12:45 p.m. in Orofino-Wednesday night we ended up with another downpour. Thursday, it was overcast in the morning, but for a couple of hours in the afternoon the skies cleared and the sun came out, teasing with a glimpse of those perfect spring days. Then, the apocalpyse clouds moved in, and the heavy downpours resumed. It has remained warmer, though. Saturday, while there is a very slight chance of showers, the weather is supposed to be mostly sunny. Sunday, as of now, there is a 100 percent chance of rain.
Wednesday, March 5, 2014
2:55 p.m. in Orofino-It's warmer and rainy again today. Saturday it's looking like we might get some sunshine, but rain is predicted otherwise. Due to the warmer temperatures melting snow higher up, plus all the rain, the National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory, in effect through at least tomorrow morning. The advisory warns that streets and small streams in Clearwater County could experience some mild flooding and/or ponding, and that street waters might rapidly rise.
Tuesday, March 4, 2014
4:25 p.m. in Orofino-The weather was all over the place today, but it did get to at least fifty degrees. Rain is still in the forecast for the rest of the week, but so is fifty-degree weather.
Monday, March 3, 2014
4:25 p.m. in Orofino-We did get that snow over the weekend, but as has been the case of late, it didn't amount to much and mostly melted. Higher up, it was probably a different story. Today we've had rain and more rain, and it looks like we can expect that for the rest of the week. The highs this week are supposed to get up to 50 degrees, though; welcome news for those who are sick of cold weather.
Friday, February 28, 2014
12:45 p.m. in Orofino-According to the forecast, we're still likely to get snow this weekend, but the amount we'll get has decreased. It'll be a little bit cooler than the weather we've had lately, but not the single-digit lows from earlier in the year. Today it's rainy, foggy, and altogether dreary out in downtown Orofino. Overnight we got maybe half an inch of very wet snow, most of which has melted in the rain.
Thursday, February 27, 2014
5:15 p.m. in Orofino-Rain and a chilly, semi-strong wind have comprised most of today's weather in downtown Orofino. Tomorrow we can export more rain. The chance for snow on the weekend has increased again, so is looking pretty likely. The accumulation (downtown) could range from one inch to about four inches. Sunday will be a bit chillier than the last couple of weeks, with a high right around freezing a low of about 19 degrees.
Wednesday, February 26, 2014
2:40 p.m. in Orofino-We did get that sunshine today, and it got up to about 50 degrees outside. The tops of the hills surrounding downtown Orofino are still dusted with snow. Unfortunately, tomorrow and Friday are looking pretty likely for rain (those higher up may see snow). The chance of snow or rain for the weekend has ticked up a bit, but remains below 50% (at this time, at least).
Tuesday, February 25, 2014
3:32 p.m. in Orofino-We've enjoyed a couple hours of sunshine this afternoon, but it is fading fast. It was surprisingly brisk out today when the sun wasn't shining down. Daylight Saving Time is a week from Sunday (believe it or not!), so while losing that hour of sleep Saturday night is no fun, we'll get to have lighter and lighter nights for the next three or so months. It still looks like we could get sun tomorrow as well, but after that it appears the rain will return.
Monday, February 24, 2014
4:12 p.m. in Orofino-We had an odd mix of rain and snow over the weekend, particularly Saturday night through Sunday night. This morning, huge snowflakes began falling, accompanying thick fog. Places higher up got several inches of snow, but downtown the snow was so wet that it didn't last long. Right now it is pouring rain, and the downpour is expected to last through the night. The forecast for this week includes varying chances of rain. Wednesday we might even see some sunshine. As the week unfolds, we will, as always, see which prove true!
Friday, February 21, 2014
1:38 p.m. in Orofino-Rain and snow are still in the forecast for this weekend and into next week. The National Weather Service is predicting that some parts of western Montana and central Idaho could see significant snowfall, but at this time, it appears downtown Orofino will not be among the areas hit.
Thursday, February 20, 2014
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-The weather hasn't been as all over the place today. We did wake up to snow, but less, and it was even wetter, so is long gone. We have had it rain, and we did get a few minutes of sunshine. The "cycle" hasn't been repeating over and over, like it did yesterday. The forecast continues to predict snow/rain, though the chance we'll get it goes up and down, depending on the day. Tonight there's a 90% chance.
Wednesday, Febraury 19, 2014
3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today we've had all four seasons in the same day. Every once in a while we get a day like this. We awoke to somewhat heavy snowfall, and the snow was sticking. By mid-morning it had warmed up enough that the snow became rain. It switched to hail for a while, then we got some sunshine, then a downpour. At the moment we've got more sunshine. Days like today fit well with the phrase most long-time Idahoans have heard about Idaho's weather: "If you don't like the weather in Idaho, wait five minutes and it will change."
Tuesday, February 18, 2014
3:12 p.m. in Orofino-Aside from a few minutes of sunshine this afternoon, it has been overcast out today. Finally it began raining a little while ago. This kind of weather is still predicted for the rest of the week. There is mention of snow as well, and the predicted highs have come down to the low 40s to high 30s. Too warm for snow during the day, but we could, in theory, get some at night. It will probably be a mix.
Monday, February 17, 2014
4:40 p.m. in Orofino-Rain and snow continue to be in our forecast. Sunday we enjoyed a few hours of sunshine, interspersed with plenty of rain. At the moment there is a downpour outside. The highs this week are predicted to be about the same as last week - mid to low 40s - with lows in the 30s. If the highs stay in the 40s we are more likely to get rain than snow.
Friday, February 14, 2014
4:05 p.m. in Orofino-There was no sunny warmth today - this morning we awoke to about half an inch of very wet snow (which has since melted), eventually followed by intermittent rain showers. Higher elevations undoubtedly saw even more snow. Rain is in the forecast well into next week, with highs in the low 40s and lows in the low 30s.
Thursday, February 13, 2014
4:25 p.m. in Orofino-Overnight we received quite the downpour, but today, like yesterday, was sunny and almost spring-like. Compared with the east, we are fairly fortunate!
Wednesday, February 12, 2014
4:25 p.m. in Orofino-Today it felt like the temperature got into the 50s, though the forecast says the high was in the mid-40s. Rain clouds were ever present, but we enjoyed bright sunshine for much of the day. The "high winds" weren't bad at all. Tonight there's a 80 percent chance of rain, and tomorrow there is a 60 percent chance. Rain is predicted through the weekend, but if we get some mostly cloudy days that feature hours of sunshine, maybe it won't be so bad!
Tuesday, February 11, 2014
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Though it is pretty wet out, we enjoyed some very bright, wonderful sunshine today in downtown Orofino. And at 5 p.m., it is not pitch black out. Most folks are undoubtedly eager for the early nights to end. Tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service, we'll be getting rain and high winds (in the 21 mph range, so not as high as some have been!). The high should be in the mid-40s, with the low in the mid-30s.
Monday February 10, 2014
4:30 p.m. in Orofino-We got some snow over the weekend (as predicted). Today it warmed up and some of the thinner areas melted. The forecast is now predicting rain for downtown Orofino; folks higher up may be stuck with more snow. At least it's warmer, and with any luck, the single-digit lows are behind us until next winter.
Friday, February 7, 2014
12:17 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was bright and sunny, almost enough that it distracted from how cold it's been this week. Last night it snowed. It's looking likely we'll get more over the weekend (anywhere from 2 inches to 4 or five, depending on which forecast you consult), and that it will rain early next week. Today is the last day for the single-digit lows, though, as the weather will be getting incrementally warmer going into next week.
Wednesday, February 5, 2014
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The National Weather Service is now fairly certain we'll see at least a little snow, beginning as early as Thursday night. The chance of snow remains through Sunday (so far). "Warmer" temperatures are also still coming, if we can endure today, tomorrow, and Friday. Tonight's low will be about 1 degree. Tomorrow's will be about 7 degrees. IF we get snow tomorrow night, it should amount to about an inch.
Tuesday, February 4, 2014
4:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today has been cold, and it's only going to get worse! Tonight the low will be a whopping 4 degrees. Tomorrow the low is supposed to be about 1 degree, and the high will be 17 degrees. Thursday may be incrementally warmer, as should Friday. The real killer is that the wind chill for a couple days this week will be -13 degrees. The forecast is also predicting that snow is likely for Saturday night. That means it will warmer than the weekdays (if that's any consolation - to some it may not be!).
Monday, February 3, 2014
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend's weather was a mixed bag. There were a few hours of beautiful sunshine, but it rained and snowed Sunday. There's about a 50 percent chance of snow tonight. After that, is supposed to be sunny, but also very cold; at least as cold as it got in December, with lows near zero degrees, beginning tomorrow. Fortunately, it'll warm up (so to speak) again on the weekend, and by next week it should be back to highs in the 30s/40s instead of under 20 degrees.
Friday, January 31, 2014
11:45 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday we had some rain off and on. This morning more snow fell, but it was very wet, and turned to rain later in the morning. It looks like a little more rain/snow may fall Saturday and Monday, but Super Bowl Sunday we may merely get sun and clouds. Tuesday the sun may return, bringing with it a chilly high of 31 degrees.
Wednesday, January 29, 2014
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Last night's "freezing rain" turned out to be wet snow - about 2-3 inches. Much of it has melted, but not all. Gutters in town are full of deep slush and water. It sounds like we may get more rain and/or snow tonight and tomorrow.
Tuesday, January 28, 2014
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-We saw a bit of snow earlier this afternoon. It amounted to nothing and didn't last long, but the forecast predicts a 90% chance of freezing rain tonight. Rain is also in the forecast for the rest of the week. It is more likely to occur Wednesday and Thursday, and less likely to on Friday (compared with what the forecast said yesterday). Either way, expect precipitation for the next couple of days.
Monday, January 27, 2014
4:30 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend's weather was pretty decent. Today it is back to being overcast, and the high hills around Orofino have a dusting of snow. The forecast for this week mentions a lot of rain. Tuesday it is pretty likely, but (so far) the other days mention a 40% chance. We will see how the forecast emerges as the week continues.
Friday, January 24, 2014
10:57 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was overcast again, but today we finally have the sunshine promised by the forecast. The temperature has gone below freezing, but not far enough that vehicles are coated in frost. Today the high will only be just above freezing. Over the weekend and through Monday it should get close to 40 degrees. Beginning Tuesday we could see some rain showers, but it's hard to say at this point how likely they are to hit.
Wednesday, January 22, 2014
5:30 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast dropped the ball on today's weather! It was nothing too dramatic, but instead of fog and sunshine, we had an overcast day with fog. There were also very, very light snow flurries for a bit this morning. The forecast continues to insist we'll have sun and fog.
Tuesday, January 21, 2014
2:55 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather is about like yesterday's - sunny and clear, but brisk out. The forecast for the rest of the week hasn't changed much, except to mention even more fog, which will be around until at least Saturday. The highs will be in the low 40s, and lows will be in the low 30s to upper 20s.
Monday, January 20, 2014
4:40 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was pretty nice, for the most part. It was wet out instead of frosty out this morning, so perhaps some rain fell overnight - or last night it didn't dip below freezing. Today it was sunny and mostly clear, but also a little chilly. Right now the forecast is predicting partly to mostly sunny skies for this week, and no mention of rain. The temperatures will be about what they have been the last couple of weeks.
Friday, January 17, 2014
1:48 p.m. in Orofino-The evenings have turned pretty frosty, but today it's sunny and clear. The high will be about 42 degrees. We can look forward to sunshine through the weekend and into early next weeks. Some days will have mostly clear skies, while others may have clouds, but at the moment there's no mention of rain (through Tuesday).
Wednesday, January 15, 2014
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-The days may feel less wintery, but the nights don't! Not last night, at any rate. The forecast hasn't really changed since yesterday - sunny for the rest of the week, with highs around 40 degrees and lows slightly below freezing. The slight chance of rain predicted for the very end of the week has been changed to "mostly sunny."
Tuesday, January 14, 2014
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today has been a mix of overcast and sunny, and the air lacks a winter chill - it feels more like an early spring chill. We can look forward to similar weather for the rest of the week, according to the forecast.
Monday, January 13, 2014
4:25 p.m. in Orofino-The wind we got in Orofino was mercifully brief. It lasted about an hour late Saturday morning, and a few hours early Sunday morning. Today it's been mostly cloudy, with bits of sunshine here and there. It also feels warmer out (though certainly not "warm"). It looks like the rest of the week could bring sunshine, along with some fog. Highs will continue to be around 40, give or a take a couple of degrees. The lows are likely going to start dropping below freezing, but will stay in the high 20s.
Friday, January 10, 2014
3:10 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino's specific forecast now does mention high winds, so there probably will be some. They don't sound as bad as the more generalized forecast suggests (at least for our area). Specifically, the forecast (which also predicts rain) reads that daytime south winds will be 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Saturday night the winds are predicted to be 17 mph, west southwest, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Sunday could have 10 mph winds. Highs will be on either side of 40, and lows a little above freezing.
Thursday, January 9, 2014
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-The wind watch hasn't changed from yesterday. Though it mentions our approximate area, the forecast specific to Orofino doesn't have a word about wind, where as Grangeville's does. As is often the case with the weather, we won't know until/if it happens! Today started out mostly cloudy, with some occasional sunshine. Later it became overcast and hailed, and when that stopped, it fractionally brightened out. All the rain has melted a fair portion of the snow and ice, but the larger piles of it still remain. There's a 50% chance of more rain today and tonight. The chance goes up to 80% tomorrow, and 90% Saturday.
Wednesday, January 8, 2014
4:55 p.m. in Orofino-We got maybe a quarter inch of snow overnight. Today it melted, in part do to the temperature, and in part due to the continued precipitation in the form of rain. It's looking like we can still expect rain for the rest of the week. The National Weather Service has a wind storm warning in effect that begins Friday night or Saturday morning, and could bring winds from 30 to 50 miles per hour, with gusts up to 60 miles per hour. Grangeville will likely be hit hardest, but we may see some, too. Read the full report at http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=IDZ007&warncounty=IDC035&firewxzone=IDZ102&local_place1=&product1=High+Wind+Watch#.Us3wAfuCUUU.
Tuesday, January 7, 2014
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-SO FAR, today, it hasn't rained, but it has been overcast. The freezing rain was originaly predicted to start tomorrow. Now, it is predicted to start tonight and continue tomorrow. It also looks like rain is in the forecast for the rest of the week. After today the highs will be around 40 degrees, and lows will be just above freezing.
Monday, January 6, 2014
4:30 p.m. in Orofino-The weekend was sunny, and it was for most of today as well. The middle of the week, however, is supposed to bring "freezing rain," along with highs just under 40 and lows right around freezing. Today, while sunny, was also pretty chilly. Regular rain is predicted for tomorrow.
Friday, January 3, 2014
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-This morning we got to enjoy sunshine for a while, but by this afternoon it went overcast, and dark enough that it could rain or snow. The chance of precipitation is about 30%, so we'll see. It was almost vaguely warmish out, too, except for a chilly light wind. The weekend still looks to bring sunshine.
Thursday, January 2, 2014
2:50 p.m. in Orofino-There was sunshine, briefly, on New Year's Day. It didn't rain, at least. Today it's been overcast and dreary. There's a decent chance of rain tonight and tomorrow, but the weekend looks to bring a little sunshine, and probably no rain. The weekend will also be a little cooler, with highs closer to (but still above) freezing, and lows in the low twenties.
Tuesday, December 31, 2013
4:12 p.m. in Orofino-Well, last night it did start raining, and stayed raining for a while. Today it's foggy and overcast, and very wet out. The ice has turned to dreaded slush! We may get more rain tonight. New Year's Day looks to be cloudy and foggy, but not rainy. Thursday night the rain is likely to return, and continue through Friday. Saturday and Sunday we may get a little sunshine.
Monday, December 30, 2013
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-The weekend was mostly cloudy, but it didn't rain. It didn't rain Friday, either. Today it has also been overcast, but again, nothing much in the way of precipitation. It's looking like we'll get rain at some point this week, possibly as early as tomorrow evening. Higher up there is a winter storm warning in effect.
Friday, December 27, 2013
1:40 p.m. in Orofino-We had sun this morning in downtown Orofino, but this afternoon it has become mostly cloudy. Tonight there is a 50% chance of scattered showers. Since the lows continue to be below freezing, if it does rain, we can expect fresh ice with which to contend. Saturday there's a slight chance of showers, but Sunday looks clear. Monday and Tuesday may bring more rain, but it is hard to say, as the chance, at the moment, is pretty small.
Thursday, December 26, 2013
10:35 a.m. in Orofino-The weather has continued to be sunny and cold (though not as cold as that deep freeze earlier this month). Some melting continues to occur where the sun can hit during the day. This time of year, the sun isn't out long enough to hit everywhere, so there are many roads, sidewalks, and parking lots where there remains very slick icy spots. And in the mornings and evenings, even thawed roads frost over a bit, and some tire skidding can occur if one tries to floor the gas pedal. We can expect similar weather for the rest of the week.
Tuesday, December 24, 2013
3:05 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday evening's weather became a bit bizarre. It hailed, and we had thunder and lightning. It also froze pretty solidly overnight, and the hail was stuck to people's vehicles. This made it look like everyone's vehicle had grown white spores. Today, where the sun was able to hit, some melting occurred, but where the sun didn't hit, things remain very icy. The frozen snow and slush are hard as a rock in these areas, too. It looks like we'll have similar weather tomorrow - it will be sunny, at least!
Monday, December 23, 2013
2:40 p.m. in Orofino-Friday we received four and a half inches, and early Saturday morning we received another three inches. Saturday it warmed up a few degrees, and between that and the rain, we saw some snow melt. Today it's been raining off and on, too. Yards are still full of inches of wet snow, gutters are full of slush, and well-plowed roads are mostly (but not entirely) bare. Roads that were not plowed are a slushly mess. Today and tonight are supposed to stay rainy, but tomorrow and Christmas Day still look to be sunny.
Friday, December 20, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The flurries started between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m. this morning, and the snow's intensity gradually increased. We are pushing two inches right now, and if it keeps falling at this rate all night, we'll have a few more inches by tomorrow morning. Saturday there's a chance of rain and/or snow, still. There's a 50% chance of rain Sunday and Monday. The forecast for Christmas Day, right now, is mostly sunny.
Thursday, December 19, 2013
4:40 p.m. in Orofino-It sounds like snow this week is a given, starting tomorrow. From what the forecast is predicting, we can expect a minimum of five inches tomorrow during the day and overnight. Saturday and Sunday there's a 50 percent chance of rain. If that pans out, we'll have a real mess here. Folks who like a white Christmas should be happy - perhaps less so if they have holiday travel plans. If you're going anywhere tomorrow or Saturday morning, be careful!
Wednesday, December 18, 2013
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino's forecast has fluctuated again, and this time it could mean more snow. We're still scheduled to (maybe) receive 3 to 5 inches of snow Friday during the day, but we may also get another 3 to 7 inches overnight Friday. Yesterday the forecast was predicting rain for Friday night, but we've been put on a winter storm watch by the National Weather Service. The chance of precipitation Friday is about 90 percent. Tomorrow we have a small chance of snow flurries, with a high of 33 and a low of 23. Tonight there's an 80 percent chance of rain or snow. So far, nothing has happened. The clouds directly over us have been too light for precipitation, but some darker ones were looming upriver, so who knows?
Tuesday, December 17, 2013
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-Today was mostly cloudy, but with some sunshine in the morning and afternoon. It was a little colder last night, but no where near the lows from a couple of weeks ago. It is still looking like rain tomorrow, and snow for Thursday night and Friday. The highs will be in the mid-thirties on up to about 40.
Monday, December 16, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was partly sunny to mostly cloudy, as predicted. Nothing really happened in terms of precipitation, but starting Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, that will change. We are supposed to get rain Wednesday, and snow and rain Friday. Thursday, as of now, there is a tiny chance of snow during the day, and probable flurries in the evening. The temperatures will be bearable - the lowest low should be in the 20s.
Friday, December 13, 2013
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-We did finally get some snow last night - about three inches. But as soon as the temperature got above freezing this morning, it began to rain. The snow we did get was pretty wet - great for making snowmen and forts. Now that it's been rained on for hours, it might be a bit messy even for that. There's a slight chance of showers Saturday. After that, it looks like the precipitation could back off for a few days.
Thursday, December 12, 2013
4:05 p.m. in Orofino-It has been mostly overcast today in Orofino. So far, there hasn't been any precipitation, as was predicted earlier in the week. The forecast is calling for rain/snow sometime tonight. Tomorrow there's about a 50% chance of showers. Saturday there's a small chance of rain, and Sunday looks to be partly cloudy, with no precipitation. Many people around town are joking about the "heat wave" we're experiencing, i.e. temperatures above freezing. We'll even get back into the low 40s by the end of the week.
Wednesday, December 11, 2013
5:01 p.m. in Orofino-Today Orofino's high temperature was above freezing, and we also enjoyed some sunshine today. Between the two, enough and snow ice melted that we can see pavement again on the city streets. The low tonight is "only" supposed to be in the mid-twenties. The highs will continue to be above freezing for the rest of the week. Tomorrow, it looks like we can still expect rain and snow. There was some slush on the roads today as a result of the higher temperatures. It wasn't tons, but it was enough that if you drove on it, you could feel how slick it was in areas where it was thick. We will probably see even more tomorrow.
Tuesday, December 10, 2013
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-The temperature is a tiny bit warmer today, but still below 30 degrees. We received another inch or two of snow overnight and this morning. The forecast, at the moment, predicts we won't see further precipitation until Thursday. There will be a slight chance of rain during the day, and good chance of snow Thursday night. Friday there is also a good chance of rain. If it does snow Thursday night, the roads could get pretty slushy, and in that state they can be worse than ice.
Monday, December 9, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Downtown Orofino got its first significant snowfall today (significant as in more than half an inch). It ended up being about six inches, give or take. The National Weather Service predicts that Orofino MIGHT get another couple of inches tonight. We may also see snow tomorrow. There are some suspicious-looking clouds outside at the moment, but they seem to be over the Pierce/Weippe area. They could, of course, drift this way. The same forecast predicts Pierce could see another two to five inches by tomorrow. It is still cold out, but it's definitely warmer than it was last week, and over the weekend, where the low was about zero degrees (Farenheit). The forecast says the highs this week will creep into the high 30s, at which point we could get rain. Should make for a slushy mess!
Friday, December 6, 2013
3:05 p.m. in Orofino-Make it through this weekend, haters of the single digit lows, and warmer weather is in store! The highs will get back into the upper twenties come Monday, and into the thirties for the rest of the week (according to the forecast). The low temperature for Saturday is now zero degrees, and that is Farenheit! A five-minute stroll outside will have one's face feeling numb today. There's a very slight chance of snow tonight; so slight it probably won't amount to anything. Next week, along with the "warmer" weather, come more chances of snow. So far, they are all slight.
Thursday, December 5, 2013
4:45 p.m. in Orofino-The low for Saturday is now predicted as 1 degree, and Sunday's low is 2 degrees. Hang in there until next week - it's supposed to get back above single digits! Today has been clear and quite cold. Our low is supposed to be around 8 degrees. The wind chill factor with tonight's "light and variable wind" is -4 degrees, so take care if you have to be out and about tonight.
Wednesday, December 4, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Numerous complaints of "It's cold out!" have been heard around Orofino today. A log truck driver reported that at about 3 a.m. today, it was 9 degrees outside. The roads in town have not melted in many areas, and the ice is thick enough to send one sliding at random. Tomorrow the high is predicted at about 23 degrees, with a low of 11. Friday there is a 20% chance of snow showers, with a high of 19 and a low of 9 degrees. If you're planning to attend the Christmas Festival tree lighting and light parade, be sure to bundle up! Saturday, the high, at the moment, is predict as being 16 degrees, and the low is a whopping 4 degrees. Next week the highs should be back in the 20s, and by Wednesday maybe into the 30s.
Tuesday, December 3, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Snow did fall yesterday, but until night it didn't amount to much. It started out heavy, but soon backed down, and ended up alternating between heavy and flurries. But overnight, about three inches fell in downtown Orofino. It's noticeably colder today, and supposed to be even colder the rest of the week.
Monday, December 2, 2013
2:25 p.m. in Orofino-It got "darker" in the space of 10-15 minutes, and now snow is falling!
2:12 p.m. in Orofino-We had some clouds and rain over the weekend (especially Sunday). Today it's been mostly overcast, though the sun has come out a couple of times. The National Weather Service forecast is predicting a 100 percent chance of snow today or tonight, and an 80% chance for tomorrow. After that, the temperatures will begin to plummet, as that arctic cold front moves in. The snow accumulation is predicted to be less than an inch. Tomorrow it's supposed to be less than half an inch. So far in Orofino, no snow has fallen.
Friday, November 29, 2013
2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Thanksgiving Day was cold and clear, following the trend of the last several days. This morning, for the first time in a couple of weeks, car windows weren't frosted over (for the most part) in the downtown Orofino area. Perhaps this is due to the increase in humidity, as rain showers could start as early as tonight, but probably won't begin until tomorrow. The forecast is now predicting snow showers Monday night, and mentions that less than an inch of new snow is possible. With a high near 42 degrees, it seems likely we will end up with mostly the wet snow that melts quickly. IF enough falls, we could be stuck with that slushy mess that is slicker than ice, though that usually takes more than an inch. It is difficult to say. Tuesday will quite a bit colder, with a high of about 30 and a low of around 18 degrees, so any slush left will be good and crunchy (and probably icy) if the forecast holds true. Bundle up for the end of the week - Wednesday the high is predicted to be 22, with a low of 9; Thursday, the HIGH is predicted to be 19!
Wednesday, November 27, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-It's already getting quite dark out - the shortest day of the year will be here in less than a month. After that, we can look forward to the days starting to get longer again. Today's weather has been the same as the last few days' - sunny and cold. Beginning Friday there is still a slight chance of showers. The chance of rain Sunday is now listed as "likely." Monday's forecast says "rain and snow likely," with a high of 41 and a low of 26. Forty-one degrees is too warm for regular snow, but there could definitely be snow showers; or even snow during cooler parts of the day. Perhaps by Friday, the forecast will be a little more definitive.
Tuesday, November 26, 2013
4:35 p.m. in Orofino-Our sunny/frosty weather continues, and should until Friday. Beginning Friday evening, there's a slight chance of showers. Those changes to rain and snow showers early next week, though still only a slight chance. The National Weather Service mentioned that a snowier and colder pattern could be sweeping western Montana and Lehmi County in Idaho. The first news alert mentioned north central Idaho, but the second one didn't (and it was otherwise the same as the first). We'll see how it plays out. That colder pattern wouldn't hit until Sunday, if it hits at all.
Monday, November 25, 2013
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-The nights/early mornings are getting pretty frosty - it almost looks like snow on the ground. So far, there is no mention of rain until the end of the week, and right now, it's only a slight chance. By the time the end of the week arrives, it could change. Highs will mostly be in the mid-forties this week, with lows in the 20s and 30s.
Friday, November 22, 2013
3:55 p.m. in Orofino-Our cold but sunny weather continued today, and looks to continue through at least Tuesday. You'll need a warmer coat, and maybe gloves, scarves, and a hat, but you won't need a snow shovel!
Thursday, November 21, 2013
1:40 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday and today especially have been sunny and beautiful, but colder out without the cloud cover to trap some humidity. Even so, the sunshine is a real spirit booster. It looks like we will get to enjoy sunshine all through the weekend, and possibly into next week. There may be some morning fog this weekend, but after that, just the sun!
Tuesday, November 19, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Today it began raining at around lunchtime, and has continued almost nonstop. There's some fog lingering. Fortunately, tomorrow through Friday are still predcited to be sunny! Saturday and Sunday could be, too, though this early in the week it's hard to know for sure.
Monday, November 18, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend's weather wasn't as horrendous as predicted. There was some rain here and there, mostly at night. The temperatures are cool, but not yet super cold. Today has been along those same lines. There's a 100% chance of rain "late this afternoon." So far, it hasn't happened, which is not to say it won't! Tomorrow's forecast promises rain also. Wednesday through Friday look to be sunny!
Friday, November 15, 2013
9:50 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday's weather was neither perfect nor terrible. Today's brought a smidgen of rain, so far, and the forecast says to expect more. The weekend will be rainy, too, especially Saturday. Earlier in the week the lows were predicted to be in the 20s, but now they're saying in the low 30s, right around freezing. Monday looks like it could be sunny, but after that, we may be in for more rain. The National Weather Service is predicting snow for some higher elevations. For the downtown Orofino area, it is predicting less than a 1/2 inch of accumulation.
Wednesday, November 13, 2013
4:40 p.m. in Orofino-The smattering of rain yesterday afternoon came back and hung around, so the pavement was pretty wet by evening. Rain is in the forecast for the next few days, with varying chances of it happening. Saturday and Sunday it looks very likely, and Sunday there is a small chance of snow.
Tuesday, November 12, 2013
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today was mostly cloudy, with a hint of sun here and there. There was a smattering of rain earlier this afternoon. The National Weather Service has predicted that a cold front could hit western Montana and north central Idaho. Here are the details, in their own words:
“Confidence is growing that
another cold arctic weather system will impact western
1) Bitterly cold and windy
conditions: A much colder airmass will enter the region with high temperatures
only reaching into the low to mid 20s for western
2) Snow: We still have fairly
low confidence in the placement of snow and snow amounts. However, there will
likely be a period of snow which could cause area roadways to become slick,
especially over mountain passes along the Continental Divide such as
3) Waves on
We will continue to monitor this system and provide an updated email as confidence in the details develop further.

