10:30 a.m. in Orofino-Today the skies are partly cloudy, and it's quite brisk out, unlike yesterday, when it was sunny and beautiful, and a little warmer. We may yet get some sunshine today, but it doesn't feel as though it'll get much warmer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-The first day of February has been dreary, murky, and rainy. This morning some very, very light snowfall kicked things off, but it soon turned to sprinkling rain, then a downpour that hasn't let up since it began at lunchtime.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Judging by the temperature and look of the sky, today's weather will be similar to yesterday's. This Thursday is Groundhog's Day. Last year the groundhog's prediction of an early spring was way off.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 30, 2012

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-We got some rain last night and early this morning. Today it was a little warmer out, and we enjoyed a few hours of sunshine. Right now it's clouding over again, and it looks like it could rain again tonight. The weather we've had over the last week is what is predicted for the rest of this week. So far there is no mention whatsoever of snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 27, 2012

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Cold, mostly clear, and crisp out best describes today's weather. With no cloud cover the temperature is significantly lower, but everyone enjoyed the sunshine. It is still light out at 4:30 p.m., as the days are getting longer now that we're past December 21. The National Weather Service predicts a 70% chance of rain tomorrow, and possibly Sunday night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, January 26, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Earlier today it was partly cloudy, but sunny out. Now clouds have moved in and it may rain. It's again a little warmer out, and most of the snow on roads in town is long gone, though the huge piles of it created by snow plows will likely be there for several weeks.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

5:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday's snow didn't amount to anything, and stopped less than an hour after it began. Today we were supposed to see some freezing rain, but so far it hasn't happened, though it did rain for a while last night. It was a little warmer today, and while clouds lingered we did enjoy some sun in the morning and afternoon.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-It's snowing! Instead of the predicted freezing rain, we are, it seems, going to have to endure more snow. It's been pretty cold out today, and snow clouds have slowly moved in. The flakes are pretty small. It's hard to tell whether this will amount to much, or how long it will last.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 23, 2012

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-It did not rain all through the weekend; nor did it snow Saturday night. Today it's been sunny, with a high close to 40 degrees, and people are loving it. Tomorrow the forecast calls for freezing rain, then "regular" rain on Wednesday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 20, 2012

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Thursday, Jan. 19, it poured rain all day long. Sometime in the night it snowed a few more inches of very wet snow, on top of the 18-24 slushy inches already on the ground.  Today it has rained off and on, and the National Weather Service predicts that freezing rain will hit later. The forecast predicts rain all through the weekend, with a possibility for snow Saturday night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Snow resumed last night and continued through lunchtime today, resulting in another six or so inches of snow. It stopped for about an hour, after the flakes decreased in size to where they seemed more like rain, but it has since picked back up and looks like snow again. The forecast predicts that it will begin raining tonight or tomorrow and continue at least through Friday. In the meantime, all of Clearwater County is blanketed in a foot or more of snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Snow clouds hovered all day, but nothing happened until mid-afternoon. It has since stopped snowing, but the forecast insists a winter storm will hit in the next 24 to 48 hours, with several more inches of snow accumulation possible.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 16, 2012

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-The 5-6 inches of snowfall we received during a winter storm overnight is, by far, the most snow downtown Orofino has received this winter. Saturday night it tried to snow, but only a dab made it. This morning we awoke to light, fast snowflakes pouring down, even after the roads were plowed. Later the sun came out. The forecast says we may get more snow tomorrow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 13, 2012

12:15 p.m. in Orofino-The sunny, cold weather continues to continue! Frost in areas where the sun doesn't hit, or only hits for an hour a day, looks like like snowfall and has yet to melt. There may not be any actual snow, but there's plenty of ice, so be sure to drive safely.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

4:55 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been typical of the last several days - sunny and cold. Last night was particularly chilly, and we awoke to so much frost that at a glance it seemed like snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-A big rainstorm hit overnight, so today, though wetter, has been less chilly. The sun came out for a while this afternoon. The National Weather Service is predicting that a cold front will hit the northwest next week, but is uncertain about whether precipitation will accompany the colder weather.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 9, 2012

3:10 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday night we got the first snow of the year, but it melted by midday Sunday. Otherwise it's been pretty cold and crisp. There's a full moon tonight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 6, 2012

4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today wasn't quite as warm out as yesterday, but it was still pretty nice. We've had a dry spell since about Thanksgiving, and a report e-mailed to us today explained that most of Idaho's snowpacks are below normal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, January 5, 2012

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast called for some rain, but so far none has fallen. Rain clouds have loomed all day. It was warm again, but the strong, brisk wind kept it from being as pleasant out as yesterday was. It's hard to tell whether or not it will rain later tonight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

1:45 p.m. in Orofino-We're being spoiled by the weather today. It's sunny and almost warm, with a high pushing 50 degrees. In sunny areas you almost don't need a heavy coat. Tomorrow the forecast says rain is likely.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Based on the texture of the ice on car windows this morning, it may have rained a little overnight, then froze into a bubbly mess that takes longer to melt. It was pretty brisk out again today, but we did enjoy some sunshine.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 2, 2012

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-The first Monday of 2012 is a cold one, bringing iced over windows and enough frost that a quick glance might fool you into thinking a bit of snow had fallen. The high today was in the low to mid 30s. There is a slight chance of rain tonight and tomorrow, and possibly later in the week. It did not snow in downtown Orofino over the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 30, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Rain returned last night had has continued, off and on, today, with no signs of letting up. Fog us hovering just above us, obscuring most of the surrounding hillsides. The snow level is expected to reach 1,000 feet late tonight. If Orofino is hit, it will probably be with very wet snow. The weekend is supposed to be mostly rain-free. Earlier in the week there was a slight chance of rain Saturday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 29, 2011

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino's weather took a turn for the weird. The rain never really let up yesterday, and in the middle of the night it became shifting torrential downpours, the sort where you could stand outside for eight seconds and get soaked through. Today, even though the forecast insisted it would rain, it has instead been sunny, warm, and just beautiful - it feels like April. With this sort of randomness it is tough to tell what will happen tomorrow! The National Weather Service issued a snow storm alert beginning tomorrow, but the snow level is about 4,000 feet and will move up to 5,500 feet by Saturday. It did mention that valleys below 4,000 feet may see 1-2 inches of snow. These snowstorm warnings have, to date, not affected Orofino.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Rain and fog since early this morning in Orofino today, and the forecast predicts more of the same, at least through Friday. It's a bit warmer out, at least. Most people around here who comment on the weather have said they're just grateful it isn't snowing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-We got a very, very light dusting of wet snow early this morning, but it melted by lunch. Chilly drizzle has been pouring down off and on since then. A lot of rain is predicted for some days this week, starting tomorrow night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 26, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today has had a little of everything, more or less. Early this morning there was a strange rain/snow mix that amounted to nothing except frozen ice on everyone's vehicle. This afternoon we had some sunshine; otherwise it's been partly to mostly cloudy. The weekend weather was crisp, cool, and free of snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 23, 2011

1:15 p.m. in Orofino-Woo it's cold! Like yesterday, it's sunny but freezing out. Similar weather is expected until Monday, and then it's a very small chance of rain. Roads are still icy in spots, and this time of year there are some areas where the sun never hits, so be careful driving.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 22, 2011

3:55 p.m. in Orofino-We've had another cold, clear day in Orofino. Yesterday was like that in the morning, but in the afternoon clouds moved in. Today is even colder than yesterday was. Hopefully the weather will stay mild for those who are traveling over the holidays.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

10:50 a.m. in Orofino-Regarding yesterday's 80% chance of snow, the 20% won out. No snow in downtown Orofino. It's cold and clear today. The sun is a welcome sight after such a dreary day yesterday, even if it is colder.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-The air has the feel of snow to it, and the weather forecast claims there's an 80 percent chance of snow for Orofino tonight. Earlier this afternoon we enjoyed a bit of sunshine peeking out from the cloud cover, but it's getting dark out already.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 19, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Sunday night or early this morning it rained a bit downtown. A very light dusting of snow could be seen on the surrounding valley hills. It's overcast and dark out today, but no new precipitation. The temperature was near 40 degrees, give or take, but is rapidly cooling off.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 16, 2011

2:50 p.m. in Orofino-It's several degrees warmer today - in the low 40s - and much of yesterday's snow has melted. There remains a tiny chance of snow or rain Sunday night. Otherwise, the forecast predicts weather similar to today's - mostly cloudy with a little sunshine here and there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 15, 2011

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Downtown Orofino's first lasting snow of the season hit today, a little unexpectedly. The forecast called for rain. Now it says rain/snow. It snowed all morning and into mid-afternoon. The snow is quite wet, but it's going to be around longer than anything we've received so far this fall/winter.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

9:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today was another cold one, but we did enjoy some sunshine around lunchtime. Clouds had moved in by 1 p.m. Tomorrow is the day our National Weather Service forecast says "rain is likely."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-We didn't get anymore snow, but the air is sporting a damp cold that seems to cling to your skin. The forecast doesn't mention precipitation until Wednesday night, then Thursday. Sunday there's a slight chance of snow, with the snow level at 1200 feet.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 12, 2011

