We did get a fair amount of sunshine today, and so far no rain, though some pretty dark clouds hovered for most of the day. Later this week it is supposed to get quite cold for a couple of days. This weekend there's a slight chance of snow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-No sunshine today - just clouds and plenty of rain. There have been several downpours today, and at the moment it's quite foggy, though the fog is above street level.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 3, 2012

1:40 p.m. in Orofino-Just like this weekend, today is a random mix of sunshine and overcast moments. It hasn't rained since early this morning, but it probably will before the day ends. The forecast remains uninteresting (so far) for this week - just more rain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 29, 2012

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-The good news: it's a little warmer. The bad news: it's raining! Not at the moment, but it did last night, and from the look of the sky, it will start up again any moment. The highs and lows for the rest of the week will be a tad warmer like this, but should it change and freeze, the roads will be pretty icy.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

4:40 p.m. in Orofino-The chilliness continues! Early this morning there was quite a blanket of thick fog in Orofino, but it rose up later on. Still no mention of snow in the forecast; just rain. The temperatures are predicted to be about the same as they have been.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

2:38 p.m. in Orofino-It was pretty cold again last night, and the temperature felt lower than what was predicted by the National Weather Service. Today there's a bite to the air. The forecast continues to predict rain for later in the week. Still no mention of snow, at least for downtown.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 26, 2012

3:05 p.m. in Orofino-We did get some rain this weekend, and Sunday night the temperature dropped into the 20s, though the forecast predicted 30. This week highs are supposed to be in the 40s and lows in the 30s, with some rain later in the week. It'll be interesting to see if we get another frost, or if the forecast holds true.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 23, 2012

12:10 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino hasn't received quite as much rain as was originally forecast. Thanksgiving Day was even sunny, but that night it dipped a few degrees below freezing. Today it remains chilly, and right now it's overcast, but the clouds aren't very dark. Nonetheless, the National Weather Forecast predicts rain for tonight through most of the weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-There isn't much new to say about today's weather. It's been overcast and warmer than usual (about 50 degrees for the high), and it rained this afternoon. Last night we did get some heavier wind for a while, but most of that was predicted to hit Grangeville, Whitebird, and Riggins (all south of Orofino). Expect similar weather for the rest of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 19, 2012

2:05 p.m. in Orofino-There was rain this weekend (and wind late on Saturday night), but we did get a little sun. Today it's been overcast, and at the moment the sky is getting so dark it is likely preparing to dump some pretty heavy rainfall. The forecast continues to mention rain instead of snow, with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s, and lows in the upper 30s. Until our lows start staying below freezing, it's unlikely we'll get much snow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 16, 2012

1:25 p.m. in Orofino-This morning was rather murky, but by noon the sun had emerged. It's not quite as bright as it was yesterday, but it's nonetheless and sunny and warmer. The chance of rain is pretty high for Saturday through Monday, but temperatures here in town should remain above freezing.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 15, 2012

2:10 p.m. in Orofino-We're enjoying a welcome reprieve from the rain today - it's been very sunny and slightly warmer since this morning. There's been a lot of fog this week, though Orofino hasn't seen it in town. The chance of rain tomorrow is slight, but it could happen. It's described as "likely" to rain Saturday and especially Sunday.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

5:15 p.m. in Orofino-Rain returns! And you can still expect more over the rest of the week. Still no mention of snow, and the high Saturday may even be in the 50s. It'll be interesting to see what Thanksgiving week's weather prediction ends up being.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-It's another chilly day in Orofino. It hasn't rained (yet), but otherwise, it's been about like yesterday - overcast and dreary, with plenty of mud. The air has a bit of a bite to it. The National Weather Service forecast continues to predict that this week it will not get cold enough to snow, but the rain will resume tonight or tomorrow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 12, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-We had a few wonderful minutes of sunshine this weekend, but today has been nonstop rain, and it's quite brisk out. The forecast, at the moment, predicts rain all week, save Thursday. The highs will be in the 40s, the lows in the mid to upper thirties, so it doesn't look like we'll get snow that'll stick. Higher up there may be some. And this all may change by the end of the week, as the forecast fluctuates every day.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 9, 2012

11:42 a.m. in Orofino-It hasn't rained much today, but it remains dark, cold, and cloudy. Rain showers are expected to kick in tonight and tomorrow, with the potential for some snow, but the forecast still insists the snow will not stick. A Weippe resident reported that it's snowing there. The forecast for Weippe says about an inch of snow may accumulate today.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thurdsday, November 8, 2012

4:45 p.m. in Orofino-It has been raining since this morning, and is currently showing no signs of stopping. We probably will not feel as much impact from the winter storm as many of the areas hit, but it's still probably going to freeze at night from here on out. With all the rain, there'll be plenty of ice, so be mindful of it when driving!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

3:25 p.m. in Orofino-It rained last night, and some this morning. If it had been colder out, we probably would have seen a bit of snow. There is a definite bite to the air today! The National Weather Service is predicting a winter storm to hammer western Montana and parts of north central Idaho tomorrow and Friday. Orofino probably will not see much, if any, snow accumulation, but it will dip below freezing, so we may get plenty of ice.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

5:10 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather was much like yesterday's - a high near 60, and no rain, and even a little sun. Enjoy it while you can - this weekend will be a lot colder!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 5, 2012

4:12 p.m. in Orofino-Hopefully Orofino residents enjoyed today's high of about 60, because a cold front is headed our way. As we head into the weekend the highs will plummet to the mid-thirties. Here's what the National Weather Service has to say about it: "Significant winter weather impacts will begin Wednesday of this week. The initial front on Wednesday will have relatively high snow levels and mainly get the area wet. Sometime Thursday, probably late afternoon or evening, an arctic front will impact northwest Montana causing wet areas to freeze quickly. Snow levels will fall quickly with snow reaching the valleys and easterly winds will increase as very cold air penetrates the northern Rockies. Expected impacts include rapid freezing of any wet surfaces sometime Thursday and snow and blowing snow over area passes, such as Marias Lookout, Lolo, and Lost Trail passes. Homestake pass and Butte also have the potential for a lot of rain turning to snow with this event. Kalispell will have strong winds and single digit wind chills Friday morning with Glacier National Park and Marias pass experiencing below zero wind chills." While this forecast talks of Montana, it is going to affect Orofino too, to some degree.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 2, 2012

10:20 a.m. in Orofino-Trick or Treat Rocking the Streets was well-attended and rain-free. It was fortunate the event was on Wednesday, as Thursday it poured rain in the afternoon and evening. Also in the afternoon were some moderately strong wind gusts, which whipped up little tornadoes of leaves and deposted some of them in nice, neat rows in the middle of Michigan Avenue. Today there are plenty of rain clouds, but it's also partly sunny, so we may get another mixed day weather-wise. This weekend is Daylight Saving Time - remember to set your clocks back one hour when you go to bed Saturday night.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

4:35 p.m. in Orofino-The weather for Halloween Day has been free of rain, in spite of looming clouds. Hopefully the same will be true of this evening. Local merchants have been setting up on Johnson Avenue all afternoon, and at 5:00 Trick or Treat Rocking the Streets officially begins. If the rain stays away, it should be a pretty fun event!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

2:40 p.m. in Orofino-Today has been less off the all than yesterday in terms of wildly fluctating between sunny and pouring rain. Otherwise, it's similar - in the 60s, overcast, some rain, and not long ago we had a couple minutes of sunshine. Expect similar weather for the rest of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, October 29, 2012

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-Rain and more rain here in Orofino, but at least we're not in a hurricane's path. Today our weather has veered from sunny and partly cloudy to dark and pouring rain. It's not too cool out, though, and later this week the high is supposed to reach 67 degrees!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, October 26, 2012

12:15 p.m. in Orofino-Wednesday's reprieve from the rain and cold didn't last, although it still hasn't been quite as cold as Monday and Tuesday were. Yesterday it poured rain off and on. Today it's a bit breezy, and though it hasn't done much raining (yet), the rain clouds have us surrounded. Rain is expected through the weekend. The temperatures will creep up into the high 50s, so at least it won't be TOO cold.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today, though still not "warm," was noticeably warmer than Monday and Tuesday. Clouds have lingered, but it didn't rain and was even partly sunny. There's a light breeze at the moment, and the sun is about to go down. Daylight Saving Time is next weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-It looks like rain is in the forecast for the rest of the week, and the highs will creep down into the upper 40s instead of the 50s. Still no mention of snow for Orofino specifically, but Weippe residents reported snow this morning. And in Orofino it has poured rain almost non-stop, all day long.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, October 22, 2012

5:15 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was nice, and the temperature was pleasant - today it's freezing and rainy! The weather forecast says it will rain rather than snow, but our lows are now consistently in the range where we could get snow. Still, if the highs go back into the 50s, it's pretty unlikely to snow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, October 19, 2012