Monday, November 11, 2013
4:22 p.m. in Orofino-We had a nice autumn weekend, with some sunshine both days, and temperatures that, while cool, were not freezing. Today has been more of the same. We have a slight chance of showers predicted for the rest of the week; some days it is so slight, it may not amount to much. It is expected to cool off at the end of the week, with highs going from the mid to low 50s down to the mid 40s.
Friday, November 8, 2013
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-It rained this morning, but the precipitation hasn't done much since then. It's not TOO cold out today, either, so overall, the weather is less dreary than yesterday's. Saturday night and Sunday look rainy. Veterans Day, so far, looks to be partly sunny, with a high in the mid-50s.
Thursday, November 7, 2013
5:10 p.m. in Orofino-How's the weather? Dark, dreary, and rainy, that's how! It's the dreariest day we've had in months. Hardly a surprise, considering the time of year! Rain is still predicted for the rest of the week and into early next week. The chance of it is slightly less tomorrow and Saturday, but we'll probably see some nonetheless.
Wednesday, November 6, 2013
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-The weather today hasn't been half bad. Not great - but it wasn't snowing or pouring rain. The forecast is calling for rain for the rest of the week, for the downtown area, so again, higher elevations may see a little snow. In town the highs will remain just under 50 degrees...at least, as it stands now.
Tuesday, November 5, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-It's more snow today, only this time it's hitting downtown, too. Luckily, it isn't really sticking (so far). The tire stores were more backed up today than they were yesterday (unsurprisingly)! The forecast is currently claiming it'll start being just rain tomorrow, but we shall see. The highs are supposed to be just under 50, with lows just under 40, so if that holds, it will definitely be rain rather than snow. Higher elevations could get more snow, though.
Monday, November 4, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-The snow hath come! Downtown Orofino hasn't seen much (maybe some snow showers that were mostly mild slush), but higher places in the county, such as Pierce, received six inches. Les Schwab was swamped today with people wanting their snow tires put on. The forecast for Orofino says a rain/snow mix for tomorrow, and rain for the rest of the week. As we know, the forecast fluctuates almost daily, so we'll see how things go.
Thursday, October 31, 2013
5:27 p.m. in Orofino-Today was a dreary, overcast day, with intermittent rain. With the cloud cover and increased humidity, it didn't feel quite as chilly as one might expect, but nor was it warm. The rain seems to have backed off for the time being, which should make Trick or Treat Rocking the Street in Orofino even more enjoyable. Tomorrow still looks to be mostly sunny, and the weekend looks to be rainy.
Wednesday, October 30, 2013
5:07 p.m. in Orofino-It was colder today, but still sunny and clear. The weekend forecast has taken a turn for the worse; there is now a chance of rain both days, and the high will probably be just under 50 degrees. It's still too warm for snow (so far). Tomorrow it will be mostly cloudy, and the forecast says showers are likely in the evening. Friday, right now, looks to be mostly sunny, with a high just under 60 degrees.
Tuesday, October 29, 2013
3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today is crisp, but also sunny, and there's not a cloud in the sky. There's still a chance of showers Thursday night; and now on Saturday. The high is, at the moment, predicted to be 58 degrees that day, so it is highly unlikely it will be snow instead (unless the forecast changes, which it often does!). Otherwise, it'll be highs in the mid-50s and lows in the high 30s for most of this week. That is an improvement over what the forecast said just yesterday!
Monday, October 28, 2013
2:45 p.m. in Orofino-The weekend weather was similar to what was predicted, although the Sunday night rain didn't amount to much - just enough to make our cars filthy. Today it's been pretty windy. The beautiful gold, red, and orange tree leaves are being stripped from the trees by reoccuring gusts, and some residents' yards are going to need a lot of raking. The week's forecast says it will be mostly sunny, with a chance of rain Thursday night. Highs will range from about 45 to 56, and lows will be in the 32 to 38 range.
Friday, October 25, 2013
1:17 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast hasn't changed from what it's said earlier in the week. Yesterday, like today, was beautiful out. Over night it was pretty frosty, though! There's a 40% chance of rain Sunday night. With a predicted low of 40 degrees, it seems unlikely it will snow, but with that cold front moving in, it's hard to say for sure. Other than that, it's still going to be sunny - just 15 degrees cooler out!
Wednesday, October 23, 2013
3:55 p.m. in Orofino-It's now looking like the highs in the 60s weather will end beginning Monday, when the high is predicted to be 48 degrees. With the exception of Sunday night, which predicts a slight chance of showers, it's looking like the precipitation will hold off for most of next week. Hopefully it holds, and will result in a clear Halloween Trick or Treaters next Thursday.
Tuesday, October 22, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-According to the National Weather Service, this mid-60s weather could end as early as Sunday. Here is what their e-mail says:
EXPECTED TIMING: Forecast
models show the ridge of high pressure currently over the
POTENTIAL IMPACTS: 1) TEMPERATURES: Maximum temperatures could cool into the 30s and lower 40s by Monday. Minimum temperatures cooling into the teens by Monday night. (HIGH CONFIDENCE)