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-This morning Orofino residents awoke to a light blanket of snow, undoubtedly less than half an inch. It didn't melt all the way, either, since today's high was barely above freezing. There's quite a chill in the air, and snow clouds have hovered all day, but the forecast claims there won't be precipitation tonight. It said the same about last night, so we'll see!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 9, 2011

4:35 p.m. in Orofino-Friday in Orofino has been cold and crisp. If you need invigorated take a brief walk outside and that will take care of it! The weekend forecast calls for highs in the low forties and lows in the twenties, with some patchy freezing fog here and there. No mention of snow or rain (at the moment)!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 8, 2011

1:20 p.m. in Orofino-This morning it was so cold that at 10:30 a.m. there remained many a frosted over vehicle window. At about half past noon it felt a lot warmer. The sun is out, at least, and if you don't mind some cold weather it's a pretty day out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 7, 2011

11:40 a.m. in Orofino-Pearl Harbor Day is a little warmer than the day before. Don't  whip out the swim trunks or anything, but your shivering won't be quite as severe as it was yesterday. If we get any precipitation this week it's likely to be today, but the chance of rain has decreased significantly, according to the forecast. As always, we'll see!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

2:15 p.m. in Orofino-Cold and sunny again today - maybe even colder than it was yesterday. The roads here in town don't seem to be too icy, but that could change if the forecast holds true and it rains Wednesday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 5, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Brr! It's been pretty cold out today - the high was in the mid-thirties. We enjoyed some sunshine for a few hours this morning, but by mid-afternoon it had clouded over. Right now the forecast says it will rain Wednesday, but otherwise it should stay dry for most of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 2, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-The Orofino Christmas Festival starts today (and continues tomorrow), and the weather has been beautiful. Not very Christmasy, but beautiful - lots of sunshine and a temperature high enough that you don't need a heavy coat. Right now the sun is setting so it's a lot darker out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 1, 2011

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-The weather for the first day of December in Orofino was chilly but not freezing, and mostly cloudy. Tomorrow's weather calls for a high of about 44, and it's predicted to be mostly sunny. Right now, that type of weather is predicted to continue for the rest of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

6:00 p.m. in Orofino-The big, bad snow storm amounted to light rain last night, and that was it. Grangeville saw a bit of snow, and folks at higher elevations may have, too. Here it was mostly cloudy, with some sun this afternoon, and warmer out. The rest of the week is predicted to be a little warmer, and/or sunny.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-A bit of sun has sneaked through the cloud cover today, but it's been cool and overcast otherwise. Despite the winter storm warning, the forecast for downtown Orofino mentions rain, so we'll see what happens.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 28, 2011

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-The National Weather Service has issued another winter storm warning, to begin Tuesday night. This one specifically names Orofino, along with Grangeville and some of western Montana. A combination of snow and high winds is expected make for poor visibility. The warning lasts through Wednesday night. Today it's been beautiful and sunny. This weekend was not as dreary as expected, though Sunday it was pretty cold.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 25, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-High winds made themselves known early this morning. They settled down a bit by lunch time and eventually backed off to a faint breeze. Until that happened, it was quite brisk outside! The sun burst big and bright through the cloud cover a couple of times this afternoon, but it's still colder today than it was Thanksgiving Day. Look for the dreariness continue through the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 24, 2011

Wednesday's predicted high temperature must have hit today; though dark, dreary, and rainy later on, the temperature was pleasant earlier in the day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-If the high today reached 56, it definitely did not feel like it outside. It's cold enough to snow, and snow clouds are hovering, but it's hard to tell whether downtown Orofino will end up seeing any precipitation. Winds from yesterday haven't carried through into today. It's very dark out already right now, but take heart in the fact that the closer we get o Dec. 21, the sooner it'll begin staying light longer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-Surprisingly, a bit of sunlight is peeking through the ominous cloud cover over Orofino. Clouds capable of precipitating surround the valley. It rained overnight, and will likely rain at some point today or tonight. Tomorrow it's supposed to be a lot warmer, with a high in the low to mid fifties. Rain is still predicted.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 21, 2011

5:40 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's cold enough to snow, but so far, it hasn't. This weekend was another matter - it snowed both days, but the snow was so wet it melted by lunchtime. The National Weather Service predicts we'll get rain this week, rather than snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 18, 2011

10:45 a.m. in Orofino-It did snow overnight, but in town was so wet that it barely counts as snow. What little slush remained on vehicles earlier this morning has melted. A little higher up, it snowed about two inches. Between that and Orofino's elevation, a layer of fog is hovering. More snow/rain mix is expected at least through today, and may turn to plain snow Saturday (if it snows - the chance is about 50%). A winter storm warning is in effect for this area, for elevations at 2,000 feet or above. Greer Grade is specifically named. Five to nine inches of snow could fall.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 17, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-This morning it was warmer out, and we had some rain. Right now it's overcast, with a snow sky looming. The forecast still calls for rain/snow beginning tonight, and it's to continue through the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Overnight it seems to have gone from cold to really cold! It hasn't snowed in town today, but it did up on Wells Bench. Tomorrow the weather forecast says rain showers are likely during the day, and snow showers may hit at night. Friday the forecast claims we may get 3 to 5 inches of new snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-A dinky dab of snowfall greeted downtown residents this morning. Later on it turned into much more than a dinky dab, but still didn't stick. After that, the sun came out for a while, but snow clouds and a winter chill remain. Right now, "snow showers likely" is the weather prediction, beginning Thursday night. If you live in Orofino and have been holding off getting your snow tires on, it might finally be time!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 14, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today the weather has really been something. We've had intermittent heavy rain, fog, and dark clouds that made it seem close to nightfall at 2:45 p.m. More of the heavy winds that hit this weekend whipped through town today, too. Saturday night some very wet snow fell, but it melted when it hit the ground and didn't last long on other surfaces. This dreariness is predicted to continue for the next few days. Tonight and tomorrow rain/snow are likely.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 11, 2011

10:50 a.m. in Orofino-The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for this area today, beginning at noon and lasting until 10 p.m. Rain showers are expected to begin tonight, and to last into early next week. Right now it's sunny, clear, and cold.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 10, 2011

12:50 p.m. in Orofino-Right now it's hard to believe the upcoming threat of rain. It's warmer out than one might expect, and very bright and sunny. Last night the skies were clear and the moon was full. Tomorrow, Veterans Day, the rain is predicted to arrive and stay all weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

9:00 p.m. in Orofino-Again today, once things thawed out, there were a few hours of sunshine and (comparative) warmth. Revel in it now, as this weekend rain showers are forecasted as "likely." And for early next week, some forecasts say rain, while others say snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's been pretty nice out today. For a few hours, from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, it was almost warmish, with bright sunlight and crisp air. It's already starting to get dark out, though.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, November 7, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Now that Daylight Saving Time is back on, it's pretty dark out by now. It was mostly cloudy today, but hasn't rained during daylight hours. The weekend was partly cloudy to mostly sunny, rather than a barrage of rain showers (discounting a few scattered showers). Pierce was hit with a snowstorm last week, but down here, we've remained snow-free.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, November 4, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Rain, wind, and fog - that's today in Orofino! Higher up it's probably been snowing (or was last night). This weekend holds similar weather.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, November 3, 2011

1:45 p.m. in Orofino-The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory beginning at 5 a.m. tomorrow, for areas above 3,000 feet in elevation. That wouldn't include downtown Orofino, but there is now a 20% chance of rain AND snow for Friday night. In the advisory, Pierce and Headquarters are mentioned.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

11:45 a.m. in Orofino-Today is probably the coldest day, to date, of fall. Cars were completely frosted earlier this morning, and the temperature is low enough that people will be dragging out their winter coats (if they haven't already). At least it's sunny out! Enjoy it, as the rain hits tomorrow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Lows are regularly hitting below freezing, and highs are creeping lower and lower. Rain is still predicted beginning Thursday. Today it's sunny and beautiful, if chilly.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, October 31, 2011

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-The Halloween forecast looks decent. It's been sunny out, and though it's not cold, there's a strong breeze that makes it seem colder than it probably is. The National Weather Service issued an alert that a bunch of snow is supposed to sweep through parts of Montana and Idaho Thursday night. Here the forecast just mentions rain, with a high of 41 degrees. Cold, but not quite low enough for snow. Of course it could all change tomorrow!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, October 28, 2011

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Sunlight was shining earlier today, but the snow sky moved in late this afternoon. It's unlikely downtown Orofino will see any snow, but higher elevations may. It's pitch dark about by 6:30 these days, and after Daylight Saving Time next weekend, it'll be 5:30, and then earlier and earlier as Dec. 21 approaches. Yesterday was surprisingly warm; today that winter bite is back.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, October 27, 2011