11:32 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was a beautiful day; today it's rainy and fairly dreary. If you subscribe to our online paper, check out Online Only News (Oct. 19) for a report on what we might expect for winter weather this year. In short, it MAY be dryer and warmer, but the NOAA is hestitant to say for sure, due to a number of factors, including El Niño's behavior.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

5:40 p.m. in Orofino-It was partly cloudy today, but we also enjoyed plenty of sunshine and pleasant daytime temperatures. It did not rain, though more is expected as early as Thursday night. Lows will drop into the 30s at the end of this week, too.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-If you live in the Clearwater or Lewis Clark valleys, you'll undoubtedly be aware of the strong gusts of wind whipping through the area since early this morning. A few tree branches have broken, and garbage cans went rolling down many a street. There's still wind at the moment, but the strong gusts have backed off (for now). They may return this evening. The temperature would be fairly pleasant if not for the cool wind.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, October 15, 2012

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-We have rain! Everyone will be griping about it before too long, but it has been refreshing compared with smoke. We'll have some partly sunny days later this week. Tonight the National Weather Service predicts some heavy rainfall, and after midnight we may get some thunder. The low will be about 55 degrees.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, October 12, 2012

1:35 p.m. in Orofino-Whereas yesterday felt warmer, today there was quite a drop in temperature. It is also more smoky out, and from what little can be seen through the smoke, it may also be overcast. Starting as early as tonight, we can expect to be pelted with rain through the weekend and possibly into next week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, October 11, 2012

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today feels like the warmest day of the week, so far. Enjoy these sunny (if cool days); the National Weather Service says, beginning this weekend, a major weather change is coming. Until then, current smoke advisories and burn bans will likely remain in effect.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesdsay, October 10, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-It's somewhat smoky out here, yet again, though nowhere near as smoky as it was earlier this summer. Today it smelled like autumn outside. At the moment it's almost warm, but that never lasts long this time of year!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

5:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today was another mild, sunny day. We finally have a mention of rain in the weather forecast; Saturday and Sunday the presence of precipitation is described as "likely." Highs this week will be in the 60s and 70s, and lows will be in the low 40s and high 30s.

4:45 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday was borderline warm during the day. It's remained sunny, but gets cooler and cooler out. We also had smoke all weekend and again today - not as thick as Fair Days Saturday, but thick enough you could smell it indoors.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, October 5, 2012

1:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's very sunny out today, but's definitely not "warm." The nights are down into the 30s lately. It'll start raining one of these days, but so far there's no mention in the forecast.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Wind from yesterday lasted into the night, but today is merely a faint breeze. And while it's noticeably cooler out today, it remains sunny and beautiful; the kind of day you hate to spend indoors.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The beautiful weather continues. We did got a somewhat strong wind today, and if the wind is regional it may have a negative effect on the wildfires, which are slowly coming under control. Enjoy this perfect weather while you can - beginning late this week the temperature will start dropping.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, October 1, 2012

4:40 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was pretty nice, and today is beautiful out, too. There is smoke, but it's not too thick. The temperature is going to drop significantly later this week, with highs dropping into the 60s and lows down to the 30s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, September 28, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-The nice weather - warm but not hot - remains tempered by smoke. The Nez Perce Tribe yesterday re-instated their air quality advisory and burn ban. It's in effect at least through today, and possibly through the weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Today is warmer still, almost bordering on toasty. There's a great light breeze, and it's sunny with no smoke.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

4:10 p.m. in Orofino-It was a little warmer today, and mostly sunny rather than mostly overcast. There's a faint haze of smoke against the hillsides. The Nez Perce Tribe has lifted the burn ban and air quality advisory, for now.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, September 24, 2012

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was mostly overcast, but it didn't rain. It hasn't rained so far today, either. We may get some this weekend, but until Friday, at least, it should stay dry. The wildfire smoke has backed way off. Today there is barely any.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, September 21, 2012

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today's smoke is officially the worst we've had this fire season. It surpasses even the Saturday of the county fair, Sept. 15.

10:40 a.m. in Orofino-The smoke isn't even letting up in the mornings the last couple of days. Yesterday it was warmer out, maybe in the high 80s. Today it's been overcast. There's still no mention of rain in the forecast for this week. It's to the point that many would rather have rain than all the smoke, and most certainly the wildfires.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-It is, overall, a little cooler today, but still nice out (as always, ignoring the smoke). The smoke's pattern this week has been to drift in late morning or early afternoon and drift away by evening. C-PTPA still has the fire danger level listed as high. Permits for outdoor debris burning, including burn barrels, are not currently being issued, and are illegal. Stage I Fire Restrictions as per Idaho Code 38-115 are in effect. These restrict campfires and smoking in forested areas to approved safe locations only.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-The smoke is worse today than it was yesterday. It was once again clear in the morning, but it's drifted in. Still not as bad as fair weekend, but bad enough. The temperature is in the 80s, and it's sunny and bright out. The National Weather Service forecast doesn't mention rain for the rest of the week; it does mention smoke every day, though.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, September 17, 2012

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday's smoke was the worst of the weekend. Sunday there was over half again as much. This morning it was clear, but a little has drifted in since then. Otherwise it is beautiful - sunny and clear, and warm but not uncomfortably hot.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, September 14, 2012

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Unfortunately, the smoke hasn't let up one bit. Last night was another cold one, and today is cooler, too, so far. It even seems overcast, though with all the smoke it's hard to be sure. In spite of the smoke, attendance wasn't lacking at the fair yesterday.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, September 13, 2012

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-On the first day of the Clearwater County Fair, the temperature is pleasant, but the wildfire smoke is decidely not. It's so thick it once again looks more like fog. It's expected to remain this thick until at least tomorrow morning. Hopefully it won't continue all weekend. Outside at the moment, food, clothing, and craft vendors are setting up on two blocks of College Avenue, which have been blocked off by the city for this exact purpose.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Last night it got down as low as 40 degrees, but today it's nice and warm again. The nights are supposted to warm up some beginning tomorrow, but they still won't be THAT warm. We had some smoke again today - it's so frequently smoky here it's becoming as common to say that as to say, we got some rain today. Fair weekend's weather is, thus far, predicted to be perfect!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

11:15 a.m. in Orofino-We had a windy, smoky weekend. It was also very sunny and beautiful out, excluding all the smoke! It was nearly as thick as it was a couple weekends ago, to the point it seemed more like fog. There was a thunderstorm Saturday night, and it rained for a couple of minutes (enough to make everyone's automobile aboslutely filthy). The nights are getting pretty cool, but the days remain fairly warm, with highs in the upper 80s. Yesterday it was overcast for a while, but didn't rain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, September 7, 2012

12:45 p.m. in Orofino-Smoke is back at the moment, but like the last several days, it is otherwise perfect out. Even with it getting dark so much sooner, you couldn't ask for better weather.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, September 6, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-It gets pretty dark by 7:30 these days, and by 8:00 is almost full-on darkness. Today it's a little bit hotter out, though still not the baking summer heat we had until the last couple of weeks. Fire danger remains extremely high, as there hasn't been precipitation. The McGuire Complex fire by Dixie, Idaho is only 5% contained, and there is another fire near Powell, Idaho, that is close to Highway 12.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

5:35 p.m. in Orofino-If not for the light smoke hovering over Orofino, today would be another perfect September day. The smoke isn't nearly as thick as it has been some days, so it really doesn't do much to mar today's otherwise beautiful weather. Great weather is, so far, expected through the weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-Labor Day weekend was beautiful, warm, and smoke-free. It was rather windy for part of Monday. Today is also warm and beautiful, but we did have some smoke earlier this afternoon. It seems to have disappeared, for now.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 31, 2012

12:10 p.m. in Orofino-Our smokeless day was a fluke; the smell of it came back later Wednesday, and smoke has settled into the valley off and on since then. Right now it's pretty hazy, though still not as bad as this past Sunday. The temperature has been noticeably cooler, but very pleasant. Highs have been in the 80s. At 10 a.m. this morning, the AmericanWest Bank sign said it was only 61 degrees. The weather for Labor Day should be beautiful, ignoring the presence of smoke, but it's very dry out and there are numerous fire resctrictions in place.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-The smoke has finally cleared. The sky is blue, the sun is bright, and the breeze feels great. It's cooler today, maybe in the low 80s. If you like the sun without the high temperatures, you're probably loving Orofino's weather today.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Today's bordering on hot, but it's still not unbearable. It is again smoky and windy, though the smoke presence is nothing like it was Sunday. The rest of the week the highs are predicted to be in the 80s. Tonight there's a tiny chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, August 27, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Smoke smoke smoke! There's been some today, but yesterday it was so smoky you'd have thought Orofino itself was on fire. Last night it rained, which came as quite a surprise. Today it's pretty nice out - warm, but not scalding.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 24, 2012

12:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was great out - it was very warm, but not hot, with a nice breeze and plenty of sun. Today and this weekend look to be the same. Some folks are wondering whether this could be a sign summer is just beginning to wind down. It feels like summer has just started!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