This change in the weather pattern has the potential deliver our first significant area-wide winter storm event. While forecast confidence is still rather modest in some respects, it poses enough of a significant threat that it deserves special attention.

Monday, October 21, 2013
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Other than fog, the forecast for this week is also looking great! Highs are predicted to be in the mid to upper 60s on most days, and it should be sunny all week, too.
Friday, October 18, 2013
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-It is warmer out right now than it was before noon, though with how early the sun starts going down, it won't last much longer. Even so, it's been another beautiful day, and it looks to be a beautiful weekend.
Thursday, October 17, 2013
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-It looks like the National Weather Service's track record for this week is pretty good - another clear, sunny day, with a high in the 60s. Enjoy this perfect fall weather!
Wednesday, October 16, 2013
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-We again enjoyed some sunshine today, but it didn't seem to last as long as it did yesterday. Still, it hasn't rained and the temperatures have been consistent, making for gorgeous fall weather. The forecast continues to predict that this sort of weather will continue through the week!
Tuesday, October 15, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today is following the trend of the last few days - warmer when it's sunny out (which is mid-morning to late afternoon) and chilly otherwise. There was frost early this morning, but it gets more than warm enough to melt it. The forecast still says the rest of the week will be sunny and mostly clear, and nights will get down into the thirties.
Monday, October 14, 2013
3:17 p.m. in Orofino-We did get just a few hours of sunshine in the afternoon Saturday and Sunday; we are also enjoying some today. Right now the whole rest of the week looks to be sunny, with highs in the low 60s. We'll see how that goes!
Friday, October 11, 2013
12:55 p.m. in Orofino-Once again, the forecasts prediction of "sun" is falling a little short - apparently its definition of a sunny day is a day where it is overcast, but doesn't rain? Hopefully the sun will show itself later this afternoon. Saturday still looks to be rainy here and there, but the days surrounding it, so far, look to be clear.
Thursday, October 10, 2013
3:25 p.m. in Orofino-Today hasn't been as sunny as the weather forecast suggested. It is mostly cloudy at the moment rather than completely overcast, so at least isn't dark and murky. Tomorrow it is again SUPPOSED to be sunny. Saturday looks likely to bring rain, but Sunday and Monday's forecasts are now predicting sunshine. Highs will continue to be around 60 degrees, with lows in the low 40s to upper 30s.
Wednesday, October 9, 2013
2:20 p.m. in Orofino-It was chilly again this morning, but the sun finally came out and it's turned into a pretty day. Still not warm - sweatshirt weather at least - but it's sunny and not raining. Tomorrow and Friday are still looking good for sunshine, but the weekend is not.
Tuesday, October 8, 2013
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today is definitely chillier, and we've had downpours off and on since early this afternoon. Tomorrow through Friday it still looks like it will be sunny, though with some fog here and there; and the high will be near 60 degrees. After that, rain will probably return.
Monday, October 7, 2013
4:40 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was just beautiful! The slightly warmer temperature carried through today, but the sun only lasted until early afternoon. Now, it is pretty overcast and gloomy out. The chance of showers is about 40%. It's looking like tomorrow will also be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers, and a high of only 54, but beginning Wednesday it may become sunny again.
Friday, October 4, 2013
2:55 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast for the next few days has not only stayed the same, it has improved! Today started out a little iffy (and last night was quite chilly), but by afternoon the clouds cleared and now it is sunny. Saturday through Monday are currently predicted to be sunny as well, with highs near 70 degrees. Hopefully these predictions will hold true.
Wednesday, October 2, 2013
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Last night felt the chilliest it's been since spring of this year. Last year at this time the high temperatures were an average of 15-20 degrees higher, so we were eased more gently into these cooler temperatures. Though lows were in the same range as this year, though. Today it didn't rain, but was pretty cool, and a mild wind is kicking up. Friday and Saturday are still looking good for sunny weather.
Tuesday, October 1, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been all over the map, again. Right now it's sunny, and there has been a lot of sun today, but up Orofino Creek there are some dark purple clouds looming. Friday and now Saturday could be sunny, according to the fickle forecast provided by the National Weather Service. It also looks like tomorrow could be sunny, though rain is predicted for the evening. It's a small chance (at this point), though.
Monday, September 30, 2013
3:10 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend had plenty of rain, and late Saturday night/early Sunday morning there were also heavy winds. It felt a little warmer out Sunday, as it does today. Oddly enough, the weather forecast, at the moment, mirrors last week's - rain until Friday, which is supposed to be sunny. Considering how that turned out last week, we'll just have to wait and see!
Friday, September 27, 2013
2:40 p.m. in Orofino-In spite of the forecast predicting, all week long, that today would be sunny, it isn't. This may because a heavy rain system is set to hit parts of northwestern Montana and north-central Idaho. It's difficult to say how much of Clearwater County will be affected, but the overall prediction says heavy rains could begin tonight and continue through Sunday
Thursday, September 26, 2013
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-We had some sun for a while today, and the temperature isn't as chilly as it was earlier in the week. This afternoon, however, it poured rain for a while, and from the look of things now, we could get more. Tomorrow (during the day) it still looks likely for sunshine, though the high has ticked down a few degrees, from 66 to 62. Sunday it now appears rain is likely. Saturday is still on the fence, with a 40% chance.
Wednesday, September 25, 2013
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-It was another dark, rainy day today, and tomorrow is looking to be the same. Friday, fortunately, is still predicted to be sunny. Earlier in the week, Saturday and Sunday were looking good for sun, but the chance of rain has gone up, so they may be the type of day where it's sunny one minute and pouring the next.
Tuesday, September 24, 2013
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-For most of today it has been dark and dreary, and it has rained - often as a downpour. But right now we have some sunshine, so go figure! It's definitely cool out, though it seems warmer at the moment, with the sun out. Friday is still looking good for a rain-free day. Orofino's homecoming is that day, so hopefully the good weather will hold.
Monday, September 23, 2013
3:37 p.m. in Orofino-The weekend was mostly overcast, but there were a few sunny minutes here and there. That's been a lot like today's weather! The forecast for the next few days mentions rain, and the chance ranges from 20% to 90%. Right now, Friday looks to be mostly clear!
Friday, September 20, 2013
10:30 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday it was sunny and perfect - warm, but not hot. Today is shaping up to be the same way, with a high of about 83. Tomorrow and Sunday there's a so-so chance of rain; that chance goes up quite a bit Sunday night. The high temperatures start ticking down beginning tomorrow, too: from 70 down into the 60s.
Wednesday, September 18, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Today, as predicted, is pretty cool when you're used to 100 degrees. It's been pouring rain off and on, though the sun came out for a few minutes earlier this afternoon. Tomorrow and Friday the high will be near 80 degrees, and some fog notwithstanding, the weather should be sunny. After that it looks like more rain.
Tuesday, September 17, 2013
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today is even cooler out than yesterday. It hasn't rained yet during the day, but by the look of the sky, it may do so before too much longer. Tomorrow the high is only supposed to be about 65 degrees; then Thursday it jumps up to 74, and Friday it should hit near 81 degrees. Thursday and Friday may be foggy, but so far, are predicted to be rain-free.
Monday, September 16, 2013
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-The rest of fair weekend was muggy and hot, just like Thursday and Friday. Sometime Sunday night or Monday morning, it rained, and the temperature dropped about 20 degrees - a welcome drop, for most. According to the National Weather Service forecast, tomorrow it's supposed to rain again. The highs for this week range from high 60s to low 80s, so far.
Friday, September 13, 2013
10:07 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday it was very very toasty out, and today looks to be along those lines as well. Last year fair days was marred with thick, street-level wildfire smoke all weekend long. This year it is absent. The Kiddie Parade starts at noon, and most vendors are setting up or have already set up. The carnival opens at 11 a.m. It's a perfect day to go to the fair!
Wednesday, September 11, 2013
4:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's not just bordering on hot - it IS hot! Tomorrow through Saturday look to be hot as well. Sunday it will cool down, but only a few degrees. It is looking more and more like we'll have a rain-free fair and Lumberjack Days.
Tuesday, September 10, 2013
2:40 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's bordering on hot, and it looks like the rest of the week may follow suit. The forecast has improved in terms of less likelihood for a rainy fair days weekend. Highs are going to be in the mid to upper 90s through at least Saturday.
Monday, September 9, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-We had a pretty beautiful weekend in Orofino. It was nice and warm out, with plenty of sun. Today it's been cooler and overcast, but so far it hasn't rained. Right now the forecast is saying the first couple days of the fair will be sunny, but is predicting a small chance of showers for Saturday and Sunday. Since the forecast ebbs and flows on a daily basis, that may change - hopefully for the better!
Friday, September 6, 2013
11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Clearwater County was among about 10 counties in Idaho that were on a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m. yesterday. Earlier in the day we received some heavy rain, and then sun, but dark clouds were circling. We did get a few minutes of thunderstorms yesterday evening, but here in town it wasn't too dramatic. Today it's cooler out (though definitely not "cold"), and the look of the sky suggests more rain could at some point today. The chance, according to the National Weather Service, is only 30%, so time will tell! The same chance is predicted for tomorrow. Right now, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday look to be sunny and pretty warm.
Wednesday, September 4, 2013
3:03 p.m. in Orofino-It's been pretty sunny today, so far. The forecast is predicting thunderstorms at some point, and there are some dark clouds headed this way from downriver. Tomorrow showers are likely, according to the forecast, and Friday it will be cooler, in the mid-seventies.
Tuesday, September 3, 2013
4:30 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday and Sunday the weather in Orofino was sunny, but hot; and the evenings were perfect. On Labor Day, however, it was overcast and balmy, and we got some scattered showers. Today it started out the same way, but after it poured earlier this afternoon, the clouds backed off some and now it's sunny. Clouds are still lingering, so we may get more.
Friday, August 30, 2013
2:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today and tomorrow the high will in the mid to high 80s. Sunday it is supposed to be nearly 100. And the next couple of days should be sunny and clear, making for a perfect Labor Day weekend.
Thursday, August 29, 2013
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Earlier this afternoon we received a brief downpour and some thunderstorms. Now it's bright and sunny. Yesterday's high humidity was perhaps an inkling of today's rain outburst. Tomorrow still predicts a slight chance of thunder and rain showers. Saturday and Sunday are also still predicted to be clear.
Wednesday, August 28, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast for today predicted that today would be sunny (until evening). It's turned out to be the reverse: this morning it was overcast and very balmy. Now, it's sunny. There's still a slight chance of thunderstorms predicted for Thursday and Friday, but right now Saturday and Sunday are looking to be sunny and clear.
Tuesday, August 27, 2013
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been beautiful - sunny, very warm, a light breeze, and no smoke. Fire crews are making progress on the Incendiary Creek Fire outside of Weippe - today containment is up to 40 percent. Tomorrow it will be sunny, with highs in the mid-nineties. Tomorrow night and Thursday there's a very slight chance of thunderstorms. Friday and Saturday look to be clear, but that slight chance of thunderstorms and even rain showers returns on Sunday.
Monday, August 26, 2013
4:45 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday the weather was fairly pleasant; Sunday was another story. It started out all right, but it became overcast by evening. Late yesterday the thunder and lightning kicked in, and they were joined by wind gusts and heavy rain; some places even saw large pieces of hail. Today it has been sunny and hot, and a little breezy. The rain damped down the smoke, so the air quality is much better today.
Friday, August 23, 2013
3:10 p.m. in Orofino-We did get some showers and lightning last night, but the lightning didn't make any of the fires worse, or seem to start many (if any) new ones. This morning it was overcast, but right now it's sunny and pretty clear, with no smoke. The wind is stronger today than it has been in a couple of months. An air quality alert remains in effect. Thunderstorms and showers are mentioned for this weekend's forecast, and highs for the next few days will be a bit lower - high 80s or low 90s.
Thursday, August 22, 2013
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today the smoke lasted beyond the a.m., and most of today it's been overcast. It is difficult to tell how much of that is from clouds and how much is smoke. Thunderstorms are mentioned in the forecast, so there may be new fires for our thinly stretched firefighting agencies to deal with. It's pretty hot out today - in the mid to high nineties, but tomorrow's high is about 10 degrees cooler than today's.
Wednesday, August 21, 2013
4:25 p.m. in Orofino-The patternof morning smoke that clears up in the afternoon continues for a third straight day. But up in Pierce and Weippe the smoke is probably hanging around, or even getting worse; the Incendiary Creek Fire is at 0% containment. Meanwhile, it's hot and a windy out, and there's a small chance of lightning later this week. Hopefully it won't happen; things are pretty dry out this time of year.
Tuesday, August 20, 2013
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Just like yesterday, it was smoky in the morning, but cleared up this afternoon. Three Mile Road in Weippe has been closed due to the new wildfire nearby. In Orofino it's pretty warm, but not unbearably so, and there is a light wind. The forecast still predicts it being clear through tomorrow, with a slight chance of lightning and thunder Thursday and Friday. Saturday looks to be sunny, though.
Monday, August 19, 2013
4:05 p.m. in Orofino-Friday night/early Saturday morning we experienced thunderstorms that started some new fires. There were also a couple of heavy downpours. Saturday it was overcast, and Sunday it was nice and sunny. Today there is not a cloud in the sky, though this morning it was very smoky out. That has backed off for now, but with fires near Lenore and Weippe, it might be back. Meanwhile, it's supposed to be sunny and clear through Wednesday. After that, we may get more thunderstorms.
Friday, August 16, 2013
1:45 p.m. in Orofino-Our toasty weather week continues today. There's a light wind; plus it smells like smoke outside, perhaps as a result of the fire outside of Weippe. 4:15 p.m. in Orofino-We had some clouds and a little lightning in downtown Orofino, and a few drops of rain Saturday night. Other areas received quite a lot of lightning! Wednesday and Thursday look like they'll be clear, with highs near 100.
Friday, August 9, 2013
2:00 p.m. in Orofino-It was a tad smoky out earlier today, and it's still plenty hot out. The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the Clearwater and Nez Perce National Forests, with regard to thunder and lightning storms. Orofino may or may not get any thunder and lightning, but in combination with the wind gusts that may hit other areas, the fire danger is significantly increased for other parts of the forests. In Orofino the chance of thunderstorms is listed all the way through Tuesday. It's still less than a 50 percent chance.
Wednesday, August 7, 2013
4:05 p.m. in Orofino-The suffocating heat continues today, and according to the National Weather Service, will last the rest of the week. There is still mention of thunderstorms during the weekend, but the chance is under 50%, so we'll see what happens.