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's the warmest it's been all week (so far), with plenty of sunshine and a gentle breeze. Last night there was a snow sky out, but it was too warm to snow in downtown Orofino. Higher elevations may have gotten a little snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-Another crisp, mostly clear day is in the works. There were some frosted over windows last night in Orofino, and folks who live higher up reported temperatures at around 26 degrees this morning. Friday night and Saturday there's a slight chance of showers, but otherwise it's supposed to be partly cloudy, with highs in the low 50s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

6:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today it was mostly sunny, with a definite bite to the air. Tonight it's going to be colder than it has since springtime. Similar weather is expected for the next few days.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, October 24, 2011

4:10 p.m. in Orofino-It hasn't rained today (yet), though rain clouds have loomed. It's been partly cloudy, and this morning there was a chilly breeze. We did get a little rain over the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, October 21, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-The temperature is pleasant today, but it began raining after 2 p.m. and continued for about an hour. From the look of the sky, it could start up again anytime. Next week the weather looks to cool off, with highs in the low 50s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, October 20, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather is similar to yesterday's - warmer in the afternoon, and partly cloudy. It's beautiful Fall weather! Last night there was a brief smattering of rain, but otherwise it hasn't rained in a few days.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

6:00 p.m. in Orofino-Last night and this morning it was cold out, not just cool, and enough so that it might be time for scarves and mittens, or a coat instead of a jacket. According to the weather provided by the fish hatchery, last week was colder this year than it was the previous year. That's been true for most of the year. It was chilly this morning, but warmed up. And it was only partly cloudy, and we enjoyed some sunshine.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-At last, a clear and sunny autumn day. There's a little bit of a bite to the air, but it's no worse than yesterday's. With any luck this week we'll have more days like today!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, October 17, 2011

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-The winter chill was back today, but was offset by the fact the sun came out this afternoon. There may be some fog early in the week, and the threat of rain returns on Thursday. Highs are supposed to remain near 60, though it feels colder out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, October 14, 2011

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-For about half an hour this afternoon, it was sunny and perfect out. The temperature remains pleasant, though the clouds have taken over again. It's smoky out, too, probably from prescribed burning.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, October 13, 2011

2:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's mostly cloudy, and cool, but not dark and dreary. There's also light breeze. The forecast says the sun may yet come out from behind the clouds today. Then, it's mostly rain until Monday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

8:25 p.m. in Orofino-Most of today was very pleasant, with more afternoon sunshine. We awoke to dreary rain clouds, and they've been nearby all day, but it hasn't rained today. The temperature is cool enough that you might need a jacket.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

5:30 p.m. in Orofino-A surprise thunderstorm hit Orofino last night, along with sheets of heavy rain. Rain continued today, but at lunchtime the clouds parted enough for the sun to shine through, and it was quite beautiful out. The forecast is predicting that later in the week the rain may back off.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, October 10, 2011

3:55 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino enjoyed a beautiful weekend, though it did cloud up later in the day Sunday. Today it's been murky and cold. Right now it's raining, and folks at higher elevations may be seeing a little snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, October 7, 2011

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-It's cool and overcast out again today, but lacks the winter chill of yesterday. Some rain fell, mostly this morning. We've received reports of snow at higher elevations such as Rudo Road.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, October 6, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather forecast began with one word: rain. The weather has lived up to that prediction, raining off and on all day. It's about 50 degrees out. Funny how 50 degrees feels cold coming out of summer, but warm coming out of winter. The chance of rain for tomorrow and Saturday is slight, but it will likely be overcast and dreary for most of the day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

11:25 p.m. in Orofino-Even though it's rainy again today, the actual temperature isn't bad. At the moment sunlight is making an effort to break through the clouds. Trees are beginning to turn beautiful shades of yellow, orange, gold, and red.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, October 4, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Overnight it has gone from summer to Autumn. Today it's cold enough for a jacket, and has been overcast, dreary, and raining for most of the day. Similar weather is expected for most of the week, though how likely it is to rain keeps fluctuating.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, October 3, 2011

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-It rained Friday night or early Saturday morning, and was surprisingly warm over the weekend. Today it's quite a bit cooler, but again, so beautiful out you hate to be stuck indoors. Rain is predicted for the rest of the week, with highs in the low 60s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, September 30, 2011

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-And the smoke continues! It's fairly thick right at the moment. Too bad - otherwise it's perfect out. The nights are getting cooler and cooler, but the days are still gorgeous.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, September 29, 2011

4:35 p.m. in Orofino-It's been a little smoky out, and this morning helicopters were constantly passing over the area. The sky is completely clear of clouds, and it's warm and gently windy. Another beautiful day!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

8:35 p.m. in Orofino-Those who thrive on days that are sunny and warm (not hot!) with a perfectly cool breeze undoubtedly enjoyed the weather in Orofino today. Expect it to be a little warmer tomorrow. The rest of the week should be about like today, though with a slight chance of rain some days.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

7:00 p.m. in Orofino-Clouds moved in this afternoon. It hasn't rained (so far). Smoke from prescribed burns and perhaps a couple of fires reported by C-PTPA lingered over the valley for a few hours today, too. It was pretty thick, and could be smelled even indoors. It's looking like summer weather is on it's way out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, September 26, 2011

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-It's beautiful out today, but much cooler. Saturday was another baking hot day. Sunday it was overcast and very windy, and later it poured rain. Today the air is very fresh and cool. Some clouds are lingering, but overall it's been sunny.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, September 23, 2011

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Despite the seeming cooler weather yesterday afternoon, it ended up feeling fairly balmy. Today it's good and hot, and the sky is a bit hazy, but mostly clear. Saturday is expected to be another hot one. Sunday it will, according to the forecast, cool down a lot, and perhaps rain that night and on Monday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, September 22, 2011

4:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today began clear and toasty, with a high near 90, but a few minutes ago it became overcast. Already it's significantly cooler than it was just three hours ago. There are no showers predicted for tonight. The next couple of days are expected to be about as warm as today was. A small chance of rain showers is predicted for Sunday and Monday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-This is another gorgeous September day here in Orofino. A few clouds are hovering, but it's been sunny and perfect. The forecast still claims the temperatures will get higher later in the week, even into the low 90s. There's mention of clouds, but no rain.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Though a bit cool today (comparatively), it's been absolutely beautiful out, with sunshine and a pleasant breeze. According to the weather forecast, temperatures will get back into the 80s and even 90s this week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, September 19, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-The fair has come and gone for another year, and for the most part the weather cooperated. Last night we were hit with quite the rain and thunder. Today it's been partly cloudy and windy, but pleasantly warm, and the air is fresh from recent rains.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, September 16, 2011

2:25 p.m. in Orofino-Today is even cooler out than yesterday, though it began with sun instead of rain. Clouds have moved in, so a bit of rain may fall later today or tonight. It's not having much affect on the fair - nearby parking places are scarce and people are constantly crossing the street outside the Clearwater Tribune's office. Traffic past here is, at times, stop and go. This sort of weather is expected to continue through the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, September 15, 2011

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-In just one day the weather went from smoky and hot to cool, overcast, windy, and rainy. The rain helped clear the smoke, so much so the Nez Perce Tribe lifted their air quality advisory. It's a little balmy out now, but since the temperature is not 95, it's bearable. Fair vendors have set up booths all round the entrance to the park, as well as inside, and the carnival will open in less than an hour.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

11:45 p.m. in Orofino-Hopefully everyone enjoyed the break from wildfire smoke, because it's back and then some today. It's a little cooler out, and is predicted to get even cooler as the week rolls on. The National Weather Service is predicting a light chance of rain Thursday through Sunday evenings, and highs will range from 70 to the mid-80s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The wildfire smoke isn't nearly as thick today. With any luck, it'll stay away for good. Today's still good and hot, but it was cooler this morning, and took longer to reach the baking heat.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, September 12, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today's another cooker, but it's supposed to cool down a little in time for the fair. The highs will stay in the 90s until Thursday, when it's supposed to drop into the 80s. The smoke flowing in from all the forest fires remains, and may be here for several more days.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, September 9, 2011

2:15 p.m. in Orofino-Persons with respiratory issues are advised to stay indoors today, as smoke from numerous forest fires continues to hover over the Clearwater Valley. The Nez Perce Tribe has issued an air quality advisory for today. They say air quality has improved since yesterday, but some areas may be more impacted than others. It's also very hot out today, well into the 90s. Expect more of the same over the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, September 8, 2011

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-The first thing half the customers who've visited the Clearwater Tribune today have said upon stepping inside is, "It's nice and cool in here!" It's a toasty Thursday in Orofino, and the acridly sweet scent of smoke from prescribed burns and numerous forest fires has lingered for most of the day. Temperatures are 10 to 15 degrees above normal in areas on the Nez Perce and Clearwater National Forests. A cold front next Thursday, is expected to bring some relief and return temperatures to normal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

11:15 a.m. in Orofino-Get ready for some heat! According to the weather forecast it's going to get close to 100, or hit 100, for the rest of the week. Lows will be in the mid-50s. Today it's pretty smoky out again, as the prescribed burning continues.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