4:10 p.m. in Orofino-Lightning strikes supposedly hit in this area yesterday, but they weren't obvious from downtown Orofino. Today it's clear, hot, and windy, as it has been for most of the last few weeks.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

4:10 p.m. in Orofino-So far, not much has happened with regard to the severe storm warning, which claimed lightning, hail, and even rain could impact the area as early as this afternoon. It's been overcast off and on all day. When it becomes overcast, the temperature feels significantly cooler than it does when the clouds part and the sun blasts us again. There's still wildfire smoke, and it feels close to 100 when it's not overcast.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, August 20, 2012

4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Heat and smoke is the weather theme of late, but later this week there may be more to it. The National Weather Service has issued a severe storm warning, which may kick in as early as tomorrow. It could include hail, rain, and lightning. As always with these warnings, time will tell!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 17, 2012

1:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today's another sunny, smoky day; there's even a light wind. Wildfires are still quite a problem, and these continuing dry, windy conditions aren't conducive to containment. To view updates on wildfires, both locally and nationally, visit inciweb.org. The Steep Corner fire, where 20-year-old Anne Veseth was killed by a falling snag, is 40% contained as of this morning.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Wildfires continue to plague the Pacific Northwest (and many states beyond), and this area is no exception. It's again smoky out, and the Nez Perce Tribe is issuing air quality advisories. Wind and hot temperatures are expected for the rest of the week. This morning it seemed overcast out, but it could have been from all the smoke.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

5:30 p.m. in Orofino-The wildfire smoke has found us - it's been semi-hazy all day. Strangely, it doesn't smell smoky (yet). The air is hot and stagnant out, in spite of the mild breeze. By the time Saturday rolls around we can expect temperatures above 100.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, August 13, 2012

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-The summer sun keeps on roasting Orofino! Wildfires are really taking off, too. So far not much smoke is lingering over Orofino, which is a bit of a surprise. The rest of the week, highs are predicted to be in the 90s, with lows high 50s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 10, 2012

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-In spite of the sweltering daytime heat, evenings, as the sun goes down, aren't half bad. Today it's pretty toasty again, with a strong breeze. Lightning isn't expected to hit Orofino, but yesterday afternoon it did pelt the Clearwater and Nez Perce national forests, starting 41 fires. More are expected from another lightning storm in the next couple of days.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Almost half of the day has been overcast, and once again, the heat smothers you the instant you set foot outside. There's a hot breeze blowing, too. So far the cloud cover hasn't resulted in rain or lightning.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-It's another sweltering summer day today, with a high of 100 or more. It's been a bit overcast off and on this afternoon, but otherwise sunny and clear. The highs for the rest of the week are predicted to be in the upper 90s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, August 6, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino was roasted over the weekend. Earlier today it was a little cooler out, and quite overcast, but now it's sunny and hot again. The National Weather Service predicted we might get some thunderstorms. Either that's later tonight, or it simply didn't happen. Tomorrow it's supposed to get to 100 degrees.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 3, 2012

11:45 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday ended up being mostly cloudy, though there was no rain or thunder and lightning. Today, at the moment, it's sunny and there's not a cloud in the sky. This weekend is supposed to be hot, with highs at least in the upper 90s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

4:32 p.m. in Orofino-There's not a cloud in the sky, and it's about 91 degrees out right now. There's a warm breeze, too. It's supposed to be even hotter later this week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's another hot, sunny day in Orofino. It's possible the rainy SUMMER days are behind us for the year. No one is ready to talk about rainy autumn days just yet!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, July 30, 2012

3:55 p.m. in Orofino-We had overcast moments over the weekend, but most of the time it was sunny and, while hot, it wasn't unmercifully so. Today is along those same lines, and the rest of the week looks to be that way also. Right now there's zero mention of rain and thunder.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, July 27, 2012

12:51 p.m. in Orofino-Both yesterday and today have been hot and partly overcast. So far there's been no precipitation or thunder and lighting. Highs for the rest of the week are expected to be in the low 90s. There will probably be more overcast days, since the National Weather Service continues to predict a 20% chance of thunderstorms for the next few days.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's a toasty one today, though still not as hot as this past weekend. Tomorrow it's going to be close to 100 degrees. The chance of thunderstorms starts Friday, but it's still such a slight chance that it may not even happen.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

2:40 p.m. in Orofino-Today it is once again sunny and warm, but not too hot. Tomorrow will be a little warmer than today. Now Thursday's forecast says it will get into the upper 90s, but after that should go back down to 90 or so. Friday there's a slight chance of thunderstorms. Lows continue to be in the 50s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, July 23, 2012

4:20 p.m. in Orofino-The severe thunderstorm never did hit us directly; the bits we got Friday were all we felt of it. This weekend was mostly sunny and warm, but not quite as hot as usual. Today it's cooler still - plenty warm, but not a baking heat. Highs for the rest of the week are supposed to be in the upper 80s to low 90s, with lows in the 50s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, July 20, 2012

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today we've had more overcast moments than sunny ones. About half an hour ago it rained for a spell. Earlier there was a few minutes of thunder. Now the sun is back out. Some heavyish wind whipped through for a while, and a breeze is currently rustling the leaves. Some heavy storms have been reported in the Lewiston area. It's unclear whether they will hit Orofino full-bore, or if we've seen the worst of them, though the National Weather Service has us on a severe thunderstorm watch.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

4:40 p.m. in Orofino-It did cloud up last night, though here in Orofino the rain didn't amount to much. At one point, right around sunset, the part of the sky over Riverside was a bright pink, while the clouds in the direction of Grangemont were a deep gray-blue. Today it's been sunny and in the 90s, with a light wind blowing. Thunderstorms are predicted to hit off and on for the rest of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

2:50 p.m. in Orofino-A flash flood warning was issued for our area yesterday, and it was in effect until 11 p.m. In downtown Orofino all we got was some rain. Up higher in the woods, however, it was reported as quite the storm. Trees fell, and the rain hammered down in sheets. Today it's hotter again, and the skies look mostly clear. Despite this, the National Weather Service reports a 50% chance of heavy rain later today.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, July 16, 2012

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-The heavy rain we expected Saturday did not occur until Sunday morning. Since then, the air has been far less humid, and it's been cooler, though still warm out. The National Weather Service says another rainstorm may pelt us Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. There's a light breeze right now, and some cloud cover. Most of it is too light to result in rain or lightning, but there are distant clouds capable of precipitation.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, July 13, 2012

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-It continues to be toasty out in Orofino. It's a little bit hazy out, and it's hard to tell whether it's smoke or merely a light cloud cover. It's also sunny and a bit breezy. There's still about a 60% chance of heavy rain tomorrow, and about a 50% chance tonight.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, July 12, 2012

1:20 p.m. in Orofino-The temperature is in the 90s right now, and by mid-afternoon it'll be close to 100 degrees. It's also muggy out, so it feels like you can't breathe. Tonight and tomorrow there's a tiny chance of thunderstorms AND rain. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service, the chance of heavy rain is 60%. If it does rain, it will at least relieve the lingery mugginess we've experienced all week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

4:23 p.m. in Orofino-It's hot out today, and it's going to be hot out tomorrow. It is, after all, summertime! The forecast still says it will cool off just a few degrees later in the week, and there will continue to be a slight chance of thunderstorms. Right now it's well into the 90s outside, and the sky is clear.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

5:40 p.m. in Orofino-We were hit with a thunderstorm last night, and the amount of dust on some cars suggests it rained, if only briefly. We may get more thunder and lightning tonight. It will back off for Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, but could return for the weekend. Until the weekend, highs will continue to be near 100 degrees, and lows will be in the 60s. It will cool down a hair beginning Sunday, but highs will still be in the 90s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, July 9, 2012

5:10 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was hot and humid, much like today, except today it was overcast all afternoon. Hopefully it will a bit later and relieve some of this humidity; if it doesn't, tomorrow will be extremely muggy, as it is predicted to be near 100 again. The forecast says we're likely to get thunder tonight, but not much rain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, July 6, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-It's a toasty Friday, with a light breeze and very few clouds in sight. There are a lot of people out and about, running errands, or gearing up to travel for the weekend. Enjoy that summer heat...FINALLY!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, July 5, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-It was a beautiful Fourth of July in Orofino, and today is equally beautiful - and hot! It's going to get even hotter over the weekend, and bring with it a slight chance of thunderstorms.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

4:50 p.m. in Orofino-We've had a mix of overcast and sunny today. This afternoon a strong, cool wind kicked in, and it's keeping the Farmers Market vendors on their toes. According to the forecast, the weather is supposed to be sunny for the rest of the week, and get progressively hotter. Saturday and Sunday the highs are predicted to be right around 100.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, July 2, 2012