Right now the National Weather Service forecast predicts plenty of sun for most of this week, but toward the end there's a small chance of thunderstorms. The forecast will undoubtedly evolve as the end of the week draws near.
Friday, August 2, 2013
4:40 p.m. in Orofino-The thunder and rain finally came yesterday, between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. The thunder didn't last all night, but the rain did, off and on. Today we had some scattered showers, and the sun has been out for over an hour, now. The cooler, but not cold, temperature today is welcome to many residents. Saturday's prediction for rain has dropped from 40% to 20%. Sunday looks to be sunny, as do Monday and Tuesday.
Thursday, August 1, 2013
4:23 p.m. in Orofino-At some point last night or this morning we got a smattering of rain - just enough to make one's car look filthy. With the exception of a couple hours earlier this afternoon, it has been overcast in downtown Orofino today. We've got a mild wind at the moment, too. It is still fairly warm out, though not so hot it is stifling. There haven't been any thunderstorms just yet, though the forecast still predicts them.
Wednesday, July 31, 2013
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-It was hot and sunny this morning; this afternoon it's been hot and overcast. The National Weather Service predicts a 20% chance of rain for tonight, which probably won't amount to anything. Tomorrow the forecast continues to predict thunderstorms; and Friday, it stays the high will be 75 degrees and rain is likely. Tuesday, July 30, 2013
4:35 p.m. in Orofino-We had maybe a touch of smoke in the air earlier today, but it seems to have backed off, for now. It's been good and warm out, too; even a little balmy. It is sunny at the moment, but earlier today it was mildly overcast. Friday, according to the National Weather Service, it will still rain, and Thursday we may see some thunderstorms.
Monday, July 29, 2013
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend it was as predicted - low 90s, so just hot rather than unbearably hot. Today it's about the same, and is also a little hazy out, perhaps from hints of wildfire smoke. Wednesday the temperature is predicted to be near 100 again, then come down. Friday, as of now, the HIGH is predicted to be just 74 degrees, with rain likely. We'll see if that one holds true.
Friday, July 26, 2013
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-It's about 101 degrees in downtown Orofino now. The forecast is predicting that next week it will even drop into the high 80s, so anyone who absolutely hates triple digit temperatures only has to hang on until tomorrow, when the high is expected to be around 92 degrees. Next week's forecast may change, of course, but this weekend should stay in the low 90s.
Thursday, July 25, 2013
4:50 p.m. in Orofino-Grip the steering wheel of your car if it's been sitting outside all day, and it's likely to be too hot to handle! It's again over 100 degrees in Orofino, and stepping from the air conditioned indoors to outside is almost like walking into a wall.
Wednesday, July 24, 2013
3:21 p.m. in Orofino-It's hard to say whether a breeze when it's this hot out helps or hurts, but we have one nonetheless. Some light winds are also expected for later in the week. And slightly cooler tempreatures are still predicted for the weekend.
Tuesday, July 23, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-The toasty weather hasn't let up, but if you enjoy summer heat you're likely loving it. The forecast still predicts temperatures will drop to the low 90s as early as Saturday.
Monday, July 22, 2013
3:10 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was good and hot, as has all the weather been of late. Right now it looks like the 100 degree temperatures will continue for the rest of the week, but towards the weekend or early next week, it may "cool down" to the low 90s.
Thursday, July 18, 2013
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Our scorching temperatures aren't showing signs of going anywhere. Today, though hot out, doesn't feel quite as muggy as yesterday did. There's a mild wind, which helps a bit.
Wednesday July 17, 2013
2:45 p.m. in Orofino-The thunderstorm/heavy rain prediction didn't amount to anything in downtown Orofino. Some dark clouds hung around and even moved in for a whlie, but it didn't rain and we didn't hear any thunder. It may have been a different story further out. Today it's good and hot again, and it appears that will hold true all week.
Tuesday, July 16, 2013
5:17 p.m. in Orofino-The high today was about 105 degrees, and that prediction of heavy rain is gone. The prediction for thunderstorms remains, which is bad news in terms of forest fires. To make matters worse, tomorrow the National Weather Service predicts strong winds. It's supposed to remain hot the rest of this week.
Monday, July 15, 2013
4:05 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was nice, and this week it's back to 100 degree temperatures. Tomorrow at some point we may also get thunderstorms, and there is an 80 percent chance of precipitation tomorrow night, as some of the storms could produce heavy rain.
Friday, July 12, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The slightly cooler, but still plenty warm, weather of these last couple days has been welcome for a lot of people. We still have a slight wind today, and have had one all week. This weekend should also be a little cooler (as in 80s rather than 90s or 100s), but next week we'll jump back up to high 90s. There is a tiny chance of thunderstorms tonight. It's only 20%, so not much may happen.
Wednesday, July 10, 2013
2:50 p.m. in Orofino-Folks stopping by the Tribune office report it is about 100 degrees out. The high prediced for today has been in the 95-97 degree range. It is still supposed to slowly cool into the 80s by the weekend, but go back up to nearly 100 by early next week.
Tuesday, July 9, 2013
4:23 p.m. in Orofino-Today is another sunny summer day. There is a fire a few miles upriver, but at the moment we are not drowning in smoke, the way we are some fire seasons. The forecast still predicts that the temperatures will cool off a few degrees each day the rest of this week, but by the weekend they'll be back into the 90s. Early next week we could be seeing 100 degree temperatures again.
Monday, July 8, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was sunny and beautiful. Today it is too, although we've had some dark clouds hovering; not many, but enough to notice. The forecast says it's clear out, though. There's also a mild wind. Tomorrow the high is supposed be about 97 degrees. From there it is, at the moment, expected to tick down until it's the 80s, but we'll see.
Friday, July 5, 2013
2:55 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino's Fourth of July was perfect - it was certainly hot out, but not scorching like it was Monday and Tuesday of this week. Today it's around 90 degrees, and the high should be in that neighborhood for through the weekend and early next week. There's mention of some mild winds, but so far no talk of rain or thunderstorms.
Wednesday, July 3, 2013
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-While good and toasty out today, it is staying in the mid-90s, and they feel almost bearable when compared with the 100+ temperatures of Monday and Tuesday. Tomorrow and the rest of the week the highs should be right around 90 degrees, give or take a few degrees.
Tuesday, July 2, 2013
2:16 p.m. in Orofino-It's been another scorcher today, with a predicted high of 104 degrees. Yesterday it was in that neighborhood, too. Right now, the Fourth is still predicted to be in the low 90s. There is a 20% chance of isolated thunderstorms tonight; hopefully, given the heat and potential for fires, they won't amount to anything.
Monday, July 1, 2013
5:06 p.m. in Orofino-Late Friday night there was a rain and thunder storm, buy since then it has been sunny, hot, and dry. Tomorrow the high is supposed to reach about 105 degrees, and a heat advisory remains in effect through then. After that, the temperatures tick back into the 90s. Right now the Fourth of July is predicted to be sunny and about 94 degrees.
Friday, June 28, 2013
4:35 p.m. in Orofino-If you've been waiting for hot weather, you should be a happy camper if you live in Orofino. It is beautiful out, with clear skies and plenty of sun, so long as you don't mind the heat. Monday and Tuesday of this coming week, temperatures could get as high as 107 degrees. Chances are good we'll have a sunny Fourth of July next Thursday.
Thursday, June 27, 2013
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-It's a toasty one today, and the next few days are supposed to be even hotter. The weather reports have mentioned concerns that the abrupt increase in heat might bother some folks. In some areas it will be the earliest heat wave on record in the past 120 years.
Wednesday, June 26, 2013
5:07 p.m. in Orofino-Today's been another ongoing rainstorm, complete with thunder and lightning. It's backed off at the moment, but looks to resume at any time. It is hard to believe this weekend will reach 100 degrees, but that's still what the forecast says. It isn't really cold out today; in fact, it's quite balmy. Tomorrow the high should be in the high 80s, and from then on out, it'll be sunny and HOT.
Tuesday, June 25, 2013
5:17 p.m. in Orofino-We've had several downpours today, and this afternoon, a thunderstorm. Black clouds are still hovering around the valley. Tomorrow may also be rainy, but after that the weather should begin improving. The weekend looks like it'll be a hot one.
Monday, June 24, 2013
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday's and Sunday's forecasts switched on us! Saturday was nice and sunny, and Sunday it was overcast and eventually rained. Today the rain continues, but it's been about 80 degrees out, and feels very balmy. Those looking forward to (or dreading) 100 degree weather should prepare themselves for Friday of this week. Thursday should be nice, too, though about 10 degrees cooler than Friday. Until then, we may be getting more rain.
Friday, June 21, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday it was overcast for most of the day; today we've had some sun, but also some rain. It is a little warmer today, about 70 degrees. Tomorrow there's a small chance of rain, but so far Sunday looks clear.
Wednesday, June 19, 2013
3:33 p.m. in Orofino-Not much happened with thunder last night (in Orofino, at least), but late last night it began pouring rain, and it has been doing so almost non-stop since then. It's twenty or more degrees cooler today than it has been of late. The chance of showers steadily decreases for the rest of the week, but some days it's still a 50-60% chance. The highs will creep back up toward 80 or so, too.
Tuesday, June 18, 2013
3:30 p.m. in Orofino-A severe thunderstorm warning has been in effect this afternoon for eastern Clearwater County and part of Idaho County. It hasn't amounted to anything, and it looks like the rain won't happen until late tonight. Tomorrow the chance of rain is higher. Weather for the rest of the week is iffy at this point, i.e. it could go either way.
Monday, June 17, 2013
4:27 p.m. in Orofino-Hopefully you enjoyed the weekend's weather if you're in the Orofino area, because tomorrow there's a high chance of rain showers. There's also a couple mentions of lightning, but it sounds like it may not amount to much. And it does say partly sunny, so perhaps there'll be a rainbow. Unfortunately, the wind gusts could get as high as 24 mph. Wednesday the chance of showers is also high, at the moment.
Friday, June 14, 2013
3:05 p.m. in Orofino-It's overall been a smidge warmer out than it was yesterday; otherwise it's about the same. We get dark and overcast, then we get sunshine. And back again. The weekend is still looking good! There's now mention of some patchy fog, but otherwise it's predicted to be sunny, and Sunday the high should be about 90 degrees.
Thursday, June 13, 2013
4:03 p.m. in Orofino-Today we've had some overcast moments (such as now), but overall it's been nice out, and on the warm side but not hot. The strong breeze is back, and is very refreshing. It looks like tomorrow will be like today - mostly nice, but with overcast times throughout the day. Possibly even some thunderstorms. The weekend looks better, still sunny with highs in the 80s.
Wednesday, June 12, 2013
4:06 p.m. in Orofino-It rained at some point last night, thought not much. This morning it was again overcast, but later the sun came out. It's cooler today, with a strong breeze. The forecast has fluxuated again, and now says this weekend's highs will be over 80 degrees. The (small) chance of showers has changed to tonight and tomorrow. The rest of the week after that should stay partly cloudy or better.
Tuesday, June 11, 2013
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-This morning and into mid-afternoon it was sunny out, but it's become pretty overcast now. The clouds directly over Orofino don't seem quite dark enough to rain, at the moment, but there are some further away that do. The temperature has been pleasant, though it dropped a few degrees when the clouds moved in. In the forecast now there are a couple of evenings that mention rain, though the chance is slight.
Monday, June 10, 2013
3:55 p.m. in Orofino-We enjoyed a warm, sunny, beautiful weekend in Orofino, and today is just as beautiful, though a few degrees cooler. The first few days of this week are supposed to stay a little cooler than this weekend got, but should warm back up to upper 80s/low 90s for the weekend. It looks like there may be some partly cloudy days, and maybe a thunderstorm here and there, but for the most part, it looks like this week will bring sunny weather.
Friday, June 7, 2013
12:00 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was sunny and toasty. Today it's toasty, but it's gotten overcast as the morning as worn on, and the wind is picking up a bit. The forecast still claims this afternoon will be "mostly clear," and that the wind will get up to about 9 miles per hour. The weekend still looks good.
Wednesday, June 5, 2013
4:56 p.m. in Orofino-It got almost to 90 degrees today, and it's been sunny and beautiful. As welcome as nicer weather is, it still makes one appreciate an air conditioner.
Tuesday, June 4, 2013
3:55 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's been noticeably warmer, with a beautiful blue sky, a nice breeze, and plenty of sunshine. It still looks like the rest of the week will be similar to today, except warmer.
Monday, June 3, 2013
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Most of this weekend was nice, but we did get a few thunderstorms Sunday, and Sunday night, a downpour. Today it's been mostly sunny, and the rest of the week looks to be a lot warmer, with highs in the mid to high 80s.
Friday, May 31, 2013
11:45 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was a weird day weather-wise. Today, so far, it's been more straightforward - mostly sunny, with a light breeze. Tomorrow it's still supposed to be nice, but the high dropped a few degrees, so we may not get into the 80s. Sunday there's still a slight chance of thunderstorms, but it's so slight that not much may happen.
Wednesday, May 29, 2013
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-This morning started out sunny, and with enough warmth that it felt like today could get into the low 80s. Instead, a chilly wind rolled in and whipped the trees around for a while. This was followed by over an hour of a downpour. Since that quit, it's been overcast, with an occasional few minutes of sunshine. Tomorrow there's about a 50% chance of showers, but Friday looks nice, and so does Saturday. Sunday now mentions a slight chance of showers and possible thunderstorms.
Tuesday, May 28, 2013
3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Memorial Day weekend brought a mixed bag of weather. We had sun, wind, a lot of overcast hours, and even a scattered rain shower here and there. The temperature was mostly moderate. Today is more of the same, and it looks like the next few days will be, too. Saturday is supposed to be mostly sunny with a high of 82 degrees, though, so hang in there, fair weather folks!
Friday, May 24, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Thursday, until evening, was mostly sunny and pleasant. Today we've had a moment or two of sunshine, but for the most part it has poured rain. The Memorial Day forecast remains dreary, but since the chance of rain is slight on a couple of the days, perhaps we'll get some sun here and there.
Wednesday, May 22, 2013
3:40 p.m. in Orofino-Rain drizzles and cooler temperatures have accompanied today's weather - it's not yet safe to put away your jackets for the summer. Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Tomorrow it's supposed to get to about 81, but the rest of the week the highs range from 56 to 69, and there are several mentions of rain. Hopefully the long weekend won't be too waterlogged.
Thursday, May 16, 2013
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Some pretty dark clouds have lingered all around Orofino today, but so far, haven't produced any precipitation. They still could! The temperature is in the 60s, but it feels a little warmer, perhaps due to the humidity. The forecast for the rest of the week hasn't really changed, except the chance of showers Saturday is up to 40% (from 30%).
Wednesday, May 15, 2013
4:50 p.m. in Orofino-Today has been similar to yesterday - partly to mostly cloudy, some sunshine, and a light breeze. It's rather pleasant out, maybe a touch on the cool side. This kind of weather is supposed to last through this week, with a slight chance of showers here and there.
Tuesday, May 14, 2013
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-The hazardous weather did touch Orofino, but it sounds like the worst of it hit farther east. We had brief thunder, a couple brief downpours, and some wind, though it didn't reach 50 mph. Today it's been partly to mostly cloudy. We had sun earlier, but now it's looking more and more overcast. The chance of rain has crept back into the forecast for the rest of the week, with highs ranging from the high 60s to low 70s.
Monday, May 13, 2013
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been a little more "interesting" than we had expected. It started out sunny, but muggy. This afternoon clouds swooped in and it began raining, plus there have been some wind gusts. Nothing super strong yet, but enough to make walking down the street rather lively. The National Weather Forecast issued a hazardous weather warning that includes the Orofino area, Headquarters, and Dent. It mentioned the possibility of thunder, downpours, wind gusts as high as 50 mph, and hail an inch in diameter. It hasn't been that severe, yet, but there are some very dark clouds surrounding the area.