10:45 a.m. in Orofino-A perfect three-day weekend is being followed up by a beautiful Tuesday. Sunday and Monday were hot, while today is cooler, but it's still sunny and warm in the sun.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, September 2, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather is just like yesterday's, and a great kickoff for what promises to be a sunny, warm Labor Day weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, September 1, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-The first day of September is the sort of day you do not want to be indoors for. It's pleasantly warm in the sun, rather than baking hot, and a cool, refreshing breeze takes the edge off. In the shade it's absolutely perfect. Lows tonight and Friday night are expected to be in the mid-40s. After that, they'll go into the mid-50s, as daytime temperatures return to the 90s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

11:15 a.m. in Orofino-Today's weather is quite pleasant. Earlier this morning it was cool enough to encourage some to wear a long-sleeved shirt or light jacket. It's also windy, and tonight there's a chance of rain. By the time the weekend rolls around, it's supposed to get back up to 90.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-It's significantly cooler out today, and far less humid. Tomorrow is supposed to be even cooler. There have been several new forest fires since yesterday. Luckily, most are very small.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, August 29, 2011

3:10 p.m. in Orofino-Today should feel slightly better out, since it rained Sunday night, but it doesn't. There was a huge lightning storm, also, which may have started some new forest fires. Later this week it's supposed to cool off into the 80s, but next week it's predicted to get back into the 90s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 26, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The last Friday in August is suitably sweltering. This weekend will be perfect for those who like to boat, camp, and swim. Lewiston's Hot August Nights is this weekend, and Sunday Orofino's churches are putting on a free picnic in the park. The OES principal, OCI Royalty, and several other community leaders are scheduled to sit over the dunk tank. The water will undoubtedly feel good on a hot weekend like this one.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, August 25, 2011

3:10 p.m. in Orofino-This morning and for a while this afternoon some clouds moved in. While not quite dark enough to be rainclouds, they weren't white and fluffy, either. In terms of temperature, it's stifling out and probably feels even hotter than it actually is. That being said, we are extremely lucky not to be in the path of a hurricane.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

11:30 a.m. in Orofino-It's quite toasty out today, as predicted! The high is supposed to reach about 98 degrees. Friday the high may be 99. Tomorrow, in particular, there's a slight chance of thunderstorms and rain showers, so expect it to be muggy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Light wind and dry heat comprise today's weather. Today was also the first day back to school for district 171 students. Summery weather will await them when school lets out this week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, August 22, 2011

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-The days are pretty hot and dry lately, and smoke from some prescribed burning upriver has been hovering in the area. Sunday it was much thicker than it is today. Tomorrow is the first day of school, and the high is predicted to be 91. Wednesday the temperature is supposed to get close to 100.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 19, 2011

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-Since Monday, most days this week have been warm enough for those craving hot summer days, even if the evenings get surprisingly cool. The highs and lows this weekend are now predicted to be a little higher, 93 and 56, respectively.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, August 18, 2011

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's a bit windy out today, and sunny and warm. Yesterday many media outlets were covering a wildfire near Kellogg that is threatening homes, and reporting the damage wind was doing to containment efforts. So far there haven't been any forest fires near Orofino (excluding prescribed burning earlier this week). There have been two near Weippe. Both were fairly minor, and both appear to be caused by humans (rather than, for example, lightning) and are under investigation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

11:30 a.m. in Orofino-Evenings are getting cooler. This week there are supposed to be lows in the upper 40s, while highs remain close to 90. Overall last year it did get hotter (we still haven't broken 100 this year), but according to the weather records kept by the Dworshak fish hatchery in Ahsahka, last year at this time it was a little cooler, too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

3:25 p.m. in Orofino-It's bright, sunny, and a bit windy out today, with a high close to 90. The forecast for the rest of the week says it'll be clear and sunny.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, August 15, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The temperature today is significantly cooler than it's been in recent weeks. For much of the day it was cloudy out. Prescribed burns are happening nearby, and the smoke is visible from the city park. There have been reports of a fire or two near Kamiah. Late Sunday night and early Monday morning some lightning and thunder moved in, and it rained, briefly. Tomorrow is expected to be a little warmer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 12, 2011

4:15 p.m. in Orofino-It's pretty hot, but not blistering outside, today. Earlier this week weather services were predicting tomorrow's high as about 97. Now, they range from 88 to 92 as the listed high. Early next week the highs are supposed to drop to the low 80s. I guess we'll just have to step outside and read the thermometer ourselves!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, August 11, 2011

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-The wind's blowing today, though not too fiercely. Otherwise, it's another typical hot summer day in Orofino!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-It's noticeably, strangely cooler outside today. Looking out the window and noticing the cloudy skies, one might expect it to feel extra muggy, but it's the opposite. The high is predicted to be about 90. Saturday it's supposed to get HOT, but early next week the highs could sneak down into the 80s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

3:25 p.m. in Orofino-It feels dryer out every day, and is of course hot. So far there haven't been any local forest fires, according to C-PTPA. This weekend is supposed to be very dry.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, August 8, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-8/8 is a typical hot summer day. Forest fires are starting to be reported in the Clearwater, Nez Perce, and Payette National Forests, most (so far) started by lightning. As hot as it is here, there are parts of the country enduring brutal heat waves. Stay cool!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, August 5, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Despite yesterday's cloud cover, very little, if anything, occurred in terms of precipitation. Today's another dry, muggy summer day in Orofino, and the weekend will probably be the same way.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, August 4, 2011

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Thunderstorms are predicted for tonight, and though the chance is slight, the cloud cover moving in suggests the weather is at least considering it. If it ends up raining, the respite from this week's humidity would be welcome.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

11:20 a.m. in Orofino-Mugginess continues! With only a slight chance of thunderstorms and showers for the remainder of the week, it's likely to continue being this stuffy out. Otherwise beautiful - sunny and clear, and the high will again be in the 90s. We still haven't hit 100, but later this week the high is predicted to be 95.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Even folks who love the heat are probably a little uncomfortable today - it's very muggy out, and the high is about 90. There's a very slight chance of thunderstorms tonight. Right now the skies are clear.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, August 1, 2011

3:20 p.m. in Orofino-It's hot! Though highs remain in the 90s (rather than reaching 100), it's hot enough out to swim or play in the sprinkler. Apart from a few hours when it was overcast Saturday, this weekend was sunny and hot, as predicted. The hot wind from Friday continues today.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, July 29, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Step outside in Orofino today, and you'd feel a hot wind along with warm sunshine beating down. The sky is clear and blue, with not a cloud in the sky. Enjoy your summer weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, July 28, 2011

12:30 p.m. in Orofino-The weather forecast appears to be holding true. It's sunny, mostly clear, and hot (about 90). Those who love boating, swimming, and other summertime outdoor activities should get a perfect weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

11:35 a.m. in Orofino-Clouds are lurking, but the forecast still calls for plenty of sunshine and a high of about 80 and a low of 52. There's going to be a bit of wind, too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

6:50 p.m. in Orofino-The rain and thunder hit last night, not today. It lasted for a few hours, and the rain was very heavy and very loud. Today is much less muggy, and while rainclouds continue to hover, there's been no precipitation. The weather for the rest of the week is predicted to be mostly clear, with highs in the 80s to low 90s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, July 25, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Those who dislike humidity won't be fond of stepping outside in Orofino today. It's good and hot out, probably in the 90s, and very muggy. Tomorrow there's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, which may account for how suffocating the air feels today. We haven't seen any highs at 100 or above yet this year. The Clearwater River is finally going down, but is still pretty high for this time of year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, July 22, 2011

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Though it's been mostly clear today, there have been a few minutes here and there where it appears to be at least partly cloudy. The temperature is warm, but pleasant, and the light breeze takes the edge off the heat. Enjoy the sunny weekend!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, July 21, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Partly cloudy, hot, and humid best describes today's weather. There's a slight chance of showers tonight, and then it's to be mostly clear and sunny for the rest of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

10:45 a.m. in Orofino-Today started mostly sunny, and will likely remain so, unlike yesterday. As the afternoon wore on it became darker and darker, and finally the downpour hit. It lasted for just a few hours. Today we'll enjoy less humidity and a lower high temperature, as well as plenty of sun. Tomorrow the slight chance of rain returns, but after that it's going to be sunny and hotter.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Whether or not it will rain today remains unclear. It has been slowly clouding over since lunchtime, and has remained a little windy since this morning. It's also quite hot and humid, though still not near 100 degrees.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, July 18, 2011

1:40 p.m. in Orofino-It's a hot, clear day today. Welcome back, summer - we missed you on Saturday! Rain showers pummeled Orofino in the evening, and some also hit mid-morning, touching on the first hour of the Orofino Show & Shine. Those who love 90 degree weather, enjoy it now. Later in the week the temperature is predicted to drop into the 80s, then the 70s, and more rain and thunderstorms are mentioned. The chances are pretty slight on some days, but Tuesday's percentage of rain and/or thunder is 50%.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, July 15, 2011