4:35 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was an interesting mix of stormy and sunny. Saturday it was nice out until evening; then a thunder and lightning storm hit, followed by sheets of rain. Sunday morning started out rainy and overcast, but it cleared by late afternoon and was beautiful through the evening. Today started out sunny and has mostly remained that way, but some clouds have moved in. And it's pretty toasty out! Tonight there's a strong chance of showers. July 4 looks to be perfect, though - sunny, with a high slightly above 80.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, June 29, 2012

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Our sunny until the weekend weather prediction hasn't proven as cut and dry as the forecast made it sound. Wednesday and Thursday were hot and sunny. Today is getting there, but until this afternoon it was overcast and cooler out (i.e. not as hot as yesterday). It's now looking like it may rain Saturday night and some of Sunday, then clear up Monday and Tuesday. If it does rain this weekend, hopefully it won't be much!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Summer weather has returned! It's not scorching hot out, but it's definitely good and warm, with a light breeze. Similar weather should last the rest of the week. This weekend may bring a little inclement weather; it's hard to say for sure.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Looking or stepping outside today, you'd think it was March, not late June. The sun is peeking out of the clouds at the moment, but most of today has been overcast, with downpours off and on. This morning, a few minutes before 4:30, a loud thunder clap startled awake a number of residents. But, hang in there - Wednesday through Friday are supposed to be sunny and warm. Saturday and Sunday there's a very slight chance of some thunder and lightning, and maybe rain. The chance is small, though.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 25, 2012

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was pretty nice. We had some windy moments, and maybe a smattering of nighttime rain (at most), but overall it was warm and mostly sunny. Today the sky is mostly clear and it's good and warm out again, right around 80. Tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service, there is a 100 percent chance of showers. For the rest of the week, it looks to be sunny and clear, with highs ranging from 78 to 88.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, June 22, 2012

11:45 a.m. in Orofino-The dark clouds from this morning have disappeared, leaving a mostly clear blue sky. There's a mild wind, and a few white, wispy clouds here and there. For the most part, today now looks like it'll be just like yesterday. The forecast predicts rain showers tonight.

9:55 a.m. in Orofino-Today may bring some inclement weather, if the sky is any indication. Yesterday was hot and sunny, one of the hottest - if not the hottest, to date - days of the year so far. Today feels like it will get pretty warm, by may bring rain and/or thunderstorms. It also looks and smells like smoke outside. Unfortunately, similar weather is predicted for the weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

2:25 p.m. in Orofino-It's a beautiful summer day, finally! The temperature today will reach about 80, and the sky is bright and blue. Tomorrow expect more of the same, but with a high of about 90. Then get ready for more clouds and perhaps rain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has included a great deal more sunshine that yesterday's, as well as far less rain. The temperature is a little warmer, but not by much. Tomorrow there's no mention of rain, but the end of the week is predicted to bring more, with highs on either side of 80.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 18, 2012

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-The weekend was warm and partly cloudy to sunny. Sunday included some mildly strong winds. Today we have had rain, rain, and more rain, with occasional breaks and a moment or two of sunshine, plus more wind. The temperature is not bad, but the rainy weather makes it seem cooler than it is.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, June 15, 2012

10:20 a.m. in Orofino-It was sunny and nice out yesterday, though it did cloud up in the evening. Today it's beautiful out again, complete with a light breeze. Saturday is supposed to be warm and sunny, with a high near 80. Sunday there's a small chance of rain, also with a high near 80. After that it is forecasted to cool off just a few degrees, and it may rain, but the chance is slight, so it's hard to say.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

2:55 p.m. in Orofino-We had an epic rain and thunderstorm last night - some of the thunder sounded like it was right outside the front door. After the thunder wrapped up, we were pelted with heavy rain. According to reports, Lewiston experienced a touch of the storm, while Grangeville got as much as this area did.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-It rained overnight, then was sunny for a few hours. About half an hour ago we heard thunder and it rained, but now it's getting bright out once again. The sky is definitely not blue right now, so more rain and thunder could be on its way. Tomorrow there's a good chance of rain, but after that we should get a reprieve for a couple of days.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 11, 2012

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-At last, we have consistent sunshine! We also enjoyed some Sunday. Today, the skies are clear and it feels like it's at least in the mid-70s outside. Thre's also a mild breeze. It's definitely the kind of day you'd rather be outside.

10:30 a.m. in Orofino-The rain continues today. Yesterday it backed off for a while, and in the morning it was bright out. Anyone who is sick to death of rain (and who wouldn't be, by now?) will have to endure rain for at least a few more days.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

3:10 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather is overcast and dreary, but it's not as dark out as it was yesterday. It'll undoubtedly rain later on, and the temperature is in the 50s. Idaho Free Fishing Day is Saturday; hopefully it will clear up for that.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

4:20 p.m. in Orofino-That severe storm predicted for yesterday hit in the evening. It belted the area with heavy rain, thunder, and hail larger in diameter than a quarter. Today it's been dark and dreary, chilly, windy, and raining off and on. Right now the forecast, for he rest of the week, predicts more rain, with highs in the 50s and 60s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 4, 2012

4:25 p.m. in Orofino-The weekend was a mixed bag again, but the only significant rain was late Sunday night - a downpour loud enough to wake you from a dead sleep! There were a few hours of sunlight. Today the high is about 80, and it's been partly sunny to mostly cloudy. A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until midnight. The storm could also bring hail and high winds of up to 21 mph. Tomorrow the high is supposed to drop almost 30 degrees, to the low or mid 50s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, June 1, 2012

10:50 a.m. in Orofino-Thursday's partly sunny forecast didn't come true - it rained off and on all day and into the evening. The predicted high temperature was accurate, though. Today looks like it'll be about like yesterday. It's very balmy and humid out. This weekend is forecast to be rainy, too.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-It's been mostly overcast today, but no rain so far. It's also been somewhat warm, with a high close to 80 degrees. There's a light breeze blowing right now. Tomorrow night there's a very small chance of showers, but otherwise it will be partly sunny, with a high near 75 degrees.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

8:45 p.m. in Orofino-The weather over Memorial Day weekend was a mixed bag. A lot of it was overcast and there was some rain. Monday we did enjoy some sunshine. Today was much the same, and the forecast for the rest of the week is along these lines, too. The highs are predicted to get into the upper 70s over the weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 25, 2012

12:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday it got pretty warm - at least into the 70s - and we enjoyed some blazing sun for a while in the afternoon. A ferocious downpour, accompanied by a rainbow, hit at about 5:30, and lasted about 20 minutes before tapering off to a drizzle. Today the weather looks to be similar - alternating between overcast and windy, to sunny and beautiful. It seems likely to rain at some point today.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

2:10 p.m. in Orofino-Last night a heavy downpour blasted Orofino for hours. Today it's been mostly overcast, with moments of sunshine. So far, no rain, though we'll likely get more at some point today.

The National Weather Service issued the following statement about parts of southern Idaho and Montana, for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend:

"An impressive pacific weather system will slowly progress through Lemhi county and western Montana over the Memorial Holiday Weekend. At the same time, cooler Canadian air will be drawn west of the Continental Divide and lower snow levels that high valleys and passes could see light snow accumulations. The intensity of the snow will determine how much snow will stick to the roadways, i.e. light snow will melt, more intense showers could result in slushy accumulations. The Upper low will approach southwest Idaho Friday night into Saturday morning spreading rain and mountain snow over Lemhi county and southwest Montana. By Saturday evening, the upper low will be over western Montana with widespread showers. As cooler Canadian air continues to bank up and push west of the Divide, the passes along the Divide will be plagued with snow. In addition, rain and snow or light snow accumulations are possible in the higher valleys near the Divide. Sunday the upper low will continue to affect western Montana, but moisture shifts across the northwest with Glacier Park potentially seeing upwards of 12 inches of snow over Logan pass. During the day Saturday...the passes of Lemhi county, Lost Trail and McDonald passes should see mainly snow as dominant precipitation type. Accumulations on roadways will be dependent on snow intensity. Georgetown Lake and Phillipsburg may also see light snow accumulations on grass surfaces and other vegetation including trees, with Butte and Anaconda seeing a rain snow mix through the day. Saturday evening/overnight, the focus will shift to Lost trail pass through Georgetown Lake and Butte north to the Swan Valley and southern edge of glacier park. Snow will be the main precipitation type with light accumulations expected. Sunday the main impact will be Glacier Park with snow levels down to 4500 feet, impacting many campgrounds of the park with snow. Confidence is high in a wet and cool holiday weekend and the timing/impacts listed above are what the models are advertising at this time. Continue to monitor the forecast in the coming days for any changes and we will provide an update, should track/timing or impacts change significantly. Please monitor our web site for the latest updates at www.weather.gov/missoula"

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Rain hit early yesterday evening and continued into today. Right now, for the first time today, it's somewhat bright out. The air smells fresh and clean. Rain clouds are still looming, though, and it still looks to be a rainy week. Hopefully things will clear up for the long weekend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 21, 2012