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-We are into the mid-80s again today, with a nice breeze and plenty of sun! It's toasty, but not so hot you start sweating the instant you set foot outside. The forecast still looks good for the rest of the week.
Tuesday, May 7, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast is predicting that the weather will stay in the 80s through this week, but beginning Monday, the high will drop to about 70 degrees. Monday, May 6, 2013
4:45 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was toasty and sunny, with highs in the low 80s. That trend looks to continue all week, though evenings in the middle of the week will bring a slight chance of thunderstorms. It'll be interesting to see whether this sunny weather precedes another bout of rainy weather, or whether we are finally heading into summer.
Friday, May 3, 2013
12:25 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was great in terms of weather. Today it is overcast, contrary to what the forecast predicted earlier this week; and there is a small chance of thunderstorms tonight. The next four days, however, should be even better than Thursday, and Monday and Tuesday the high is expected to be about 80 degrees. Before you know it we'll be lugging out the air conditioners.
Wednesday, May 1, 2013
4:32 p.m. in Orofino-The first day of May has been sunny and beautiful, with a light breeze and a high in the mid-sixties. Quite a change from earlier this week. This morning it was a bit chilly, but quickly warmed up. It still looks like we'll get to enjoy similar weather for the rest of the week.
Tuesday, April 30, 2013
3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today's another wacky weather day in downtown Orofino. It's colder than it has been in weeks (or feels that way, at any rate), and we've had sun, rain, snow, and wind. It is supposed to be sunny for the rest of the week, though, starting tomorrow.
Monday, April 29, 2013
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Navigating Orofino today is a little tricky, with all the wind gusts and rain showers. The next minute the sun will come out, then it will rain, then a wind gust will whip up some dust and tree blossoms. Saturday was cloudy and it rained that evening. Sunday was a little better. Tomorrow the weather is iffy in terms of how much sun we might get, but later in the week it's supposed to be sunny again.
Friday, April 26, 2013
2:15 p.m. in Orofino-The sunny days keep coming! Today it is well into the 70s, and yesterday was, too. There's a soft breeze and no clouds in the sky, too. The weekend looks great, too, though there's a small chance of rain Sunday night. Things should be perfect for Orofino's community clean-up day tomorrow.
Wednesday, April 24, 2013
5:13 p.m. in Orofino-We have another beautiful, clear, sunny day on our hands today in downtown Orofino. There's a bit of a breeze, but no chilly wind like there's been the last few and far between sunny days, of late. The forecast is now predicting a small chance of rain here and there this weekend, but for the rest of the week, we're still supposed to get days like today.
Tuesday, April 23, 2013
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather was a bit of a mixed bag. It was colder than expected, and overcast until mid-afternoon. Since mid-afternoon it has been sunny and bright. Not quite the perfect weather indicated by the forecast, but at least it didn't rain. And we've more sunny days to look forward to this week.
Monday, April 22, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Finally, for this week, we'll get to enjoy the upside of spring-like weather for more than one day! All this week is supposed to be beautiful, and even get into the 70s. Today we still have some wind, but it's not too bad, and at this point is preferable to more rain.
Friday, April 19, 2013
10:20 a.m. in Orofino-Thursday's weather proved to be disappointing. It didn't rain (during the day, at least), but it was overcast and most definitely not like Wednesday. Today it's been raining since early this morning, and rain will probably continue through the weekend. Right now next week's weather looks like it'll be sunny, with highs in the 60s and maybe even 70s.
Wednesday, April 17, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-This morning we woke up to completely clear, blue skies, with not a cloud in sight. It's warmer out, too, and finally feels spring-like again, the brisk wind notwithstanding. Tomorrow we should get to enjoy similar weather.
Tuesday, April 16, 2013
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino's skies have been partly cloudy today, with the sun making several appearances. Cooler temperatures and a chilly wind still made it seem more like early March than mid-April. It still looks like tomorrow and Thursday will be mostly sunny and a little warmer, but after that, more rain.
Monday, April 15, 2013
3:40 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday it snowed! Downtown it didn't amount to anything, but it sounds like it stuck in some areas higher up. Rain clouds loomed Sunday, but it never did rain. It was chillier than it has been. Today started out sunny and has slowly faded to overcast. It's in the fifties. This week's forecast, so far, won't inspire any jumping for joy from those who are eager for warm, sunny weather, but you never know. Wednesday and Thursday might see a few hours of sun.
Friday, April 12, 2013
4:05 p.m. in Orofino-This morning it was beautiful out. This afternoon hasn't been bad, but some pale clouds cover the sky. It's not dark, but nor is it particularly bright. No doubt the rain predicted for tonight is busy gearing up! And the weekend forecast is still dismal if you're hoping for sunshine. Maybe we'll get a bit here and there, like last weekend.
Thursday, April 11, 2013
2:20 p.m. in Orofino-This morning we enjoyed some sunshine. By late morning clouds had moved in, and it's getting pretty overcast outside. A mild wind is also blowing. Last night there was a wind storm, though it was far less intense than many of the wind storms we get these days.

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-We've had a dark, overcast day in downtown Orofino, with intermittent rain showers that began earlier this afternoon. The sun is currently attempting to peek through the clouds. It probably won't last, but no one will be complaining if it does! Rain is expected for most of this week, but Friday is now saying partly cloudy during the day, with no rain until night.
Tuesday, April 9, 2013
3:55 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast was right about today - thought a little chillier than it looks, it's still sunny and beautiful, with mostly clear skies. Showers are pretty likely tomorrow, but the high will be in the 60s, so at least it won't be cold!
Monday, April 8, 2013
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-There was, as predicted, a great deal of rain this weekend, but we did get a few hours each day that were rain-free. Not necessarily sunny, but at least it wasn't pouring. Today, at the moment, we are actually enjoying a few minutes of sunlight, but it's been dark, windy, and rainy most of the day. The forecast, at present, predicts a break in the rain for tomorrow, with a high of 61 degrees. But it also says rain will return for the rest of the week.
Friday, April 5, 2013
12:35 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday we actually enjoyed a fair amount of sunshine, but there were dark clouds hovering nearby. Late last night it began to pour rain, and with it came some winds, though they weren't as strong as some gusts we've received. Today it's been pouring off and on, even while the sun was out. It's pouring at the moment! And it looks to continue through the weekend.
Wednesday, April 3, 2013
5:25 p.m. in Orofino-Again the morning was a little iffy, but today turned into yet another beautiful day. A lot of residents have remarked that the trees and other plants have all started blossoming, almost overnight. A cherry tree in front of the Pizza Factory is in full bloom at the moment, and is stunning. Unfortunately the forecast is still predicting that rain is "likely" to begin tomorrow, and continue through most of the weekend.
Tuesday, April 2, 2013
2:35 p.m. in Orofino-This morning was somewhat overcast, but by lunchtime the clouds had cleared, and it's as beautiful as it was yesterday. Crummy weather still seems poised to return by the end of the week.
Monday, April 1, 2013
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Easter weekend was absolutely perfect springtime weather, and today is following that trend. We've enjoyed highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Right now the forecast says the rain may return as early as Thursday, but the next two days are supposed to be like today - sunny and clear!
Friday, March 29, 2013
10:15 p.m. in Orofino-We enjoyed a rain-free day yesterday, though parts of the day were overcast. Today looks to be about the same. But the next few days should be nice and sunny, and the highs are still predicted as being close to 70 degrees.

Tuesday, March 26, 2013
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today it has been beautiful out, despite the 20% chance of rain predicted by the National Weather Service forecast yesterday. The forecast is now saying it'll be cloudy some of the time until the weekend, with a 50% chance of showers. Saturday and Sunday should be sunny, with highs near 70. Since this Sunday is Easter, it would make ideal weather for families who hunt Easter eggs.
Monday, March 25, 2013
4:05 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday's weather was more of the same wackiness, but Sunday was BEAUTIFUL. Today has been half and half. Until this afternoon it was overcast and somewhat dreary, though it was precipitation free. Now it's as sunny out as it was Sunday. Last week the forecast for the next few days promised sunshine, and had no mention of rain. Now it says there's a chance, albeit slight, of rain. Hopefully the sun will prevail from time to time.
Friday, March 22, 2013

Wednesday, March 20, 2013
3:25 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been all over the place. Early this morning it POURED rain. Then it alternated between overcast and sunny. After 2 p.m. strong gusts of wind kicked up and made a mess. Shortly thereafter the power went out in parts of town and as far out as Grangemont, and the downpour returned. Avista Utilities crews are out and about, and a couple of sheriff's office vehicles went racing towards the Upper/Lower Fords Creek junction.
Tuesday, March 19, 2013
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-The sun is out for the afternoon in downtown Orofino, and it's about 50 degrees out. Enjoy it, as tonight there's an 80% chance of rain, and tomorrow there's at least that much chance. After tomorrow it will cool off again, with highs in the 40s instead of 50s. (Or that's what the forecast says now - it could always change!).
Monday, March 18, 2013
3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Our weather this weekend was as unpleasant as predicted, though it was mild compared to what is happening in some other parts of the country. It was several degrees cooler here, and snowed both nights, though the snow didn't stick here in town. Today it's chilly out, too, and some very dark clouds are hovering. We also had heavy gusts of wind Saturday night, and it's been breezy ever since. The weather for the rest of the week doesn't look too cheerful, though this week brings the first week of spring.
Friday, March 15, 2013
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday it was overcast all day, but never did rain much, if at all. The temperature was nice, too - near 60. Today it's been a little better, with some sunny moments here and there, and it's even warmer out! The National Weather Service issued a statement indicating that a cold front is going to sweep in on Saturday, and last through most of Sunday. There is even a chance of snow showers! It may turn out to be rain here in town. The chance Saturday night is 90 percent, while the chance Sunday is 70 percent.