1:20 p.m. in Orofino-For now, the cooler, cloudy weather of the last couple days has backed off. While it's still a ways from the blistering 100 degree heat one expects in summertime, it's definitely closer to the 90s than it has been for most of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, July 14, 2011

2:35 p.m. in Orofino-As yesterday, this morning was cooler and overcast, though without rain. As the day has gone by, the clouds moved on and it's now sunny and warm, with a pleasant breeze. It looks like Show & Shine attendees and participants may deal with the threat of rain. Perhaps, since the event ends mid-afternoon, they'll avoid the worst of it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

6:05 p.m. in Orofino-Today began with a blanket of dark clouds, humidity, and cooler temperatures. It did rain, a little, but by mid-afternoon the clouds had pulled away and the sun was out. It remained balmy outside.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

1:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's quite balmy out. The actual temperature isn't any hotter than yesterday, but it feels a lot hotter. Last night some rain clouds hovered, but nothing happened. Later in the week, rain may fall.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, July 11, 2011

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-When you step outside in the morning these days, it smells like summer. It's difficult to describe - maybe the smell of water drying on pavement, or freshly cut grass, or any number of things. Today it's hot, probably in the low 90s. Amazingly, rain and thunder are predicted for later in the week. This may stay a wet summer!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, July 8, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-For those of you who like warm, sunny days but not scorching hot ones, today's perfect. Get out and enjoy it, if you can. Yesterday it poured rain for a few minutes, and then the dark clouds parted and it was sunny for the rest of the evening. This weekend is supposed to be hot but not blistering, with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, July 7, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-As the day wears on, rain clouds have moved closer and closer, and now hover over Orofino. It's very dark out now, and also hot and stuffy. If it doesn't end up raining, the lingering humidity may be suffocating. Thunder and lightning have begun, so rain may not be far behind.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

11:35 a.m. in Orofino-Believe it or not, rain and possible thunderstorms are predicted for Thursday. It's a very slight chance, so we'll see. Then Friday, the high is supposed to be in the mid-70s. Today is a hot one, though - sunny and beautiful, too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

11:40 a.m. in Orofino-It seems, at long last, that typical summer weather will be the norm, rather than the exception, for the next couple of months. The holiday weekend here was hot (but not scorching) and rain-free. Gardeners and yard workers should finally be able to get moving!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, July 1, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Sunshine! It looks like the beautiful, summertime weather predicted for this weekend has begun. There's even a wonderful light breeze. Enjoy your Fourth of July holiday weekend!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, June 30, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-While some lingering clouds have Orofino surrounded, it's been mostly sunny and pleasantly warm. Yesterday an extremely heavy downpour pelted Orofino a little before 5 p.m. It didn't last long (less than an hour), but if you stood in it for a couple of minutes you'd be very drenched. The weather forecast for the rest of the week looks very promising, with mostly clear skies and highs in the upper 80s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

11:35 a.m. in Orofino-Once today has come and gone, we can expect mostly perfect weather, including on July 4. For today, though, it seems we'll endure more rain. Last night it rained for just a few minutes - long enough to get everyone's vehicle filthy - but the day was otherwise fairly clear. Today we had about an hour of sunshine. On either side of it have been clouds and darker skies.

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's humid! Last night, briefly, it poured rain. Unfortunately, this did nothing to combat the rampant humidity we are experiencing today. It's been mostly sunny, but clouds have moved in. None, at the moment, are dark enough to result in rain, though that could certainly change. Wednesday and Thursday there is a slight chance of rain, according to the forecast.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 27, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Unfortunately, this week's forecast again mentions rain. This weekend was beautiful and rain-free, as is today, with a high in the 80s. Similar weather is expected tomorrow. After that, we may be enduring thunderstorms and rain.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, June 24, 2011

4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Like yesterday, it's mostly sunny, and warm but not as hot as it was early this week. There's even a pleasant breeze. If this type of weather continues all weekend, it's sure to be perfect for any sort of outdoor activity!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, June 23, 2011

1:25 p.m. in Orofino-Thunder! Lightning! That was yesterday night, along with brief, sporadic bursts of rain. Today rain clouds are hovering, but it's partly sunny and in the 70s. For the rest of the week, the highs are predicted to be in the 70s, and still no mention of rain.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Summery weather continues today, with plenty of sun and heat. The high is expected to be about 90 degrees. Slightly cooler weather may return later in the week, but after tomorrow morning there is no mention of rain (or thunder).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Summer is "officially" here, and today's weather is reflecting as much. It's hot and sunny, with a high in the mid to upper 80s. The weather forecast is slightly different than it was yesterday, now reporting similar weather for the rest of the week, though with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow night. Maybe it's safe to install those air conditioners...?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 20, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday it rained off and on, while Sunday was mostly overcast and without rain. Today, the temperature is probably close to 80, and while there are clouds here and there, it's been sunny and beautiful. Tomorrow and Wednesday the highs are expected to get into the mid-80s, then drop again to about 70 for a couple more days. A bit of rain is predicted, but it's such a small chance that nothing may come of it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, June 17, 2011

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather is an improvement over yesterdays. Clouds linger and it's often overcast, but the sun frequently emerges. It's also warmer, with the high back in the 70s, and a light breeze blowing. The chance of showers through the weekend is 50 percent or more, but next week the weather looks to make it back into the 80s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, June 16, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Brrr! Today's high is probably in the low 60s. It's been overcast and cooler all day, and not long ago rain began to pour. Keep those umbrellas and jackets handy - similar weather is expected for at least the next few days!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-It appears today's weather is going to be slightly cooler, and all over the map in terms of sun and rain. One moment it's pouring, the next the sun is out. There's a light breeze, too. Workers are re-painting crosswalk lines around town, and the paint's smell is quite potent, especially when carried along on said breeze.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today has been partly cloudy and warm. The highs for the rest of the week are expected to creep down from the mid-70s to the upper 60s, and it may rain later on. Summer doesn't officially begin until early next week; hopefully this last week of spring will be the last we see of this type of weather for a while.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 13, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Mostly cloudy best describes today's weather. The sun peeked out for a while at lunchtime, but is in the process of being re-covered by clouds. It feels a little cooler out, too. Saturday's weather was perfect, which was fortunate, since there were several area activities that day. Sunday was okay for most of the day, though there was a few minutes of heavy rainfall in the afternoon. It also rained late last night and early this morning. The forecast is predicting rain later in the week, but it may clear up for the next couple of days.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, June 10, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's beautiful! Despite being overcast this morning, the clouds parted and the sun is now shining. It feels like it's easily in the 70s outside. A Lewiston resident reported similar weather, except with a huge black cloud headed their way. If the cloud is moving upriver, we may see it later today, too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, June 9, 2011

1:10 p.m. in Orofino-The sun shone for a while this morning, but is now long gone. Rainfall is likely to begin at any moment. The river crested yesterday, but didn't have much impact on the area.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-The Clearwater River is expected to rise above flood stage today (flood stage is 17 feet, the river is predicted to reach 17.8 feet). The weather continues to be cloudy and rainy. Yesterday evening the clouds parted for a while and the sun came out, but then the wind kicked in and it poured rain. The weekend's weather mentions a slight chance of showers, so it's hard to know when nicer weather might return.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, June 7, 2011

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been as expected - overcast, dreary, and rainy. It is a bit warmer out, with highs in the 70s. We are in another flood watch, which lasts until tomorrow. It is expected to be the last one of the season, so long as another huge rainstorm doesn't occur.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 6, 2011

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend, unlike today, was rain-free. Sunday was overcast at times, and humid. Today it has rained sporadically and been overcast more than it has been sunny, though warmer than last week. Similar weather expected for the rest of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, June 3, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-At last, a perfect day! It's not hot, not cold - not even humid. It's partly cloudy out, but the clouds seem to be keeping their distance and allowing sunshine and a light breeze to sweep through Orofino. The high is about 70. This weekend is supposed to be even warmer. Unfortunately, crummy weather is predicted to return next week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, June 2, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-"Rain, rain, go away!" seems to be the stance of most people in Orofino, but for today, at least, the rain isn't heeding their wishes. It has been pouring since this morning, and shows no signs of stopping. The weekend forecast remains hopeful, with temperatures in the 80s and, best of all, no rain!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Sunshine and warmer temperatures are predicted to return, but not until the weekend. Until then, we're to expect more weather like today's - cloudy, overcast, and cooler, with rain likely.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-We've again had both sun and rain today, though it hasn't rained since early this morning. Memorial Day was also a mixed bag - Saturday and Monday alternated between sunny and cloudy, but were rain-free. Sunday it was sunny until afternoon, whereupon it clouded up and, at about 3:30, began to pour rain.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 27, 2011

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been all over the map: sunshine, downpours, wind, and moments where it's just overcast, as it is now. The forecast continues to predict rain for the entire weekend. Hopefully we'll be lucky and get some sunshine for at least one day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, May 26, 2011

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday's sunshine faded to clouds, and at night, into a massive downpour that included strong winds. Today it's mostly cloudy, with a few minutes here and there of sunlight. More rain is expected.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