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday was beautiful, but things changed Sunday. It was overcast all day, and sometime in the night it rained. Not much - just enough to dirty your car. This morning it rained for a couple of minutes, and since then it looks like could rain again at any moment (but so far, it hasn't). The forecast, right now, says it's going to be a rainy week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 18, 2012

10:30 a.m. in Orofino-As predicted, it was cooler yesterday, and feels like it will be cooler today; but it's still undeniably warm out. Yesterday it was overcast, off and on, but never did rain. Today there's a light wind, and plenty of sunshine. Saturday should be about like today, and Sunday it will warm up to about 80 degrees.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today is supposed to be the final day of 90 degree weather this week. Starting tomorrow, the high will be around 70, though on Sunday it could go up to 76. There's a very small chance of rain Thursday night, but look for the rest of the week to be precipitation free, and beautiful!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's another toasty one today, with the addition of some afternoon wind. A lot of folks are out and about, taking walks or jogging. The National Weather Service's prediction that it could rain later in the week has changed; now it says it'll be partly to mostly sunny. It does still insist the high will drop to about 70 degrees, beginning Thursday.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 14, 2012

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today feels like the hottest day of the year, so far - it's right around 90 degrees. It warmed up this weekend, but today it's actually hot out, not just "warm." Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be almost as hot, but Thursday it'll cool down some, and it may rain (though the chance of showers is pretty slight).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 11, 2012

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-This Friday has been another beautiful day in May. The temperature is about the same as the last couple of days, and it's breezy out, but so far not the heavier wind from earlier this week. It still looks to be a beautiful weekend!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, May 10, 2012

2:40 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday's wind gusts picked up for a while last night. Today the wind is about like it was yesterday, during the day, except colder. It's sunny and clear out, but the wind makes it feel cooler than it is. A beautiful weekend is expected, and Monday's high is supposed to be in the mid to upper 80s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

5:20 p.m. in Orofino-Overall, today has been perfect, but some lingering, semi-dark clouds have been hovering off and on. They've finally moved in, and its overcast, but at the moment they don't look dark enough to produce precipitation. It's been windy today, too, and some of the gusts are a little strong.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today has been beautiful, and a little warmer than Monday. The forecast still says it will be sunny for the rest of the week, with highs ranging from 61 to 77. Next Monday it may even get into the 80s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 7, 2012

4:10 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday and Sunday were mostly sunny, though both days it was overcast for a little while. Otherwise, it was beautiful. Today it's been mostly sunny, and warmer out, with a high in the upper 70s. The weather forecast predicts sunny weather for the rest of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 4, 2012

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday it rained a lot, usually in a downpour. Today looks to be more like Wednesday - some sunny moments mixed with overcast ones, with little to no rain. Saturday is supposed to feature the largest full moon of the year. And Sunday, look for sunshine and a high of about 65 degrees. Monday is supposed to be sunny, and even warmer, with a high right around 75 degrees.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 2, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Yet again, the weather cannot seem to make up its mind. It poured rain this morning, and since then has been alternating between overcast and mostly sunny. There's a chilly breeze blowing, and the high is just under 60 degrees. Similar weather is still predicted for the rest of the week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 1, 2012

2:35 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has, indeed, been similar to yesterday's, with the noteable exception that it hasn't (yet) rained. There's a 50% chance of scattered showers for today, and rain is likely for the rest of the week. The highs are predicted to be in the 60s (except Saturday, which will be a little cooler), with lows in the 40s.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 30, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was partly cloudy to mostly sunny, until Sunday night, when it rained. We received a lot of rain today, but right now the sun is out. The high today has been near 60, give or take a couple of degrees. When the sun is out, it's quite pleasant. Similar weather is expected for the next couple of days.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 27, 2012

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-How quickly the weather changed! It was predicted, but the difference is nonetheless dramatic. Yesterday and today it is at least 20 degrees cooler out, with rain and bit of wind. The Clearwater River is expected to crest today or tomorrow, but the National Weather Service appears to have lifted their flood watch, for now. (A flood watch means the water could reach flood levels; a flood warning means it mostly likely will.) The forecast predicts rain for the next few days, but the chance is pretty low, so maybe we'll get lucky and the sun will come out again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

6:40 p.m. in Orofino-Today was another hot one, with plenty of sunshine and a high in the 80s. Last night we got thunder, hail, more thunder, and some bursts of pouring rain. Right now there aren't any black clouds looming, so perhaps this evening will be less dramatic.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-Those thunderstorms hit after 11:00 last night, and brought a few minutes of heavy rainfall. It didn't last long, maybe an hour, but the lightning was pretty spectacular. Today we had some sun, but right now clouds are lurking, and we may get rain tonight. It's almost hot out, and a little bit muggy.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 23, 2012

2:40 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday, Sunday, and today have all brought clear blue skies and those above average temperatures predicted by the National Weather Service. The highs have been around 80. It's almost enough to inspire the installation of one's air conditioner. These warmer temperatures are expected to continue until Thursday. Then it should cool off a little (though only to 70 or so). After that, they are predicted to drop below 60. Meanwhile, there's a 50% chance of thunderstorms tonight and about that much change of rain tomorrow. Wednesday and Thursday the chance of rain goes up. All this will lead to the possibility of flooding on the Clearwater River, as well as small streams, as early as Thursday.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 20, 2012

11:10 a.m. in Orofino-The National Weather Service just issued a revised assessment of this weekend's weather. The above average warm temperatures are expected to last through Wednesday or Thursday of next week, and will cause enough snow melt to raise streams and creeks. That alone isn't expected to cause flooding (though it will bring everything much nearer to flood strage), but if there is also significant rainfall, flooding could become likely. They are not, at this time, "confident" it will rain much during this warm period.

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday's weather, for the most part, was sunny, warm, and absolutely beautiful. It did cloud up in the early evening. Today those clouds are still here, and it's windy and a little cooler. It also looks like it'll be raining off and on. Saturday's weather is supposed to be great. Sunday there's a slight chance of rain, and that slight chance continues into next week, in spite of the National Weather Service's earlier prediction that a dry trend will still be going then. It will be interesting to see which prediction holds true!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-One would think today's weather was on a timer. When the first part of the Clearwater River leg of the jet boat races kicked off at 10:00 this morning, rain clouds moved in and it poured. An hour later the clouds moved away and the sun blazed...until 2:00 rolled around, which was when the jet boats left Lewiston to return to Ahsahka. Then the clouds roared right back and the downpour resumed. Again, only for an hour or so. Then, out came the sun! Right now it's in between the two - not raining, but not terribly sunny, either.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

1:15 p.m. in Orofino-So far today it's been perfect: sunny, pleasantly warm, and a bit breezy. The National Weather Service just issued a statement professing confidence in a warm, dry trend beginning across the Northern Rockies on Saturday, and continuing into next week. High temperatures could go into the 70s, and mild overnight temperatures are expected. All this could promote a period of increased snow melt. No mainstem river flooding is anticipated, but small streams and creeks could see high running water levels.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 16, 2012

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-We had a beautiful spring weekend, and this morning it was wonderful until about 10:00 a.m. Then, it clouded up, and a bit over an hour later it began to pour. It hasn't stopped since it started. Hopefully the day the jet boat races pass through here will be a little warmer and drier.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, April 12, 2012

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Rain did finally hit last night. Today we've had a mix of overcast and sunny, with overcast eventually winning out. It was chilly this morning, but by noon it was pleasantly warm. More rain is expected.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Earlier today it was difficult to believe the weather predicition for tonight: rain and more rain. Right now, though, look outside and you'll believe it. Regardless of tonight's rain, today was another beautiful spring day, and no jacket was needed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, Apri 10, 2012

4:35 p.m. in Orofino-Overall today was mostly overcast, but there has been sunshine, and more importantly, the temperature is great. A light breeze has topped off a beautiful spring day.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 9, 2012

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Beautiful weather graced Orofino Saturday, allowing for a perfect Easter egg hunt in the park. Sunday was overcast part of the time, but it cleared up later and was equally beautiful. Today is more of them same. A person hardly needs a jacket. Earlier it was sunny and right now it's overcast, though the clouds are so pale it's unlikely they'll rain.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 6, 2012

1:50 p.m. in Orofino-Thursday was nicer than predicted - we enjoyed plenty of sun, despite the looming rain clouds and chilly wind. Today, so far, it's the same, except no sunshine. Instead, black clouds hover nearby. Right now it sure looks as though it could rain any second, but as always, it's hard to tell for sure!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Rain bordering on snow fell all morning and half the afternoon here in downtown Orofino. It's finally stopped, but outside it's overcast and clouds capable of precipitation continue to loom. Rainy weather is still predicted for the rest of the week.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today hasn't been as warm or sunny as the weather forecast suggested. There's quite a bite in the air, though it's not freezing cold. The forecast is calling for two to five inches of snow above 2,500 feet, beginning as early as tonight. The rest of the week calls for a lot of rain.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 2, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Much of this weekend was overcast (though not all), and it poured for a while Saturday. Today it's been mostly sunny and noticeably warmer out, despite rain clouds hovering in the distance. Tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful, too, but after that the rain may return.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 30, 2012