Tuesday, March 12, 2013
4:08 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather hasn't been particularly cheerful, but nor has it been horrible; just overcast and a little breezy. It's looking more and more like we'll get some rain tonight. Dreary weather is still in the forecast for most of this week.
Monday, March 11, 2013
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Our sunny weekend wasn't that sunny! Most of it was overcast, though we did have a few hours of sunshine on Saturday. Sunday evening it rained for a while, and there was a chilly wind. Today's weather has veered between overcast and dark and bright and sunny. The forecast is suggesting it will rain off and on all week. The first day of spring is next week.
Friday, March 8, 2013
1:07 p.m. in Orofino-It's blue skies in Orofino today! There's not a cloud in sight. It's a tad cooler out than you might expect, but it still feels great. We can expect more of the same for this weekend.
Thursday, March 7, 2013
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-The dark, overcast afternoon turned into a downpour yesterday. It came and went all evening. Today we're enjoying a partly cloudy, but mostly sunny, day, and the high is probably near 50. It looks like we can still expect a nice weekend. There might be some fog tomorrow, but other than that, just a few clouds and highs in the 50s.
Wednesday, March 6, 2013
4:05 p.m. in Orofino-We were teased by less than an hour of sunlight early this afternoon. The rest of the day it's been overcast, and it's getting pretty dark out at the moment. Tuesday, March 5, 2013
2:20 p.m. in Orofino-There's a wintery chill in the air today, and for a bit this morning, we had very few and far between snow flurries coming down. The sky has been overcast or close to it for most of the day. The forecast is now predicting about and 80% chance of showers tomorrow.
Monday, March 4, 2013
2:30 p.m. in Orofino-We had some so-so weather this weekend. Saturday night, it began to pour rain, but the real excitement came early Sunday morning, when wind gusts of almost 30 mph whipped throught the area. It didn't seem to cause any power outages in town. Today it's a little cooler out, but in exchange we're enjoying mostly clear skies and a blazing sun. Tomorrow rain starts creeping back into the picture, though the chance (right now) is only about 30%.
Friday, March 1, 2013
12:45 p.m. in Orofino-Rain poured all day yesterday, accompanied by a brisk breeze. While we haven't had any rain today, it's looking like it'll come by this evening. The forecast is now saying it'll rain most of the weekend. The highs will stay in the 50s, though.
Wednesday, February 27, 2013
4:05 p.m. in Orofino-We enjoyed a beautiful morning and most of the afternoon today in Orofino. About half an hour ago rain clouds moved in. Last night it got colder than one might expect. Today, so far, the temperature has been pleasant, though not precisely "warm."
Tuesday, February 26, 2013
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-It appears to have rained for a bit last night, but today we have, much to everyone's surprise, enjoyed a fair amount of sunshine. It's neither warm nor freezing out. There is a so-so chance of showers tomorrow, and a greater chance Thursday, but we might get some sun Friday or Saturday. Daylight Saving Time is a week from Sunday. Currently sunset is at about 5:30 p.m. It'll be nice to have it at 6:30 p.m. instead!
Monday, February 25, 2013
3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday we had some sun, but by mid-afternoon it was pouring. The rain stopped sometime during the evening. Sunday was much better - lots of sun and no rain. But, Monday morning we awoke to heavy snowfall. It was just enough to terrify the folks who've already removed their snow tires. Hilariously, it's basically gone, and right now the sun is out. This week's forecast mentions rain here and there. The highs will start out in the mid-forties and increase to the upper fifties. Lows will range from the low thirties to low forties.
Friday, February 22, 2013
12:10 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday afternoon downtown Orofino received rain until evening; and up higher it snowed. Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Monday, February 18, 2013
3:35 p.m. in Orofino-We definitely saw some rain this weekend: Saturday night brought a torrential downpour over a few hours. There were some scattered showers Sunday. Before it rained Saturday, it was as beautiful as it had been on Friday - sunny and well into the 50s. Today it's been partly to mostly cloudy. No rain so far, but it looks like it might start at any moment.
Friday, February 15, 2013
11:10 a.m. in Orofino-We are enjoying a beautiful, sunny day in Orofino. It's always welcome when the forecast is right about sunny days! Unfortunately, it predicts a very likely chance of rain and maybe snow showers tomorrow night, and a high chance of rain on Sunday. If it's right about the next few days, we won't have a sunny day again until Monday.
Wednesday, February 13, 2013
2:42 p.m. in Orofino-There are rain clouds about and the forecast calls for precipitation, but so far today all we've had is sunshine alternating with an overcast sky. Right now it's in between the two, so we'll see what happens. It was somewhat windy a couple hours ago, but the wind has since quieted. Friday is still predicted to be sunny. Tomorrow there's a slight chance of rain.
Tuesday, February 12, 2013

Monday, February 11, 2013
2:30 p.m. in Orofino-This weekened wasn't too bad, and today the weather is gorgeous - sunny and in the mid-forties. Rain may return for the next few days, but at the moment the forecast says Friday's weather will be like today's. We'll see whether that holds true as the week progresses.
Friday, February 8, 2013
11:38 a.m. in Orofino-Rain rain rain...actually, it hasn't been too bad, but yesterday evening it was chilly and windy, as well as rainy, so the wind sent icy rain right into one's face. Today it's been overcast. The chance of rain today is only 20%, and is about that through the weekend.
Wednesday, February 6, 2013
4:50 p.m. in Orofino-We did get a dash of rain early yesterday evening, and another dash early this morning. Wednesday, January 30, 2013
4:33 p.m. in Orofino-More rain? You guessed it! Last night it rained instead of snow. We did get a bit of very wet snow, and there was even a couple hours of decent weather today. But the forecast claims it'll rain again tomorrow, and possibly tonight.
Tuesday, January 29, 2013
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-We did get snow last night, but it was pretty wet, and it's been raining off and on today. The streets and sidewalks are everyone's favorite slushy mess. Tonight, according to the National Weather Service, we could get another 2 to 4 inches. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain as well as snow. The weekend, at the moment, looks like it might have some sunshine for us.
Monday, January 28, 2013
3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Today it started out snowing and is now raining. Over the weekend we had some rain, but not nearly as much as it sounded like we would get. Sunday it was even sunny for a few hours. But when we awoke Sunday morning, a thin layer of wet snow had settled. The National Weather Service predicts that the rain will turn back to snow tonight, and leave us with a couple of inches. It also predicts that we'll get another inch or two tomorrow. And that's just here in town. Higher up, it could be as much as 10 inches!
Friday, January 25, 2013

Wednesday, January 23, 2013
3:40 p.m. in Orofino-The rain has begun! It started about fifteen minutes ago. This morning it was sunny out, but over the day clouds crept over Orofino in preparation of dumping this downpour. It still appears we'll get more of the same for the rest of the week.
Tuesday, January 22, 2013
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-It looks like today is our last blue-sky day for the rest of the week; the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and rain off and on, starting tomorrow. After tonight it'll be a few degrees warmer.
Monday, January 21, 2013
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-The sunny, clear days have been great, but will be interrupted this week by rain, as early as Tuesday night. The chance of rain Tuesday night is only 30%, so we'll see. Wednesday it goes up to a 70% chance. The rest of the week the chance varies, but the days will be a lot cloudier. Friday, January 18, 2013
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Our sunny, clear weather continues, with the same pattern we've had all week. The days are brisk, but not freezing; once the sun goes down, it's quite cold, particularly last night. But residents are enjoying the sunshine and welcome reprieve from overcast skies dumping rain and snow.
Wednesday, January 16, 2013
2:25 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's been sunny and clear, and some of the slush and snow is melting away. Now that the sun is out it's not super cold, but once it goes down it should feel pretty chilly. 4:15 p.m. in Orofino-We haven't received any more precipitation since Monday, and the forecast now says we'll get fog but no precipitation for the rest of the week. The highs will be in the mid-thirties, and lows will be in the twenties. That is assuming it doesn't change again!
Monday, January 14, 2013
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast claiming this past weekend would be clear and snow-free was quite mistaken! It snowed both days (though not all day long) and snowed all morning and into the afternoon today. The forecast now says it'll be sunny and clear the next couple of days. We shall see!
Friday, January 11, 2013
12:20 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday we got more snow. It snowed all afternoon and into the evening, but here in town only amounted to less than an inch. Today it's brisk out, but partly sunny so far. There's a slight chance we'll get more snow overnight, but the weekend and probably early next week will be mostly sunny.
Wednesday, January 9, 2013
4:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's a murky, cloudy, rainy, dreary day in downtown Orofino. Tomorrow there's a 70% chance it will snow, but it's supposed to amount to less than an inch. We've had a lot of fog the last couple of days, too. Today the temperature was up around 40 degrees.
Tuesday, January 8, 2013
2:30 p.m. in Orofino-The rain picked up again today, along with some fog. As one can imagine, it's a slushy mess! More rain is expected tomorrow. We may get a little snow later in the week, but it probably won't amount to much.
Monday, January 7, 2013
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino is going to be a slushy mess for the rest of the week. This morning we awoke to snow - not the sort that melts five minutes after it lands, either. It was coming down pretty heavily, and had about two inches built up. At around lunchtime, the snow had transitioned to rain. Roads are perhaps slickest when it snows, then rains right afterwards, and cars could be seen lightly fishtailing down Michigan Avenue. Tonight the whole mess will freeze, and tomorrow we can expect more rain. Snow is predicted for later in the week.
Friday, January 4, 2013
3:55 p.m. in Orofino-It was very cold last night, and today's not much warmer. It's been overcast all day, and the clouds look like they may snow on us at any moment. A person on Riverside claimed it was snowing out there, but in downtown Orofino, it isn't (so far). The National Weather Service forecast still has no mention of snow for today.
Thursday, January 3, 2013

Tuesday and Wednesday's forecasts now say rain is likely. Temperatures will range from the low 40s to the mid-twenties. Tonight the low is supposed to be 22, so bundle up!
Wednesday, January 2, 2013
3:35 p.m. in Orofino-New Year's Day we got a few snow flurries, but nothing stuck. Today it's brisk out, and we've enjoyed partly cloud skies with sunshine for most of the day. Monday, December 31, 2012
3:03 p.m. in Orofino-Sunday it snowed, and the hills above Orofino got as much as a couple of inches. Here in town the snow was more like flurries, and didn't stick. Today we had a couple hours of sunshine, but it's clouded back up. The temperature is about the same as it has been. So far there's no mention of snow in the upcoming week's forecast.

Tonight and tomorrow, the forecast says snow is likely, and tomorrow we may get one or two more inches. Saturday is supposed to be sunny! Last week was the shortest day of the year, so we can look forward to it stayling lighter out a little longer from here on out.
Monday, December 24, 2012
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today it's been snowing downtown since this morning, but the snow is so wet that it's barely sticking. The temperature has been right around freezing or slightly below. The National Weather Service predicts an 80 to 90 percent chance that rain and/or snow will continue through Wednesday. We may not get a white Christmas so much as a slushy one. Folks living higher up, such as in Pierce and Weippe, will likely have a very white Christmas this year!
Friday, December 21, 2012
1:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday and today have both been fairly chilly. Some ominous storm clouds were hanging around yesterday afternoon, but didn't amount to anything in downtown Orofino. Today it is also overcast. The forecast predicts only a 30% chance of rain, so we'll see what happens. This weekend is supposed to be a bit warmer, with maybe some rain, but so far, no mention of snow.
Wednesday, December 19, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Last night or early this morning we got barely a smattering of snow in Orofino - just enough to leave white sprinkles here and there. It feels fairly cold out, in part because of the chilly wind, but it's been at least in the 30s all day. A huge snowstorm is supposed to pass over this area, but according to the forecast, if we are even hit with snow, it'll be no more than half an inch.
Tuesday, December 18, 2012

The shortest day of the year is at the end of this week; after that, we can look forward to it staying light outside longer.
Monday, December 17, 2012
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-In downtown Orofino we haven't received any snow since the weekend before last, but the next few days there is a 50% or so chance of snow. A winter storm is set to pass through parts of Idaho and Montana tonight, but it sounds like the worst of it will miss Orofino. We have had some almost balmy wind today, but no precipitation since this morning.
Friday, December 14, 2012
1:30 p.m. in Orofino-We had some sunshine this morning, but it's clouding up at the moment. There's a 50% chance of rain and snow showers for later today, and rain is expected all weekend. Yesterday was much the same - cloudy and cold, but not super freezing.
Wednesday, December 12, 2012
3:55 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast hasn't changed much - still a small chance of snow and a likelihood of rain. Today it's been pretty murky out, with dark clouds hovering, but hasn't yet done much raining. It's staying above freezing, for now, even at night, though just barely.
Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Monday, December 10, 2012
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday was cold, and Sunday night saw downtown Orofino's first significant snowfall of the winter, which wasn't much. It was pretty wet, heavy snow, and as of today at this time the majority of it is gone. Les Schwab had a decent herd of motorists scrambling to get their snow tires on today. The forecast for the rest of the week calls for highs of about 40 and lows at or slightly below freezing. Snow showers are mentioned a time or two, with a snow level at 1100 feet and 1200 feet some days, so we may get more later this week, but it might end up being mixed with rain and not amount to much.
Friday, December 7, 2012
2:10 p.m. in Orofino-It has continued to rain in Orofino today, and is snowing in the hilltop communities. This dreary weather is expected to continue through the weekend, but tomorrow (Saturday) it may be snow, as the temperature will be noticeably colder. The forecast still claims little to snow accumulation. Sunday night it said less than an inch of snow accumulation is possible, but it also predicts snow mixed with rain. Higher up, there's a winter weather advisory in effect, which predicts 2 to 5 inches of new snow in Elk River, Pierce, and on the Greer Grade. The Camas Prairie is also mentioned.
Thursday, December 6, 2012
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-And the crummy weather is back! Folks in the Pierce and Weippe area have reported receiving snow today. In Orofino, it's not quite cold enough for snow that sticks, and the snow that is falling is so wet it's more akin to rain. Tomorrow we're to expect more rain. We may get some snow showers this weekend, but again, for downtown, it's not expected to stick.
Wednesday, December 5, 2012
3:38 p.m. in Orofino-We did get a fair amount of sunshine today, and so far no rain, though some pretty dark clouds hovered for most of the day. Later this week it is supposed to get quite cold for a couple of days. This weekend there's a slight chance of snow.