11:15 a.m. in Orofino-It's sunny out today. Enjoy it, as the entire weekend looks to be colder and rainy, with the high at about 60 and lows in the 40s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-This week's predictions of rain may prove accurate after all, as today it's rainy and dreary. The temperatures feel like they're in the 60s, instead of the 80s, as they have been. The river is rising again, too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 23, 2011

5:00 p.m. in Orofino-A beautiful, sunny Monday greeted Orofino residents. Saturday was beautiful for most of the day, but clouds closed in for a few hours beginning in the late afternoon. Sunday was sunny in the morning, then cloudy for most of the day. The weather forecast continues to predict rain showers (except Wednesday), as it did last week, but in Orofino saw almost none.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 20, 2011

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today began beautifully, but by early afternoon the looming clouds rolled in. There may be some rain, and perhaps a thunderstorm, though just rain seems more likely at this point. It's a little stuffy out, in spite of the light wind.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, May 19, 2011

2:20 p.m. in Orofino-It's beautiful in Orofino - sunny, clear, and only slightly windy. Rain continues to be the prediction for the rest of the week. Right now, that's hard to imagine, but it can't be ruled out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

11:30 a.m. in Orofino-Today began mostly cloudy, but at the moment is mostly sunny. It may alternate between the two for the rest of the day; it can be difficult to tell, as the weather remains fairly fickle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Much of today has been sunny, but this afternoon clouds moved in and have been hiding the sun and threatening to rain. So far, it hasn't actually rained, though the forecast claims it will.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 16, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday's big storm seemed to have no effect whatsoever on Orofino, excluding maybe an hour of heavier than normal winds in the evening. Otherwise, it was sunny and hot - perfect weather for the well-attended LoggerXross at the park. Sunday was another matter. It was sunny until about 11 a.m.; then clouds moved in and torrents of rain poured until evening. After that it remained overcast Today it started out overcast and dreary. A little while ago the sun began emerging intermittently from behind the cloud cover. Rain is predicted for the rest of the week, and the Clearwater River is expected to reach flood stage this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 13, 2011

1:00 p.m. in Orofino-Friday the thirteenth has been mostly nice, in terms of weather. Right now it's sunny, warm, and mostly clear - and constantly so, unlike yesterday. Enjoy it now, since weather reports indicate plenty of rain (and perhaps wind and hail) for the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, May 12, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Fickle is the word to describe today's weather. One moment it's sunny, the next it's pouring rain, and there are moments where it's cloudy and bright, and cloudy and dark. Right now it's the latter, with some wind. Last night some strong winds whipped through the area. Severe storm warning reports have come in, warning of destructive wind, flooding, and even tornados, as well as rain and thunderstorms. It is unclear how much of this will hit Clearwater County, though the forecast is now saying showers are likely.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Two beautiful weekdays in a row - we're getting spoiled! Rain and possible thunderstorms are supposed to return as early as Saturday night, but there's no sense worrying about that when the weather today is so perfect. It's sunny, clear, there's a very gentle breeze, and the high is supposed to be about 78 degrees.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

3:40 p.m. in Orofino-At last, a perfect spring day. This morning it was unclear whether that would be the case, as it was cool out and partly cloudy, with looming rain clouds. Now it is sunny and beautiful, and neither warm nor cold.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 9, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today it has been dark and rainy, though this afternoon it's brighter out than it was this morning. Saturday there were a few hours of sunshine, but otherwise it was overcast and occasionally rainy. Clear weather is predicted for Tuesday and Wednesday. After that, it may return to weather similar to today's.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, May 6, 2011

1:00 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday the clouds parted for a while, revealing some much-welcome sunshine. Today the weather is the same, overcast (and even a bit windy). Even so, it's been bright out. Rain clouds are looming, of course.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, May 5, 2011

1:50 p.m. in Orofino-As expected, today is overcast, and it looks like it may rain this evening, if not sooner. The temperature is pleasant, though - it'd be a great day to take a nice long walk (assuming you escaped the rain, of course!).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

11:50 a.m. in Orofino-It's a weekday and we have sunshine! Good thing, since the weather forecast is predicting rain for the rest of the week, including the weekend. The chance on some days is just 20 or 30 percent, though. Highs are supposed in be in the 60s and lows in the 40s for the next few days.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today's another windy, rainy day in Orofino. There have been moments of sunshine, but they are few and far between.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, May 2, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend - especially Sunday - was beautiful and rain-free. Monday began overcast but bright. This afternoon it's getting darker as rain clouds move in. Studded snow tires were required by law to come off Idaho vehicles May 1 (Sunday), so hopefully the snow is done until this winter.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 29, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Wind, rain, and cold are in abundant supply today in Orofino. Sunday is supposed to be only partly cloudy and otherwise pleasant, but the days on either side of it are predicted to be like today - cold and rainy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, April 28, 2011

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-So far, today has been the opposite of yesterday. Instead of starting out sunny, becoming cloudy, and eventually pouring rain, it began with a downpour and is now bright and sunny. The Clearwater Career Fair began at 10 a.m. this morning in the city park, so the first few groups of students (from nearby towns) had to endure heavy rain showers. Orofino's students, who mostly came later, were able to enjoy the fair without getting soaked.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

11:30 a.m. in Orofino-This morning began as one would hope for a day in late April: sunny, warm, just a few clouds, and temperatures in the 60s. By late morning clouds moved in, and it's looking more and more like rain will return. Rain is also predicted until Sunday, when it is supposed to be sunny with highs in the 60s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-So far today it's been cloudy as well as sunny, and windy, but thankfully, no rain. It's pleasantly brisk out, particularly when the wind blows, and is just warm enough to make one yearn for summer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 25, 2011

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-A perfect, sunny, beautiful spring weekend preceded another day of dreary downpours. Spring may be here, but it remains fairly intermittent.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 22, 2011

5:30 p.m. in Orofino-After this morning it hasn't rained; however, residents who live at higher elevations reported receiving as much as four inches of snow. Otherwise, today's weather is similar to what we've experienced in the last two days.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, April 21, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather is similar to yesterday's: overcast but bright, and pleasantly cool. It has rained already today, and been windy. Yesterday the rain hit later in the day, and today a similar trend is expected.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

11:30 a.m. in Orofino-Folks in Orofino continue to wonder if pleasant weather will ever stay for more than a day at a time. It's overcast and cool out again today, and the forecast calls for more rain for most of the week, and even snow tomorrow. Last year at this time the temperatures were as high as 77, though the lows were about the same.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Though yesterday's slight chill remains today, it's been sunny and only partly cloudy all day long. A reprieve from the rain, which is expected to return this week, is most welcome.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 18, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-It hasn't snowed in downtown Orofino today, but there are again reports of it higher up. We've had sun, rain, and clouds all day in Orofino, and it's been windy and cooler out. Saturday it was muggy out, with rainstorms off and on. Sunday there was some wind, but not much rain.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 15, 2011

2:10 p.m. in Orofino-Today is more of the same: clouds and rain, with moments of sunshine. Yesterday evening brought gentler weather than we experienced during the day; including some sunshine.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, April 14, 2011

2:55 p.m. in Orofino-Several downpours have drenched Orofino today, but there are rain-free periods between them. It's been cooler out the last couple of days, too, with highs in the fifties instead of the sixties. Last night it didn't snow in downtown Orofino, but higher up there were reports of snow yesterday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

11:30 p.m. in Orofino-As predicted, dreary weather has returned in full force. It's been raining off and on all morning, and will likely continue to do so all day. Tonight, there's even a possibility of rain/snow mix.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-We have sunshine! All day long it has been sunny and clear, with only a few clouds. There's a brisk breeze from time to time and the high is in the sixties. For the rest of the week, more rain is predicted!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 11, 2011

3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Rain held off over the weekend, then poured first thing Monday. The downpour only lasted until lunchtime; then, the clouds parted and the sun has been out off and on since. Similar weather is expected for the rest of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 8, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today the weather has ranged from mostly cloudy to mostly sunny. So far, there's been very little rain at all, which is fortunate, considering how high the rivers and streams are. There have been three landslides in the area in the last week. One took out part of Dent Bridge Road, which will be closed indefinitely.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, April 7, 2011

4:45 p.m. in Orofino-We've had plenty of sunshine today, with the exception of a couple hours at lunchtime. It's definitely cooler out today. Higher up, some folks have reported receiving a few inches of snow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-With the exception of a few minutes in the early afternoon yesterday, it didn't rain until night. Today it has again been pouring sheets of rain. Snow is predicted tomorrow for higher elevations.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 5, 2011

2:15 p.m. in Orofino-This morning we had some beautiful sunshine, but by this afternoon the rain clouds moved in. It's also been windy all day. More residences in Orofino have experienced some flooding in their yards. Orofino Creek, while not as high as it was Saturday, is higher than it was yesterday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, April 4, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Friday's gorgeous weather didn't last. There were moments of sunshine Saturday, but they were tempered by a roaring wind and flooding. There was a landslide on Harmony Heights Road, and a few Orofino homes had to be sandbagged. Today, the rain continues - sheets of it hammering the town almost nonstop. Higher up there have been reports of snow. Dworshak Reservoir is releasing water into the river to prepare for mountain runoff, so the river and streams in the area have even more water to contend with.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, April 1, 2011