12:45 p.m. in Orofino-It never really did rain during the day yesterday, but overnight we got hit pretty hard. Right now it is absolutely pouring - the raindrops are fat and heavy, and falling in thick sheets. Perhaps that storm the National Weather Service predicted is on its way in, but time will tell.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, March 29, 2012

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Though it's been overcast and a bit windy all day, it hasn't rained, yet. The temperature is pleasantly cool. It'll be interesting to see whether the National Weather Service's prediction of a rainy weekend comes to pass.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

1:45 p.m. in Orofino-Rain has hammered us for most of today, though right now it's partly sunny. The National Weather Service has clarified its earlier predictions of heavy rainfall hitting the area. They say: “The atmospheric models are still indicating that a plume of warm moist air will be streaming into the Northern Rockies late Thursday through Saturday. This airmass will cause significant rainfall amounts, with locations in parts of north central Idaho into northwest Montana seeing over two inches of rain. The west glacier region will see significant precipitation with  this event...the valleys receiving up to 2 inches of rain and the mountains including Marias Pass getting over 12 inches of snow. The rainfall will cause widespread small stream river rises with some potentially going into flood stage. A few quick reacting mainstem rivers will also see significant rises from this system. Mud/rock slides and ponding of waters are possible during and after the event. Confidence is still very high for the event and the placement is getting better that northern Idaho County up into Clearwater County and the mountains along the Montana/Idaho border should see the heaviest precipitation. Please monitor our web site for the latest updates at www.weather.gov/missoula.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

1:15 p.m. in Orofino-We're enjoying sunshine today. It's windy, but cool out rather than chilly. Last night it poured rain again, just as it did Sunday night. More of the same is expected tonight. Heavy rain is supposed to hit north central Idaho and parts of eastern Montana this Friday in Saturday, causing some ponding and/or minor flooding in streams. Where exactly the heavy rain and flooding will hit is unclear at this time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 26, 2012

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was pretty nice, right up until Sunday night, when a downpour hit and lasted well into Monday morning. Saturday was cloudy, but bright, and Sunday during the day the sun blazed and the temperature is perfect. There haven't been any reports of flooding (so far) in Clearwater County. On the Palouse there are reports of heavy flooding.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 23, 2012

10:15 a.m. in Orofino-Most of Thursday was dreary, but in the middle of the afternoon the clouds began to back off and the sun came out, and stayed out until it went down for the evening. Some people around town had heard reports that today was going to be "nice out," but so far, it's not! Nor does it look promising. It's possible it could clear up later in the day, like it did yesterday.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Snowfall greeted us yet again this morning. In town it was too wet to last in terms of sticking, but reports from higher up, in places like the Cavendish Grade, suggest as much as three inches may have fallen today. In Orofino the snow became rain by late morning. Right now it's backed off, but will likely return any moment.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

1:45 p.m. in Orofino-This morning we awoke to snowfall! It didn't stick here in town, but some did on the hills around us. We've heard reports that it is (or was) sticking in Pierce and Weippe. We have been blasted with heavy, slanted rain for the last couple of hours, and when things cool down tonight it may revert to snow again. The chilly breeze from yesterday is lingering, too. Welcome to spring!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 19, 2012

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino's weekend weather was as predicted - overcast, dreary, rainy. There were also some heavy wind gusts. Today, for the morning and half of the afternoon, it's been sunny out, but it looked warmer than it was. A chilly breeze has been lingering, and now clouds are moving it. There is a slight chance of rain tonight, and an 80 percent change tomorrow. Highs will continue to be on either side of 50, and lows will be in the mid to high 30s.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 16, 2012

11:40 a.m. in Orofino-It's raining, it's pouring! Yesterday it poured off and on all day, and that trend continues today. Expect more of the same this weekend, with highs near 50 and lows right around freezing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

11:50 a.m. in Orofino-Snow again dusted the hills around Orofino this morning, when they could be seen at all through the fog. Right now it is overcast, but the sun is fighting to break through, so it's not super dark out. Rain and more rain is still predicted for this entire week.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

4:20 p.m. in Orofino-What a day it has been. We awoke to heavy gusts of wind and fat drops of snow/rain mix. The wind died down to a chilly breeze, and the snow/rain switched to regular rain and back a number of times. Right now the sun is blazing and the skies are clear. Rainy weather will undoubtedly hit more this week.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 12, 2012

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-It's been overcast and dreary today, but very little to no rainfall. Saturday was a perfect, beautiful, sunny spring day, followed by a Sunday that dumped torrents of rain all afternoon and into the evening. Similar weather is expected to hit off and on all this week.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 9, 2012

11:50 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was beautiful, and so is today; there's not a cloud in the sky at the moment. The weather forecast has changed from earlier in the week, and now predicts that Saturday will be like today, but rain showers are likely to hit on Sunday.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

11:30 a.m. in Orofino-Last night it was freezing. Today, the sun is out, the skies are mostly clear, and it's noticeably warmer out. It should stay like this until the weekend, when rain may return.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

1:55 p.m. in Orofino-Randonmness resumed today. It began sunny, then clouded up and alternately snowed and hailed. A few minutes ago the sun came out again. It's been breezy today, a holdover from last night, when we endured some fairly strong wind gusts. Starting tomorrow it's supposed to become sunny and mostly clear, and gradually warm up into the sixties.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 5, 2012

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-We finally got some comparatively stable weather over the weekend, and today. This weekend included some sunshine, especially on Sunday. Perhaps it was to allow us to brace for the next onslaught, which could start tonight. Today it's overcast. So far, no precipitation, but the forecast calls for some tonight.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 2, 2012

11:45 a.m. in Orofino-Wacky weather continues to pummel Orofino. Yesterday was the same bizarre fluctation between rain, hail, snow, and sun, that we've experienced all week. This morning we had some very minor flurries. Once those stopped, it's simply been overcast.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather was a little more bearable and a lot less dramatic than this weekend's. It's been sunny and precipitation free, and while chilly, it's warmer than it was yesterday. Unfortunately, starting tonight, it's downhill again. Rain and even snow are predicted tonight and Wednesday.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, February 27, 2012

3:23 p.m. in Orofino-Snow hit this weekend, as predicted. In downtown Orofino, while it was quite heavy, it was also too wet to stick. The tops of the surrounding valleys are white, though, and there have been reports higher up of 10 new inches. More snow is predicted for this week. On the bright side (no pun intended), we've had sunlight since late morning.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 24, 2012

10:45 a.m. in Orofino-So far, it seems today's weather will be similar to the rest of the weeks, except less dramatic. It is once again warmer out, and overcast, with a bit of sun peeking through. So far it hasn't rained. Right now the clouds aren't dark enough to precipitate, though that could change later in the day. And just when you think we've seen the last snowfall of this winter, the weather forecast predicts more. This time it's Saturday night through Monday. The chance ranges from 50 percent to 30 percent. With lows slightly below freezing and highs right around 40, it could happen.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has something for everyone. Wind gusts! Downpours! Black clouds! Dreariness! Even sunlight (fleeting, but it hits here and there)! The temperature isn't bad, either. Orofino Creek is muddy, and its roar can be heard from several yards away. If you're out and about, drive carefully - the wind gusts are strong enough to nudge cars a bit.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-It has rained almost non-stop all day - almost because right now it has backed off. The temperature feels warmer, maybe in the 50s. Tomorrow we may get wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour, as well as more rain.

Monday, February 20, 2012

2:50 p.m. in Orofino-It snowed this morning, as it did Sunday morning. There's certainly a chill in the air, though less so than you might expect. Again, it is very wet snow that doesn't stick for long, if at all. The hilltops of the surrounding valley are still white.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 17, 2012

1:45 p.m. in Orofino-Though overcast, it hasn't been as dreary today as you might expect. There's a breeze, and rain clouds are out and about, but so far there hasn't been precipitation. Clouds and rain are expected through most of the weekend.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been all over the map. This morning it was intense hail, followed by a few minutes rain/snow mix. Then the sun came out. Now it's clouding up again. Higher elevations saw some snow during the night, since the hills above us are whiter than they were yesterday.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

1:10 p.m. in Orofino-While today has been overcast and mostly dreary, at the moment we're enjoying a bit of sunlight that's found its way through the cloud cover. The temperature is brisk, but not chilly.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, February 13, 2012

4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Rain and more rain! It hasn't been a downpour, but it's been present over the last few days. With it comes warmer temperatures, but the dreariness will get old pretty soon, especially since this kind of weather is predicted for the rest of the week.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 10, 2012

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-We did get some rain Thursday, and Friday morning. Today it's mostly cloudy, but at the moment there is sunshine. The chance of rain continues through the weekend. With it will come highs close to 50 and lows in the upper 30s and low 40s.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

5:30 p.m. in Orofino-It was mostly cloudy for part of today (perhaps a taste of that 20-30% chance of evening rain showers we probably won't get); otherwise it was warmer and pleasant out. The pattern of below-freezing nights and warmer days we have experienced all week continues!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Last night was another cold one, but the days continue to be sunny and a little warmer. There's a tiny chance of showers tomorrow night, and the evenings during the weekend, but other than that, weather like today's is expected for the rest of the week.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, February 6, 2012

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Since Saturday we've enjoyed sunny days, though the nights have been cold. Most people are so relieved to have all the sunshine, they're not complaining much about waking up to half an inch of frost.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 3, 2012

10:30 a.m. in Orofino-Today the skies are partly cloudy, and it's quite brisk out, unlike yesterday, when it was sunny and beautiful, and a little warmer. We may yet get some sunshine today, but it doesn't feel as though it'll get much warmer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-The first day of February has been dreary, murky, and rainy. This morning some very, very light snowfall kicked things off, but it soon turned to sprinkling rain, then a downpour that hasn't let up since it began at lunchtime.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Judging by the temperature and look of the sky, today's weather will be similar to yesterday's. This Thursday is Groundhog's Day. Last year the groundhog's prediction of an early spring was way off.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 30, 2012

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-We got some rain last night and early this morning. Today it was a little warmer out, and we enjoyed a few hours of sunshine. Right now it's clouding over again, and it looks like it could rain again tonight. The weather we've had over the last week is what is predicted for the rest of this week. So far there is no mention whatsoever of snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 27, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Cold, mostly clear, and crisp out best describes today's weather. With no cloud cover the temperature is significantly lower, but everyone enjoyed the sunshine. It is still light out at 4:30 p.m., as the days are getting longer now that we're past December 21. The National Weather Service predicts a 70% chance of rain tomorrow, and possibly Sunday night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, January 26, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Earlier today it was partly cloudy, but sunny out. Now clouds have moved in and it may rain. It's again a little warmer out, and most of the snow on roads in town is long gone, though the huge piles of it created by snow plows will likely be there for several weeks.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

5:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday's snow didn't amount to anything, and stopped less than an hour after it began. Today we were supposed to see some freezing rain, but so far it hasn't happened, though it did rain for a while last night. It was a little warmer today, and while clouds lingered we did enjoy some sun in the morning and afternoon.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-It's snowing! Instead of the predicted freezing rain, we are, it seems, going to have to endure more snow. It's been pretty cold out today, and snow clouds have slowly moved in. The flakes are pretty small. It's hard to tell whether this will amount to much, or how long it will last.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 23, 2012

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-It did not rain all through the weekend; nor did it snow Saturday night. Today it's been sunny, with a high close to 40 degrees, and people are loving it. Tomorrow the forecast calls for freezing rain, then "regular" rain on Wednesday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 20, 2012

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Thursday, Jan. 19, it poured rain all day long. Sometime in the night it snowed a few more inches of very wet snow, on top of the 18-24 slushy inches already on the ground.  Today it has rained off and on, and the National Weather Service predicts that freezing rain will hit later. The forecast predicts rain all through the weekend, with a possibility for snow Saturday night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Snow resumed last night and continued through lunchtime today, resulting in another six or so inches of snow. It stopped for about an hour, after the flakes decreased in size to where they seemed more like rain, but it has since picked back up and looks like snow again. The forecast predicts that it will begin raining tonight or tomorrow and continue at least through Friday. In the meantime, all of Clearwater County is blanketed in a foot or more of snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Snow clouds hovered all day, but nothing happened until mid-afternoon. It has since stopped snowing, but the forecast insists a winter storm will hit in the next 24 to 48 hours, with several more inches of snow accumulation possible.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 16, 2012

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-The 5-6 inches of snowfall we received during a winter storm overnight is, by far, the most snow downtown Orofino has received this winter. Saturday night it tried to snow, but only a dab made it. This morning we awoke to light, fast snowflakes pouring down, even after the roads were plowed. Later the sun came out. The forecast says we may get more snow tomorrow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 13, 2012

12:15 p.m. in Orofino-The sunny, cold weather continues to continue! Frost in areas where the sun doesn't hit, or only hits for an hour a day, looks like like snowfall and has yet to melt. There may not be any actual snow, but there's plenty of ice, so be sure to drive safely.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

4:55 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been typical of the last several days - sunny and cold. Last night was particularly chilly, and we awoke to so much frost that at a glance it seemed like snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-A big rainstorm hit overnight, so today, though wetter, has been less chilly. The sun came out for a while this afternoon. The National Weather Service is predicting that a cold front will hit the northwest next week, but is uncertain about whether precipitation will accompany the colder weather.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 9, 2012

3:10 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday night we got the first snow of the year, but it melted by midday Sunday. Otherwise it's been pretty cold and crisp. There's a full moon tonight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 6, 2012

4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today wasn't quite as warm out as yesterday, but it was still pretty nice. We've had a dry spell since about Thanksgiving, and a report e-mailed to us today explained that most of Idaho's snowpacks are below normal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, January 5, 2012

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast called for some rain, but so far none has fallen. Rain clouds have loomed all day. It was warm again, but the strong, brisk wind kept it from being as pleasant out as yesterday was. It's hard to tell whether or not it will rain later tonight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

1:45 p.m. in Orofino-We're being spoiled by the weather today. It's sunny and almost warm, with a high pushing 50 degrees. In sunny areas you almost don't need a heavy coat. Tomorrow the forecast says rain is likely.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Based on the texture of the ice on car windows this morning, it may have rained a little overnight, then froze into a bubbly mess that takes longer to melt. It was pretty brisk out again today, but we did enjoy some sunshine.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 2, 2012

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-The first Monday of 2012 is a cold one, bringing iced over windows and enough frost that a quick glance might fool you into thinking a bit of snow had fallen. The high today was in the low to mid 30s. There is a slight chance of rain tonight and tomorrow, and possibly later in the week. It did not snow in downtown Orofino over the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 30, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Rain returned last night had has continued, off and on, today, with no signs of letting up. Fog us hovering just above us, obscuring most of the surrounding hillsides. The snow level is expected to reach 1,000 feet late tonight. If Orofino is hit, it will probably be with very wet snow. The weekend is supposed to be mostly rain-free. Earlier in the week there was a slight chance of rain Saturday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 29, 2011

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino's weather took a turn for the weird. The rain never really let up yesterday, and in the middle of the night it became shifting torrential downpours, the sort where you could stand outside for eight seconds and get soaked through. Today, even though the forecast insisted it would rain, it has instead been sunny, warm, and just beautiful - it feels like April. With this sort of randomness it is tough to tell what will happen tomorrow! The National Weather Service issued a snow storm alert beginning tomorrow, but the snow level is about 4,000 feet and will move up to 5,500 feet by Saturday. It did mention that valleys below 4,000 feet may see 1-2 inches of snow. These snowstorm warnings have, to date, not affected Orofino.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Rain and fog since early this morning in Orofino today, and the forecast predicts more of the same, at least through Friday. It's a bit warmer out, at least. Most people around here who comment on the weather have said they're just grateful it isn't snowing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-We got a very, very light dusting of wet snow early this morning, but it melted by lunch. Chilly drizzle has been pouring down off and on since then. A lot of rain is predicted for some days this week, starting tomorrow night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 26, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today has had a little of everything, more or less. Early this morning there was a strange rain/snow mix that amounted to nothing except frozen ice on everyone's vehicle. This afternoon we had some sunshine; otherwise it's been partly to mostly cloudy. The weekend weather was crisp, cool, and free of snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 23, 2011

1:15 p.m. in Orofino-Woo it's cold! Like yesterday, it's sunny but freezing out. Similar weather is expected until Monday, and then it's a very small chance of rain. Roads are still icy in spots, and this time of year there are some areas where the sun never hits, so be careful driving.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 22, 2011

3:55 p.m. in Orofino-We've had another cold, clear day in Orofino. Yesterday was like that in the morning, but in the afternoon clouds moved in. Today is even colder than yesterday was. Hopefully the weather will stay mild for those who are traveling over the holidays.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

10:50 a.m. in Orofino-Regarding yesterday's 80% chance of snow, the 20% won out. No snow in downtown Orofino. It's cold and clear today. The sun is a welcome sight after such a dreary day yesterday, even if it is colder.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-The air has the feel of snow to it, and the weather forecast claims there's an 80 percent chance of snow for Orofino tonight. Earlier this afternoon we enjoyed a bit of sunshine peeking out from the cloud cover, but it's getting dark out already.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 19, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Sunday night or early this morning it rained a bit downtown. A very light dusting of snow could be seen on the surrounding valley hills. It's overcast and dark out today, but no new precipitation. The temperature was near 40 degrees, give or take, but is rapidly cooling off.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 16, 2011