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-April Fool's Day brings with it some much-needed sunshine! It's been partly to mostly sunny all day, with highs near 60. This welcome break from the downpour is, according to weather reports, coming to an end this weekend, when more rain is expected to return.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, March 31, 2011

2:15 p.m. in Orofino-Continued rainfall is blanketing downtown Orofino. There was a break for a few hours yesterday, but today it has again been pouring, almost nonstop. Higher elevations have received a bit of snow this week. Most folks are more than ready for more sunshine!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

11:50 a.m. in Orofino-The downpour continued nonstop through the night and into this morning, again with no indication that the sheets of heavy rainfall will be letting up. If you step outside in downtown Orofino today, prepare to be drenched!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Rain has poured nonstop all day today, and it shows no signs of stopping. It's slightly cooler out today, too. Similar, though slightly warmer, weather is expected for the remainder of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 25, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-This morning it poured rain. Since then it has alternately been cloudy and sunny, with a light breeze and highs in the 50s. Similar weather is expected through the weekend. Saturday the high may even reach 60!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, March 24, 2011

12:30 p.m. in Orofino-It's looking to be another partly sunny, gorgeous spring day today. There's a slight breeze, and there are some clouds hanging about that may roll in later, but for now, it's the kind of day where it's difficult to sit in an office.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

11:45 a.m. in Orofino-The sun has been out for most of the day. As usual this time of year, rain is predicted, but today is also the one day this week where we might deign to expect mostly sunshine. Highs will continue to be in the 50s through the rest of the week, with lows in the upper 30s and low 40s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Unsurprisingly, we've had more rain today, but also sunshine. Tomorrow may be more sun than rain, but after that, it's back to rain showers. If the days are like today, it'll still be pretty out most of the time. Last night it was cold enough that, for a while, the rain became tiny little pinpricks of snow. It didn't stick or make any kind of impact.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 21, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-It has been raining for most of the day. This afternoon it was a complete downpour. Despite this, it's surprisingly bright out. It is now officially spring! The weekend was mostly cloudy, with rain overnight both nights.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 18, 2011

2:45 p.m. in Orofino-This morning and part of this afternoon it was sunny and bright, with mostly clear skies. At the moment it's a little darker out, as if clouds are beginning to creep in, which they did yesterday afternoon, bringing with them some rain and a bit of wind.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, March 17, 2011

1:20 p.m. in Orofino-Sunshine has returned. It rained overnight, but today it has been just partly cloudy, with plenty of beautiful sun and visible blue skies. Perhaps the rain will back off for the weekend, so everyone who's going stir crazy due to the rainy weather can get out and enjoy some sun.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

11:00 a.m. in Orofino-This morning it was very foggy and dark. Right now the sun is trying to come out, but the cloud cover remains. Highs over the week are expected to get into the 50s, and rain is predicted for the rest of the week, though the chance of it is very slight on some days.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today has been rain, rain, and more rain, with only brief reprieves between downpours. It's noticeably colder out at the moment, with a slight breeze adding to the chill. Tomorrow's weather is predicted to be similar. Nicer weather may hit later in the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, March 14, 2011

1:25 p.m. in Orofino-Partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures have comprised today's weather. There was sunshine over the weekend, as well as nighttime rain. Folks have begun removing their snow tires, as spring officially begins in less than a week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, March 11, 2011

1:22 p.m. in Orofino-We have sunshine! Despite the fact it's mostly cloudy, the sun has been out off and on all morning. It still looks like it could rain later. It is also comparatively warm out. Hopefully this weekend's weather will be more in line with today's, rather than what the weather was like a little earlier this week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, March 10, 2011

1:20 p.m. in Orofino-The weather continues to be overcast and dreary, with rain showers here and there. Unfortunately, the weather forecast has rain predicted into next week. Even during these last few cloudy days, the sun has managed to peek through for a few minutes a day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

11:20 a.m. in Orofino-When Orofino residents awoke today, they were greeted with slippery slush and cold temperatures. It's gray and overcast, and rain is expected at least through today and tomorrow. Temperatures are also predicted to warm up to the low 50s.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, February 4, 2011

12:48 p.m. in Orofino-It rained last night, and today it is a bit warmer, though not as warm as the spring-like temperatures from last week. It's overcast and wet out, and more rain will probably come today and through the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, February 3, 2011

12:30 p.m. in Orofino-The warmer weather predicted to begin doesn't seem to have hit (or the difference is insignificant). Instead of sunny and cold, as it has been this week, it is now overcast and cold. Rain is still predicted for the end of the week and into the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

11:55 a.m. in Orofino-As predicted by the weather forecast, today has turned out to be sunny and quite chilly. Last night's lows got into the upper teens. Rain is predicted to begin as early as Thursday night, though is not considered "likely" until sometime Saturday. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

3:30 p.m. in Orofino-It's clear and very cold today. Many folks are willing to endure the cold if it means they get a dose of sunshine. While the east and mid-west are hammered with winter storms, the snow in Orofino is all but gone. Right now the forecast says tomorrow's weather will be similar to today's. After that, it may warm up and begin raining.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 31, 2011

1:20 p.m. in Orofino-The rain poured on Saturday, but Sunday, though mostly cloudy, was precipitation free. It froze overnight and today it is several degrees cooler than it has been, but the sun has been out all day. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 28, 2011

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

1:45 p.m. in Orofino-Though it's overcast today, and clouds capable of producing precipitation are hovering, it hasn't rained much (so far). It's still fairly chilly out, though slightly brighter out than one might expect on an overcast day. We're getting fog at some point almost every night, and sometimes during the day. The next couple of days are predicted to be just partly cloudy, so hopefully we'll see some more sunshine!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 24, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Over the weekend, we enjoyed a few hours of sunshine both days. Sunday night it froze, and today, the downpour has resumed! It is another dreary winter day, and more and more residents are expressing their eagerness for the arrival of spring.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 21, 2011

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Rain is pouring down, and it is chilly out, if slightly warmer than yesterday. Already the downpour has rinsed much of the snow and ice off the city streets. Fog has settled in above, and right now the rain doesn't seem as though it will stop anytime soon. Similar weather is expected for the weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, January 20, 2011

1:25 p.m. in Orofino-It's started snowing again, and it's coming down pretty heavily. There was a power flicker a few minutes ago, but so far (in town at least) the power lines are holding.

1:15 p.m. in Orofino-It was cold enough last night to put frost on the windows. This morning between 10 and 11 a.m., snow showers abruptly hit and dumped half an inch to an inch of snow in town. Higher up it had already been snowing. Right now the snow is stopped. The weather forecast still predicts rain for the rest of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

11:45 a.m. in Orofino-The rain we received last night was cold and comprised of small drops, almost like very wet snow. This morning pockets of sun and blue sky have managed appeared despite the cloud cover, and it feels colder out than it's been in several days. More rain is expected later in the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

12:20 p.m. in Orofino-Fog settled over Orofino this morning, but had lifted by 10 a.m. It hasn't rained much, if at all, since yesterday, but it remains gloomy and overcast, so more rain is likely. The highs continue to be in the 40s. The Clearwater River and Orofino Creek are both fast and muddy, and significantly higher than they were last week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 17, 2011

11:50 a.m. in Orofino-The rain continues today. Orofino Creek and the Clearwater River are significantly higher, and huge puddles have been reported in many residents' yards. Rain is expected to continue at least through tomorrow. The National Weather Service is reporting a possibility of rock slides on steep terrain, and that small streams and creeks will continue to react to the downpour.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 14, 2011

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-A steady downpour has been falling since this morning, and will probably continue off and on for most of the weekend. It's gray and bland out, and warmer. The rain is washing snow out of yards as well as off roads. A trace of slush remains on Michigan Avenue; there's far less than there was yesterday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, January 13, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-We didn't get the forecasted wind, but we are experiencing the forecasted rain. Rain has been coming down all day since this morning, and will probably continue through most of the weekend. Some elevations higher up may receive snow. The National Weather Service claims there may be some ponding, but not "flooding." It is warmer out today, right around 40. The streets are slushy and uneven, and still fairly slick.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-Sometime last night it began snowing, and it has continued through this morning, ranging from flurries to something denser and more likely to stick. It's noticeably warmer today than it was yesterday. Precipitation is predicted for the next couple of days. The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory for today, though so far nothing has happened.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-The cold and sunny trend continued today in Orofino, until this afternoon. It has since become somewhat cloudy, but it's still fairly bright out. There's quite a bite in the air. Right now it's hard to believe that, later this week, temperatures are supposed to be close to 50 degrees. It will be interesting to see whether that prediction holds true.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 10, 2011