2:50 p.m. in Orofino-It's several degrees warmer today - in the low 40s - and much of yesterday's snow has melted. There remains a tiny chance of snow or rain Sunday night. Otherwise, the forecast predicts weather similar to today's - mostly cloudy with a little sunshine here and there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 15, 2011

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Downtown Orofino's first lasting snow of the season hit today, a little unexpectedly. The forecast called for rain. Now it says rain/snow. It snowed all morning and into mid-afternoon. The snow is quite wet, but it's going to be around longer than anything we've received so far this fall/winter.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

9:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today was another cold one, but we did enjoy some sunshine around lunchtime. Clouds had moved in by 1 p.m. Tomorrow is the day our National Weather Service forecast says "rain is likely."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-We didn't get anymore snow, but the air is sporting a damp cold that seems to cling to your skin. The forecast doesn't mention precipitation until Wednesday night, then Thursday. Sunday there's a slight chance of snow, with the snow level at 1200 feet.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 12, 2011

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-This morning Orofino residents awoke to a light blanket of snow, undoubtedly less than half an inch. It didn't melt all the way, either, since today's high was barely above freezing. There's quite a chill in the air, and snow clouds have hovered all day, but the forecast claims there won't be precipitation tonight. It said the same about last night, so we'll see!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 9, 2011

4:35 p.m. in Orofino-Friday in Orofino has been cold and crisp. If you need invigorated take a brief walk outside and that will take care of it! The weekend forecast calls for highs in the low forties and lows in the twenties, with some patchy freezing fog here and there. No mention of snow or rain (at the moment)!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 8, 2011

1:20 p.m. in Orofino-This morning it was so cold that at 10:30 a.m. there remained many a frosted over vehicle window. At about half past noon it felt a lot warmer. The sun is out, at least, and if you don't mind some cold weather it's a pretty day out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 7, 2011

11:40 a.m. in Orofino-Pearl Harbor Day is a little warmer than the day before. Don't  whip out the swim trunks or anything, but your shivering won't be quite as severe as it was yesterday. If we get any precipitation this week it's likely to be today, but the chance of rain has decreased significantly, according to the forecast. As always, we'll see!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

2:15 p.m. in Orofino-Cold and sunny again today - maybe even colder than it was yesterday. The roads here in town don't seem to be too icy, but that could change if the forecast holds true and it rains Wednesday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 5, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Brr! It's been pretty cold out today - the high was in the mid-thirties. We enjoyed some sunshine for a few hours this morning, but by mid-afternoon it had clouded over. Right now the forecast says it will rain Wednesday, but otherwise it should stay dry for most of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 2, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-The Orofino Christmas Festival starts today (and continues tomorrow), and the weather has been beautiful. Not very Christmasy, but beautiful - lots of sunshine and a temperature high enough that you don't need a heavy coat. Right now the sun is setting so it's a lot darker out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 1, 2011

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-The weather for the first day of December in Orofino was chilly but not freezing, and mostly cloudy. Tomorrow's weather calls for a high of about 44, and it's predicted to be mostly sunny. Right now, that type of weather is predicted to continue for the rest of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

6:00 p.m. in Orofino-The big, bad snow storm amounted to light rain last night, and that was it. Grangeville saw a bit of snow, and folks at higher elevations may have, too. Here it was mostly cloudy, with some sun this afternoon, and warmer out. The rest of the week is predicted to be a little warmer, and/or sunny.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-A bit of sun has sneaked through the cloud cover today, but it's been cool and overcast otherwise. Despite the winter storm warning, the forecast for downtown Orofino mentions rain, so we'll see what happens.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 28, 2011

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-The National Weather Service has issued another winter storm warning, to begin Tuesday night. This one specifically names Orofino, along with Grangeville and some of western Montana. A combination of snow and high winds is expected make for poor visibility. The warning lasts through Wednesday night. Today it's been beautiful and sunny. This weekend was not as dreary as expected, though Sunday it was pretty cold.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 25, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-High winds made themselves known early this morning. They settled down a bit by lunch time and eventually backed off to a faint breeze. Until that happened, it was quite brisk outside! The sun burst big and bright through the cloud cover a couple of times this afternoon, but it's still colder today than it was Thanksgiving Day. Look for the dreariness continue through the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 24, 2011

Wednesday's predicted high temperature must have hit today; though dark, dreary, and rainy later on, the temperature was pleasant earlier in the day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-If the high today reached 56, it definitely did not feel like it outside. It's cold enough to snow, and snow clouds are hovering, but it's hard to tell whether downtown Orofino will end up seeing any precipitation. Winds from yesterday haven't carried through into today. It's very dark out already right now, but take heart in the fact that the closer we get o Dec. 21, the sooner it'll begin staying light longer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-Surprisingly, a bit of sunlight is peeking through the ominous cloud cover over Orofino. Clouds capable of precipitating surround the valley. It rained overnight, and will likely rain at some point today or tonight. Tomorrow it's supposed to be a lot warmer, with a high in the low to mid fifties. Rain is still predicted.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 21, 2011

5:40 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's cold enough to snow, but so far, it hasn't. This weekend was another matter - it snowed both days, but the snow was so wet it melted by lunchtime. The National Weather Service predicts we'll get rain this week, rather than snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 18, 2011

10:45 a.m. in Orofino-It did snow overnight, but in town was so wet that it barely counts as snow. What little slush remained on vehicles earlier this morning has melted. A little higher up, it snowed about two inches. Between that and Orofino's elevation, a layer of fog is hovering. More snow/rain mix is expected at least through today, and may turn to plain snow Saturday (if it snows - the chance is about 50%). A winter storm warning is in effect for this area, for elevations at 2,000 feet or above. Greer Grade is specifically named. Five to nine inches of snow could fall.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 17, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-This morning it was warmer out, and we had some rain. Right now it's overcast, with a snow sky looming. The forecast still calls for rain/snow beginning tonight, and it's to continue through the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Overnight it seems to have gone from cold to really cold! It hasn't snowed in town today, but it did up on Wells Bench. Tomorrow the weather forecast says rain showers are likely during the day, and snow showers may hit at night. Friday the forecast claims we may get 3 to 5 inches of new snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-A dinky dab of snowfall greeted downtown residents this morning. Later on it turned into much more than a dinky dab, but still didn't stick. After that, the sun came out for a while, but snow clouds and a winter chill remain. Right now, "snow showers likely" is the weather prediction, beginning Thursday night. If you live in Orofino and have been holding off getting your snow tires on, it might finally be time!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 14, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today the weather has really been something. We've had intermittent heavy rain, fog, and dark clouds that made it seem close to nightfall at 2:45 p.m. More of the heavy winds that hit this weekend whipped through town today, too. Saturday night some very wet snow fell, but it melted when it hit the ground and didn't last long on other surfaces. This dreariness is predicted to continue for the next few days. Tonight and tomorrow rain/snow are likely.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 11, 2011

10:50 a.m. in Orofino-The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for this area today, beginning at noon and lasting until 10 p.m. Rain showers are expected to begin tonight, and to last into early next week. Right now it's sunny, clear, and cold.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 10, 2011

12:50 p.m. in Orofino-Right now it's hard to believe the upcoming threat of rain. It's warmer out than one might expect, and very bright and sunny. Last night the skies were clear and the moon was full. Tomorrow, Veterans Day, the rain is predicted to arrive and stay all weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

9:00 p.m. in Orofino-Again today, once things thawed out, there were a few hours of sunshine and (comparative) warmth. Revel in it now, as this weekend rain showers are forecasted as "likely." And for early next week, some forecasts say rain, while others say snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's been pretty nice out today. For a few hours, from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, it was almost warmish, with bright sunlight and crisp air. It's already starting to get dark out, though.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 7, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Now that Daylight Saving Time is back on, it's pretty dark out by now. It was mostly cloudy today, but hasn't rained during daylight hours. The weekend was partly cloudy to mostly sunny, rather than a barrage of rain showers (discounting a few scattered showers). Pierce was hit with a snowstorm last week, but down here, we've remained snow-free.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 4, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Rain, wind, and fog - that's today in Orofino! Higher up it's probably been snowing (or was last night). This weekend holds similar weather.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 3, 2011

1:45 p.m. in Orofino-The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory beginning at 5 a.m. tomorrow, for areas above 3,000 feet in elevation. That wouldn't include downtown Orofino, but there is now a 20% chance of rain AND snow for Friday night. In the advisory, Pierce and Headquarters are mentioned.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

11:45 a.m. in Orofino-Today is probably the coldest day, to date, of fall. Cars were completely frosted earlier this morning, and the temperature is low enough that people will be dragging out their winter coats (if they haven't already). At least it's sunny out! Enjoy it, as the rain hits tomorrow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Lows are regularly hitting below freezing, and highs are creeping lower and lower. Rain is still predicted beginning Thursday. Today it's sunny and beautiful, if chilly.