3:10 p.m. in Orofino-Snow did fall, but not until Saturday evening. About two inches fell here in town, and higher up there have been reports of six inches or more. Today it's colder out, and partly cloudy, so some sunshine is seeping through. Rain is predicted for mid-week to the end of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, January 7, 2011

1:15 p.m. in Orofino-It's overcast today, but like yesterday, warmer out than it has been. There have been a few drizzles of rain here and there, but so far no downpour. Sometime tonight the rain is predicted to begin again, and by Saturday morning become snow. Snow is also predicted for Sunday.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, January 6, 2011

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Rain drizzled a bit this morning, then became a downpour this afternoon. The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook, in effect through the weekend. Saturday the forecast says snow is likely, and more rain is expected tomorrow. Today's rain has rinsed away some snow and left slush on the roads, though not as much as the last time it snowed and rained.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

10:45 a.m. in Orofino-Overnight there was a light dusting of snow. It's overcast today, and more precipitation is expected. Later this week more rain and snow are predicted. Roads are still fairly icy in most places. On Monday ice caused a wreck right in front of the Orofino bridge.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-It's another cold, sunny day today in Orofino. The weather forecast is now calling for snow Wednesday, and freezing rain Thursday night and Friday. It may also snow on Saturday. For right now, we're enjoying the beautiful sunshine!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, January 3, 2011

3:15 p.m. in Orofino-With the new year comes more cold and some sunshine. We had a few flurries on Sunday, resulting in less than half an inch of snow accumulation. The highs have been in the twenties and lows have been in the teens. Freezing rain is predicted for the end of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 30, 2010

12:55 p.m. in Orofino-Not much more snow, if any, fell after it quit last night. This morning there were a few power flickers. At least one power line was downed last night, and another had fallen earlier in the week, resulting in complete power loss to some residents on Rudo Road. It's noticeably colder today, and the temperatures are expected to be even lower for the rest of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

8:10 p.m. in Orofino-Snow began to stick at about 2 p.m., and continued until evening, though it stopped for a while between 4 and 5 p.m. About four inches have fallen, so far, and more is likely to come.

12:15 p.m. in Orofino-The horrendous snow storm hitting this area as we speak has not been particularly hard on Orofino. It's been snowing, but it isn't sticking (with the exception of some very wet slush/snow early this morning). The flakes have ranged from fat and wet to small and delicate. For a few minutes they were coming down at quite an angle, as if a fierce wind was blowing. The storm may pick up and the snow may start sticking, but so far we haven't been hit too badly.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Rain has poured non-stop today, and we've had plenty of fog. In Pierce and Weippe it has been snowing. The National Weather Service today issued a winter storm warning that lasts through tomorrow. The warning explains that early this evening it will begin to snow, and continue to do so all night and through tomorrow. Right now it's a bit too warm to snow, but there's a definite bite to the air.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 27, 2010

1:15 p.m. in Orofino-It was a wet weekend, with snow/rain Saturday night and more rain Sunday. This morning it was foggy, and at the moment it's overcast, but not as dark out as it was earlier. Rain is predicted until the middle of the week, at which point it cools off and there's a slight chance of snow. If the prediction holds, it will be cold and clear for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 23, 2010

1:00 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday afternoon very small, wet snowflakes fell, resulting in a light dusting of less than half an inch. Today it's been mostly sunny, and so far no precipitation. It's a bit warmer out than it has been the last few days; enough to melt a tiny bit more snow from the roads.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-It's another sunny, cold day in Orofino. We've had some fog, but so far no more precipitation. The weather forecast is now predicting fog for the rest of the week, with maybe a very slight chance of rain here and there. The roads in town thaw a bit each day, but re-freeze at night, so remain quite slick. The snow that fell this past weekend remains, so it looks like we'll have a white Christmas this year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today no more snow fell. Instead, there was plenty of bright sunshine. It was also quite crisp out. Today is the shortest day of the year, so we can look forward to the days getting longer. At the moment no more snow is predicted for the rest of the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 20, 2010

2:15 p.m. in Orofino-We have snow! Saturday and Sunday nights the snow poured down. Saturday's snow was a dusting of perhaps half an inch, while Sunday's left about six inches. Today there's been no new precipitation, though the color of the clouds suggests more snow may fall. The weather forecast predicts a chance of snow tonight, but rain for the rest of the week. It's still very slick out, and if it rains we can expect another slushy mess like the one we had about a month ago.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 17, 2010

11:30 a.m. in Orofino-Enormous amounts of frost covered grass, vehicles, and buildings this morning, and still hasn't completely melted. The sun is shining brightly and the sky is blue and essentially free of clouds. Tomorrow (Saturday) rain and snow may find us.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 16, 2010

12:15 p.m. in Orofino-In Orofino today we awoke to fog and icier temperatures than we've experienced in over two weeks. Snow showers are still predicted for Saturday night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

12:15 p.m. in Orofino-There was rain this morning, but no gusts of wind. The rain has since stopped, and it's neither particularly bright nor dark out. There's a slight chance of more rain. Tomorrow it's supposed to be mostly sunny, and Saturday, with a high of 35, snow is predicted. Temperatures at this time last year were much colder, with highs in the twenties and lows in the teens, and even down to 3 or 4 degrees Fahrenheit. Lately this year we've had highs in the low forties and lows in the thirties.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

1:40 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday afternoon, some heavy fog settled over Orofino for a few hours. It had lifted by the evening. This morning it poured rain and the wind roared for a little while, causing widespread power flickers a bit after 7:00 a.m. A cold breeze continued to blow even after the strong winds backed off. It's been pouring most of the afternoon, but right now there's a beautiful, bright rainbow visible from downtown Orofino.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 13, 2010

1:55 p.m. in Orofino-It was a dark, dreary morning in Orofino today. It's lightened up a bit this afternoon, and so far today there's been no rain or snow. It absolutely poured Saturday night! We're fortunate not to be enduring the deep freeze and snow storms hitting the midwest and moving east. The weather forecast is predicting more rain this week, and possibly snow, though with highs still near forty, the latter is unlikely.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 10, 2010

1:30 p.m. in Orofino-Once this morning's heavy fog lifted, the skies cleared and the sun came out. It's a beautiful day in Orofino! It poured rain overnight, and more rain and snow are predicted for this weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 9, 2010

3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Slightly warmer temperatures and an overcast sky are the extent of Orofino's weather today. It rained overnight and may rain again tonight, from the looks of it. It predicts winds of 15 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

11:15 a.m. in Orofino-The rain is falling, as predicted, and there are wisps of fog hovering here and there. It's a bit warmer out today - otherwise we'd have rain instead of snow - but still fairly brisk. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather warning for the next few days, predicting heavy snowfall for the Highway 11 area near Pierce and Weippe. Following that, the warning describes gusts of wind that will throw snow onto the road and make vehicle travel dangerous. Friday the snow level is predicted to be at 1400 feet.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, December 7, 2010

2:15 p.m. in Orofino-It's cool and clear out, today. Some folks found it to be a bit warmer out, while others didn't agree. There's been not a drop of precipitation in Orofino in a couple of days, but there's plenty of ice left. The snow is slowly disappearing. The weather forecast continues to insist it will rain later in the week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, December 6, 2010

2:35 p.m. in Orofino-Over the weekend it was sunny and beautiful. Today it's overcast and COLD, but there's been no rain or snow (at our elevation, at least). Later in the week it's supposed to warm up, and start raining.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday, December 3, 2010

3:50 p.m. in Orofino-The sun is out today, and we haven't had any precipitation. Today's beautiful weather would have been helpful yesterday, during the Christmas Light Parade and Tree Lightning Ceremony, which took place in the pouring rain. The weather forecast now predicts a very slight chance of snow or rain for the next few days, after first predicting a very high chance of rain and snow. We'll have to wait and see!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, December 2, 2010

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-The snow that fell yesterday afternoon and evening was very wet. Today, it's raining, and everything is a slushy mess. Roads that were already dangerous are doubly so. More snow and rain are predicted over the next couple of days. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook in effect through part of next week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

12:00 p.m. in Orofino-Snow and a rain/snow mix fell Saturday. Sunday there wasn't much precipitation, and the temperatures have warmed up a bit, with highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s. Later in the week the highs may reach about 40. More snow and rain/snow mix are expected starting tonight, though very little snow accumulation is predicted. In some places the slush and ice are all but gone from the road, but in most areas one or the other remains.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday & Friday, November 25-26, 2010

1:30 p.m. in Orofino-It snowed on Thanksgiving Day, and highs were in the mid-twenties. Today, Friday, there's been no precipitation (so far), though the overcast sky suggests some may fall tonight. The roads continue to be quite icy. There was a fatal crash near Bonners Ferry, and a car full of Canadians rolled over north of Elmira (in Bonner County) while trying to pass. Luckily, they were wearing seatbelts and no one was seriously injured. Both accidents occurred on US95. In Orofino there have been a couple of fender benders resulting from sliding on the ice. Drivers, stay vigilant, and don't take risks when it's this icy!