4:00 p.m. in Orofino-No sunshine today - just clouds and plenty of rain. There have been several downpours today, and at the moment it's quite foggy, though the fog is above street level.
Monday, December 3, 2012
1:40 p.m. in Orofino-Just like this weekend, today is a random mix of sunshine and overcast moments. It hasn't rained since early this morning, but it probably will before the day ends. The forecast remains uninteresting (so far) for this week - just more rain.
Thursday, November 29, 2012
2:45 p.m. in Orofino-The good news: it's a little warmer. The bad news: it's raining! Not at the moment, but it did last night, and from the look of the sky, it will start up again any moment. The highs and lows for the rest of the week will be a tad warmer like this, but should it change and freeze, the roads will be pretty icy.
Wednesday, November 28, 2012
4:40 p.m. in Orofino-The chilliness continues! Early this morning there was quite a blanket of thick fog in Orofino, but it rose up later on. Still no mention of snow in the forecast; just rain. The temperatures are predicted to be about the same as they have been.
Tuesday, November 27, 2012
2:38 p.m. in Orofino-It was pretty cold again last night, and the temperature felt lower than what was predicted by the National Weather Service. Today there's a bite to the air. The forecast continues to predict rain for later in the week. Still no mention of snow, at least for downtown.
Monday, November 26, 2012
3:05 p.m. in Orofino-We did get some rain this weekend, and Sunday night the temperature dropped into the 20s, though the forecast predicted 30. This week highs are supposed to be in the 40s and lows in the 30s, with some rain later in the week. It'll be interesting to see if we get another frost, or if the forecast holds true.
Friday, November 23, 2012
12:10 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino hasn't received quite as much rain as was originally forecast. Thanksgiving Day was even sunny, but that night it dipped a few degrees below freezing. Today it remains chilly, and right now it's overcast, but the clouds aren't very dark. Nonetheless, the National Weather Forecast predicts rain for tonight through most of the weekend.
Tuesday, November 20, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-There isn't much new to say about today's weather. It's been overcast and warmer than usual (about 50 degrees for the high), and it rained this afternoon. Last night we did get some heavier wind for a while, but most of that was predicted to hit Grangeville, Whitebird, and Riggins (all south of Orofino). Expect similar weather for the rest of the week.
Monday, November 19, 2012
2:05 p.m. in Orofino-There was rain this weekend (and wind late on Saturday night), but we did get a little sun. Today it's been overcast, and at the moment the sky is getting so dark it is likely preparing to dump some pretty heavy rainfall. The forecast continues to mention rain instead of snow, with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s, and lows in the upper 30s. Until our lows start staying below freezing, it's unlikely we'll get much snow.
Friday, November 16, 2012
1:25 p.m. in Orofino-This morning was rather murky, but by noon the sun had emerged. It's not quite as bright as it was yesterday, but it's nonetheless and sunny and warmer. The chance of rain is pretty high for Saturday through Monday, but temperatures here in town should remain above freezing.
Thursday, November 15, 2012
2:10 p.m. in Orofino-We're enjoying a welcome reprieve from the rain today - it's been very sunny and slightly warmer since this morning. There's been a lot of fog this week, though Orofino hasn't seen it in town. The chance of rain tomorrow is slight, but it could happen. It's described as "likely" to rain Saturday and especially Sunday.
Wednesday, November 14, 2012
5:15 p.m. in Orofino-Rain returns! And you can still expect more over the rest of the week. Still no mention of snow, and the high Saturday may even be in the 50s. It'll be interesting to see what Thanksgiving week's weather prediction ends up being.
Tuesday, November 13, 2012
3:30 p.m. in Orofino-It's another chilly day in Orofino. It hasn't rained (yet), but otherwise, it's been about like yesterday - overcast and dreary, with plenty of mud. The air has a bit of a bite to it. The National Weather Service forecast continues to predict that this week it will not get cold enough to snow, but the rain will resume tonight or tomorrow.
Monday, November 12, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-We had a few wonderful minutes of sunshine this weekend, but today has been nonstop rain, and it's quite brisk out. The forecast, at the moment, predicts rain all week, save Thursday. The highs will be in the 40s, the lows in the mid to upper thirties, so it doesn't look like we'll get snow that'll stick. Higher up there may be some. And this all may change by the end of the week, as the forecast fluctuates every day.
Friday, November 9, 2012
11:42 a.m. in Orofino-It hasn't rained much today, but it remains dark, cold, and cloudy. Rain showers are expected to kick in tonight and tomorrow, with the potential for some snow, but the forecast still insists the snow will not stick. A Weippe resident reported that it's snowing there. The forecast for Weippe says about an inch of snow may accumulate today.
Thurdsday, November 8, 2012
4:45 p.m. in Orofino-It has been raining since this morning, and is currently showing no signs of stopping. We probably will not feel as much impact from the winter storm as many of the areas hit, but it's still probably going to freeze at night from here on out. With all the rain, there'll be plenty of ice, so be mindful of it when driving!
Wednesday, November 7, 2012
3:25 p.m. in Orofino-It rained last night, and some this morning. If it had been colder out, we probably would have seen a bit of snow. There is a definite bite to the air today! The National Weather Service is predicting a winter storm to hammer western Montana and parts of north central Idaho tomorrow and Friday. Orofino probably will not see much, if any, snow accumulation, but it will dip below freezing, so we may get plenty of ice.
Tuesday, November 6, 2012
5:10 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather was much like yesterday's - a high near 60, and no rain, and even a little sun. Enjoy it while you can - this weekend will be a lot colder!
Monday, November 5, 2012
4:12 p.m. in Orofino-Hopefully
Orofino residents enjoyed today's high of about 60, because a cold front is
headed our way. As we head into the weekend the highs will plummet to the
mid-thirties. Here's what the National Weather Service has to say about it: "Significant
winter weather impacts will begin Wednesday of this week. The initial front on
Wednesday will have relatively high snow levels and mainly get the area wet.
Sometime Thursday, probably late afternoon or evening, an arctic front will
impact northwest " While
this forecast talks of Montana, it is going to affect Orofino too, to some
" While this forecast talks of Montana, it is going to affect Orofino too, to some degree.
Friday, November 2, 2012
10:20 a.m. in Orofino-Trick or Treat Rocking the Streets was well-attended and rain-free. It was fortunate the event was on Wednesday, as Thursday it poured rain in the afternoon and evening. Also in the afternoon were some moderately strong wind gusts, which whipped up little tornadoes of leaves and deposted some of them in nice, neat rows in the middle of Michigan Avenue. Today there are plenty of rain clouds, but it's also partly sunny, so we may get another mixed day weather-wise. This weekend is Daylight Saving Time - remember to set your clocks back one hour when you go to bed Saturday night.
Wednesday, October 31, 2012
4:35 p.m. in Orofino-The weather for Halloween Day has been free of rain, in spite of looming clouds. Hopefully the same will be true of this evening. Local merchants have been setting up on Johnson Avenue all afternoon, and at 5:00 Trick or Treat Rocking the Streets officially begins. If the rain stays away, it should be a pretty fun event!
Tuesday, October 30, 2012
2:40 p.m. in Orofino-Today has been less off the all than yesterday in terms of wildly fluctating between sunny and pouring rain. Otherwise, it's similar - in the 60s, overcast, some rain, and not long ago we had a couple minutes of sunshine. Expect similar weather for the rest of the week.
Monday, October 29, 2012
3:40 p.m. in Orofino-Rain and more rain here in Orofino, but at least we're not in a hurricane's path. Today our weather has veered from sunny and partly cloudy to dark and pouring rain. It's not too cool out, though, and later this week the high is supposed to reach 67 degrees!
Friday, October 26, 2012
12:15 p.m. in Orofino-Wednesday's reprieve from the rain and cold didn't last, although it still hasn't been quite as cold as Monday and Tuesday were. Yesterday it poured rain off and on. Today it's a bit breezy, and though it hasn't done much raining (yet), the rain clouds have us surrounded. Rain is expected through the weekend. The temperatures will creep up into the high 50s, so at least it won't be TOO cold.
Wednesday, October 24, 2012
4:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today, though still not "warm," was noticeably warmer than Monday and Tuesday. Clouds have lingered, but it didn't rain and was even partly sunny. There's a light breeze at the moment, and the sun is about to go down. Daylight Saving Time is next weekend.
Tuesday, October 23, 2012
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-It looks like rain is in the forecast for the rest of the week, and the highs will creep down into the upper 40s instead of the 50s. Still no mention of snow for Orofino specifically, but Weippe residents reported snow this morning. And in Orofino it has poured rain almost non-stop, all day long.
Monday, October 22, 2012
5:15 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was nice, and the temperature was pleasant - today it's freezing and rainy! The weather forecast says it will rain rather than snow, but our lows are now consistently in the range where we could get snow. Still, if the highs go back into the 50s, it's pretty unlikely to snow.
Friday, October 19, 2012
11:32 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was a beautiful day; today it's rainy and fairly dreary. If you subscribe to our online paper, check out Online Only News (Oct. 19) for a report on what we might expect for winter weather this year. In short, it MAY be dryer and warmer, but the NOAA is hestitant to say for sure, due to a number of factors, including El Niño's behavior.
Wednesday, October 17, 2012
5:40 p.m. in Orofino-It was partly cloudy today, but we also enjoyed plenty of sunshine and pleasant daytime temperatures. It did not rain, though more is expected as early as Thursday night. Lows will drop into the 30s at the end of this week, too.
Tuesday, October 16, 2012
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-If you live in the Clearwater or Lewis Clark valleys, you'll undoubtedly be aware of the strong gusts of wind whipping through the area since early this morning. A few tree branches have broken, and garbage cans went rolling down many a street. There's still wind at the moment, but the strong gusts have backed off (for now). They may return this evening. The temperature would be fairly pleasant if not for the cool wind.
Monday, October 15, 2012
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-We have rain! Everyone will be griping about it before too long, but it has been refreshing compared with smoke. We'll have some partly sunny days later this week. Tonight the National Weather Service predicts some heavy rainfall, and after midnight we may get some thunder. The low will be about 55 degrees.
Friday, October 12, 2012
1:35 p.m. in Orofino-Whereas yesterday felt warmer, today there was quite a drop in temperature. It is also more smoky out, and from what little can be seen through the smoke, it may also be overcast. Starting as early as tonight, we can expect to be pelted with rain through the weekend and possibly into next week.
Thursday, October 11, 2012
4:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today feels like the warmest day of the week, so far. Enjoy these sunny (if cool days); the National Weather Service says, beginning this weekend, a major weather change is coming. Until then, current smoke advisories and burn bans will likely remain in effect.
Wednesdsay, October 10, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-It's somewhat smoky out here, yet again, though nowhere near as smoky as it was earlier this summer. Today it smelled like autumn outside. At the moment it's almost warm, but that never lasts long this time of year!
Tuesday, October 9, 2012
5:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today was another mild, sunny day. We finally have a mention of rain in the weather forecast; Saturday and Sunday the presence of precipitation is described as "likely." Highs this week will be in the 60s and 70s, and lows will be in the low 40s and high 30s.
Monday, October 8, 2012
4:45 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday was borderline warm during the day. It's remained sunny, but gets cooler and cooler out. We also had smoke all weekend and again today - not as thick as Fair Days Saturday, but thick enough you could smell it indoors.
Friday, October 5, 2012
1:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's very sunny out today, but's definitely not "warm." The nights are down into the 30s lately. It'll start raining one of these days, but so far there's no mention in the forecast.
Wednesday, October 3, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Wind from yesterday lasted into the night, but today is merely a faint breeze. And while it's noticeably cooler out today, it remains sunny and beautiful; the kind of day you hate to spend indoors.
Tuesday, October 2, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-The beautiful weather continues. We did got a somewhat strong wind today, and if the wind is regional it may have a negative effect on the wildfires, which are slowly coming under control. Enjoy this perfect weather while you can - beginning late this week the temperature will start dropping.
Monday, October 1, 2012
4:40 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was pretty nice, and today is beautiful out, too. There is smoke, but it's not too thick. The temperature is going to drop significantly later this week, with highs dropping into the 60s and lows down to the 30s.
Friday, September 28, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-The nice weather - warm but not hot - remains tempered by smoke. The Nez Perce Tribe yesterday re-instated their air quality advisory and burn ban. It's in effect at least through today, and possibly through the weekend.
Wednesday, September 26, 2012
3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Today is warmer still, almost bordering on toasty. There's a great light breeze, and it's sunny with no smoke.
Tuesday, September 25, 2012
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-It was a little warmer today, and mostly sunny rather than mostly overcast. There's a faint haze of smoke against the hillsides. The Nez Perce Tribe has lifted the burn ban and air quality advisory, for now.
Monday, September 24, 2012
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was mostly overcast, but it didn't rain. It hasn't rained so far today, either. We may get some this weekend, but until Friday, at least, it should stay dry. The wildfire smoke has backed way off. Today there is barely any.
Friday, September 21, 2012
4:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today's smoke is officially the worst we've had this fire season. It surpasses even the Saturday of the county fair, Sept. 15.
10:40 a.m. in Orofino-The smoke isn't even letting up in the mornings the last couple of days. Yesterday it was warmer out, maybe in the high 80s. Today it's been overcast. There's still no mention of rain in the forecast for this week. It's to the point that many would rather have rain than all the smoke, and most certainly the wildfires.
Wednesday, September 19, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-It is, overall, a little cooler today, but still nice out (as always, ignoring the smoke). The smoke's pattern this week has been to drift in late morning or early afternoon and drift away by evening. C-PTPA still has the fire danger level listed as high. Permits for outdoor debris burning, including burn barrels, are not currently being issued, and are illegal. Stage I Fire Restrictions as per Idaho Code 38-115 are in effect. These restrict campfires and smoking in forested areas to approved safe locations only.
Tuesday, September 18, 2012
2:00 p.m. in Orofino-The smoke is worse today than it was yesterday. It was once again clear in the morning, but it's drifted in. Still not as bad as fair weekend, but bad enough. The temperature is in the 80s, and it's sunny and bright out. The National Weather Service forecast doesn't mention rain for the rest of the week; it does mention smoke every day, though.
Monday, September 17, 2012
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday's smoke was the worst of the weekend. Sunday there was over half again as much. This morning it was clear, but a little has drifted in since then. Otherwise it is beautiful - sunny and clear, and warm but not uncomfortably hot.
Friday, September 14, 2012
11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Unfortunately, the smoke hasn't let up one bit. Last night was another cold one, and today is cooler, too, so far. It even seems overcast, though with all the smoke it's hard to be sure. In spite of the smoke, attendance wasn't lacking at the fair yesterday.
Thursday, September 13, 2012
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-On the first day of the Clearwater County Fair, the temperature is pleasant, but the wildfire smoke is decidely not. It's so thick it once again looks more like fog. It's expected to remain this thick until at least tomorrow morning. Hopefully it won't continue all weekend. Outside at the moment, food, clothing, and craft vendors are setting up on two blocks of College Avenue, which have been blocked off by the city for this exact purpose.
Wednesday, September 12, 2012
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Last night it got down as low as 40 degrees, but today it's nice and warm again. The nights are supposted to warm up some beginning tomorrow, but they still won't be THAT warm. We had some smoke again today - it's so frequently smoky here it's becoming as common to say that as to say, we got some rain today. Fair weekend's weather is, thus far, predicted to be perfect!
Tuesday, September 11, 2012
11:15 a.m. in Orofino-We had a windy, smoky weekend. It was also very sunny and beautiful out, excluding all the smoke! It was nearly as thick as it was a couple weekends ago, to the point it seemed more like fog. There was a thunderstorm Saturday night, and it rained for a couple of minutes (enough to make everyone's automobile aboslutely filthy). The nights are getting pretty cool, but the days remain fairly warm, with highs in the upper 80s. Yesterday it was overcast for a while, but didn't rain.
Friday, September 7, 2012
12:45 p.m. in Orofino-Smoke is back at the moment, but like the last several days, it is otherwise perfect out. Even with it getting dark so much sooner, you couldn't ask for better weather.
Thursday, September 6, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-It gets pretty dark by 7:30 these days, and by 8:00 is almost full-on darkness. Today it's a little bit hotter out, though still not the baking summer heat we had until the last couple of weeks. Fire danger remains extremely high, as there hasn't been precipitation. The McGuire Complex fire by Dixie, Idaho is only 5% contained, and there is another fire near Powell, Idaho, that is close to Highway 12.
Wednesday, September 5, 2012
5:35 p.m. in Orofino-If not for the light smoke hovering over Orofino, today would be another perfect September day. The smoke isn't nearly as thick as it has been some days, so it really doesn't do much to mar today's otherwise beautiful weather. Great weather is, so far, expected through the weekend.
Tuesday, September 4, 2012
3:40 p.m. in Orofino-Labor Day weekend was beautiful, warm, and smoke-free. It was rather windy for part of Monday. Today is also warm and beautiful, but we did have some smoke earlier this afternoon. It seems to have disappeared, for now.
Friday, August 31, 2012
12:10 p.m. in Orofino-Our smokeless day was a fluke; the smell of it came back later Wednesday, and smoke has settled into the valley off and on since then. Right now it's pretty hazy, though still not as bad as this past Sunday. The temperature has been noticeably cooler, but very pleasant. Highs have been in the 80s. At 10 a.m. this morning, the AmericanWest Bank sign said it was only 61 degrees. The weather for Labor Day should be beautiful, ignoring the presence of smoke, but it's very dry out and there are numerous fire resctrictions in place.
Wednesday, August 29, 2012
4:30 p.m. in Orofino-The smoke has finally cleared. The sky is blue, the sun is bright, and the breeze feels great. It's cooler today, maybe in the low 80s. If you like the sun without the high temperatures, you're probably loving Orofino's weather today.
Tuesday, August 28, 2012
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-Today's bordering on hot, but it's still not unbearable. It is again smoky and windy, though the smoke presence is nothing like it was Sunday. The rest of the week the highs are predicted to be in the 80s. Tonight there's a tiny chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Monday, August 27, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Smoke smoke smoke! There's been some today, but yesterday it was so smoky you'd have thought Orofino itself was on fire. Last night it rained, which came as quite a surprise. Today it's pretty nice out - warm, but not scalding.
Friday, August 24, 2012
12:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was great out - it was very warm, but not hot, with a nice breeze and plenty of sun. Today and this weekend look to be the same. Some folks are wondering whether this could be a sign summer is just beginning to wind down. It feels like summer has just started!
Wednesday, August 22, 2012
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-Lightning strikes supposedly hit in this area yesterday, but they weren't obvious from downtown Orofino. Today it's clear, hot, and windy, as it has been for most of the last few weeks.
Tuesday, August 21, 2012
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-So far, not much has happened with regard to the severe storm warning, which claimed lightning, hail, and even rain could impact the area as early as this afternoon. It's been overcast off and on all day. When it becomes overcast, the temperature feels significantly cooler than it does when the clouds part and the sun blasts us again. There's still wildfire smoke, and it feels close to 100 when it's not overcast.
Monday, August 20, 2012
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Heat and smoke is the weather theme of late, but later this week there may be more to it. The National Weather Service has issued a severe storm warning, which may kick in as early as tomorrow. It could include hail, rain, and lightning. As always with these warnings, time will tell!
Friday, August 17, 2012
1:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today's another sunny, smoky day; there's even a light wind. Wildfires are still quite a problem, and these continuing dry, windy conditions aren't conducive to containment. To view updates on wildfires, both locally and nationally, visit inciweb.org. The Steep Corner fire, where 20-year-old Anne Veseth was killed by a falling snag, is 40% contained as of this morning.
Wednesday, August 15, 2012
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Wildfires continue to plague the Pacific Northwest (and many states beyond), and this area is no exception. It's again smoky out, and the Nez Perce Tribe is issuing air quality advisories. Wind and hot temperatures are expected for the rest of the week. This morning it seemed overcast out, but it could have been from all the smoke.
Tuesday, August 14, 2012
5:30 p.m. in Orofino-The wildfire smoke has found us - it's been semi-hazy all day. Strangely, it doesn't smell smoky (yet). The air is hot and stagnant out, in spite of the mild breeze. By the time Saturday rolls around we can expect temperatures above 100.
Monday, August 13, 2012
3:40 p.m. in Orofino-The summer sun keeps on roasting Orofino! Wildfires are really taking off, too. So far not much smoke is lingering over Orofino, which is a bit of a surprise. The rest of the week, highs are predicted to be in the 90s, with lows high 50s.
Friday, August 10, 2012
2:20 p.m. in Orofino-In spite of the sweltering daytime heat, evenings, as the sun goes down, aren't half bad. Today it's pretty toasty again, with a strong breeze. Lightning isn't expected to hit Orofino, but yesterday afternoon it did pelt the Clearwater and Nez Perce national forests, starting 41 fires. More are expected from another lightning storm in the next couple of days.
Wednesday, August 8, 2012
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Almost half of the day has been overcast, and once again, the heat smothers you the instant you set foot outside. There's a hot breeze blowing, too. So far the cloud cover hasn't resulted in rain or lightning.
Tuesday, August 7, 2012
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-It's another sweltering summer day today, with a high of 100 or more. It's been a bit overcast off and on this afternoon, but otherwise sunny and clear. The highs for the rest of the week are predicted to be in the upper 90s.
Monday, August 6, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino was roasted over the weekend. Earlier today it was a little cooler out, and quite overcast, but now it's sunny and hot again. The National Weather Service predicted we might get some thunderstorms. Either that's later tonight, or it simply didn't happen. Tomorrow it's supposed to get to 100 degrees.
Friday, August 3, 2012
11:45 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday ended up being mostly cloudy, though there was no rain or thunder and lightning. Today, at the moment, it's sunny and there's not a cloud in the sky. This weekend is supposed to be hot, with highs at least in the upper 90s.
Wednesday, August 1, 2012
4:32 p.m. in Orofino-There's not a cloud in the sky, and it's about 91 degrees out right now. There's a warm breeze, too. It's supposed to be even hotter later this week.
Tuesday, July 31, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's another hot, sunny day in Orofino. It's possible the rainy SUMMER days are behind us for the year. No one is ready to talk about rainy autumn days just yet!
Monday, July 30, 2012
3:55 p.m. in Orofino-We had overcast moments over the weekend, but most of the time it was sunny and, while hot, it wasn't unmercifully so. Today is along those same lines, and the rest of the week looks to be that way also. Right now there's zero mention of rain and thunder.
Friday, July 27, 2012
12:51 p.m. in Orofino-Both yesterday and today have been hot and partly overcast. So far there's been no precipitation or thunder and lighting. Highs for the rest of the week are expected to be in the low 90s. There will probably be more overcast days, since the National Weather Service continues to predict a 20% chance of thunderstorms for the next few days.
Wednesday, July 25, 2012
2:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's a toasty one today, though still not as hot as this past weekend. Tomorrow it's going to be close to 100 degrees. The chance of thunderstorms starts Friday, but it's still such a slight chance that it may not even happen.
Tuesday, July 24, 2012
2:40 p.m. in Orofino-Today it is once again sunny and warm, but not too hot. Tomorrow will be a little warmer than today. Now Thursday's forecast says it will get into the upper 90s, but after that should go back down to 90 or so. Friday there's a slight chance of thunderstorms. Lows continue to be in the 50s.
Monday, July 23, 2012
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-The severe thunderstorm never did hit us directly; the bits we got Friday were all we felt of it. This weekend was mostly sunny and warm, but not quite as hot as usual. Today it's cooler still - plenty warm, but not a baking heat. Highs for the rest of the week are supposed to be in the upper 80s to low 90s, with lows in the 50s.

3:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today we've had more overcast moments than sunny ones. About half an hour ago it rained for a spell. Earlier there was a few minutes of thunder. Now the sun is back out. Some heavyish wind whipped through for a while, and a breeze is currently rustling the leaves. Some heavy storms have been reported in the Lewiston area. It's unclear whether they will hit Orofino full-bore, or if we've seen the worst of them, though the National Weather Service has us on a severe thunderstorm watch.
Wednesday, July 18, 2012
4:40 p.m. in Orofino-It did cloud up last night, though here in Orofino the rain didn't amount to much. At one point, right around sunset, the part of the sky over Riverside was a bright pink, while the clouds in the direction of Grangemont were a deep gray-blue. Today it's been sunny and in the 90s, with a light wind blowing. Thunderstorms are predicted to hit off and on for the rest of the week.
Tuesday, July 17, 2012
2:50 p.m. in Orofino-A flash flood warning was issued for our area yesterday, and it was in effect until 11 p.m. In downtown Orofino all we got was some rain. Up higher in the woods, however, it was reported as quite the storm. Trees fell, and the rain hammered down in sheets. Today it's hotter again, and the skies look mostly clear. Despite this, the National Weather Service reports a 50% chance of heavy rain later today.
Monday, July 16, 2012
2:30 p.m. in Orofino-The heavy rain we expected Saturday did not occur until Sunday morning. Since then, the air has been far less humid, and it's been cooler, though still warm out. The National Weather Service says another rainstorm may pelt us Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. There's a light breeze right now, and some cloud cover. Most of it is too light to result in rain or lightning, but there are distant clouds capable of precipitation.
Friday, July 13, 2012
12:00 p.m. in Orofino-It continues to be toasty out in Orofino. It's a little bit hazy out, and it's hard to tell whether it's smoke or merely a light cloud cover. It's also sunny and a bit breezy. There's still about a 60% chance of heavy rain tomorrow, and about a 50% chance tonight.
Thursday, July 12, 2012
1:20 p.m. in Orofino-The temperature is in the 90s right now, and by mid-afternoon it'll be close to 100 degrees. It's also muggy out, so it feels like you can't breathe. Tonight and tomorrow there's a tiny chance of thunderstorms AND rain. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service, the chance of heavy rain is 60%. If it does rain, it will at least relieve the lingery mugginess we've experienced all week.
Wednesday, July 11, 2012
4:23 p.m. in Orofino-It's hot out today, and it's going to be hot out tomorrow. It is, after all, summertime! The forecast still says it will cool off just a few degrees later in the week, and there will continue to be a slight chance of thunderstorms. Right now it's well into the 90s outside, and the sky is clear.
Tuesday, July 10, 2012
5:40 p.m. in Orofino-We were hit with a thunderstorm last night, and the amount of dust on some cars suggests it rained, if only briefly. We may get more thunder and lightning tonight. It will back off for Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, but could return for the weekend. Until the weekend, highs will continue to be near 100 degrees, and lows will be in the 60s. It will cool down a hair beginning Sunday, but highs will still be in the 90s.
Monday, July 9, 2012
5:10 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was hot and humid, much like today, except today it was overcast all afternoon. Hopefully it will a bit later and relieve some of this humidity; if it doesn't, tomorrow will be extremely muggy, as it is predicted to be near 100 again. The forecast says we're likely to get thunder tonight, but not much rain.
Friday, July 6, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-It's a toasty Friday, with a light breeze and very few clouds in sight. There are a lot of people out and about, running errands, or gearing up to travel for the weekend. Enjoy that summer heat...FINALLY!
Thursday, July 5, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-It was a beautiful Fourth of July in Orofino, and today is equally beautiful - and hot! It's going to get even hotter over the weekend, and bring with it a slight chance of thunderstorms.
Tuesday, July 3, 2012
4:50 p.m. in Orofino-We've had a mix of overcast and sunny today. This afternoon a strong, cool wind kicked in, and it's keeping the Farmers Market vendors on their toes. According to the forecast, the weather is supposed to be sunny for the rest of the week, and get progressively hotter. Saturday and Sunday the highs are predicted to be right around 100.
Monday, July 2, 2012
4:35 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was an interesting mix of stormy and sunny. Saturday it was nice out until evening; then a thunder and lightning storm hit, followed by sheets of rain. Sunday morning started out rainy and overcast, but it cleared by late afternoon and was beautiful through the evening. Today started out sunny and has mostly remained that way, but some clouds have moved in. And it's pretty toasty out! Tonight there's a strong chance of showers. July 4 looks to be perfect, though - sunny, with a high slightly above 80.
Friday, June 29, 2012
2:00 p.m. in Orofino-Our sunny until the weekend weather prediction hasn't proven as cut and dry as the forecast made it sound. Wednesday and Thursday were hot and sunny. Today is getting there, but until this afternoon it was overcast and cooler out (i.e. not as hot as yesterday). It's now looking like it may rain Saturday night and some of Sunday, then clear up Monday and Tuesday. If it does rain this weekend, hopefully it won't be much!
Wednesday, June 27, 2012
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Summer weather has returned! It's not scorching hot out, but it's definitely good and warm, with a light breeze. Similar weather should last the rest of the week. This weekend may bring a little inclement weather; it's hard to say for sure.
Tuesday, June 26, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Looking or stepping outside today, you'd think it was March, not late June. The sun is peeking out of the clouds at the moment, but most of today has been overcast, with downpours off and on. This morning, a few minutes before 4:30, a loud thunder clap startled awake a number of residents. But, hang in there - Wednesday through Friday are supposed to be sunny and warm. Saturday and Sunday there's a very slight chance of some thunder and lightning, and maybe rain. The chance is small, though.
Monday, June 25, 2012
3:30 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was pretty nice. We had some windy moments, and maybe a smattering of nighttime rain (at most), but overall it was warm and mostly sunny. Today the sky is mostly clear and it's good and warm out again, right around 80. Tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service, there is a 100 percent chance of showers. Friday, June 22, 2012
11:45 a.m. in Orofino-The dark clouds from this morning have disappeared, leaving a mostly clear blue sky. There's a mild wind, and a few white, wispy clouds here and there. For the most part, today now looks like it'll be just like yesterday. The forecast predicts rain showers tonight.
9:55 a.m. in Orofino-Today may bring some inclement weather, if the sky is any indication. Yesterday was hot and sunny, one of the hottest - if not the hottest, to date - days of the year so far. Today feels like it will get pretty warm, by may bring rain and/or thunderstorms. It also looks and smells like smoke outside. Unfortunately, similar weather is predicted for the weekend.
Wednesday, June 20, 2012
2:25 p.m. in Orofino-It's a beautiful summer day, finally! The temperature today will reach about 80, and the sky is bright and blue. Tomorrow expect more of the same, but with a high of about 90. Then get ready for more clouds and perhaps rain.
Tuesday, June 19, 2012
2:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has included a great deal more sunshine that yesterday's, as well as far less rain. The temperature is a little warmer, but not by much. Tomorrow there's no mention of rain, but the end of the week is predicted to bring more, with highs on either side of 80.
Monday, June 18, 2012
3:30 p.m. in Orofino-The weekend was warm and partly cloudy to sunny. Sunday included some mildly strong winds. Today we have had rain, rain, and more rain, with occasional breaks and a moment or two of sunshine, plus more wind. The temperature is not bad, but the rainy weather makes it seem cooler than it is.
Friday, June 15, 2012
10:20 a.m. in Orofino-It was sunny and nice out yesterday, though it did cloud up in the evening. Today it's beautiful out again, complete with a light breeze. Saturday is supposed to be warm and sunny, with a high near 80. Sunday there's a small chance of rain, also with a high near 80. After that it is forecasted to cool off just a few degrees, and it may rain, but the chance is slight, so it's hard to say.
Wednesday, June 13, 2012
2:55 p.m. in Orofino-We had an epic rain and thunderstorm last night - some of the thunder sounded like it was right outside the front door. After the thunder wrapped up, we were pelted with heavy rain. According to reports, Lewiston experienced a touch of the storm, while Grangeville got as much as this area did.
Tuesday, June 12, 2012
3:40 p.m. in Orofino-It rained overnight, then was sunny for a few hours. About half an hour ago we heard thunder and it rained, but now it's getting bright out once again. The sky is definitely not blue right now, so more rain and thunder could be on its way. Tomorrow there's a good chance of rain, but after that we should get a reprieve for a couple of days.
Monday, June 11, 2012
2:20 p.m. in Orofino-At last, we have consistent sunshine! We also enjoyed some Sunday. Today, the skies are clear and it feels like it's at least in the mid-70s outside. Thre's also a mild breeze. It's definitely the kind of day you'd rather be outside.
Friday, June 8, 2012
10:30 a.m. in Orofino-The rain continues today. Yesterday it backed off for a while, and in the morning it was bright out. Anyone who is sick to death of rain (and who wouldn't be, by now?) will have to endure rain for at least a few more days.
Wednesday, June 6, 2012
3:10 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather is overcast and dreary, but it's not as dark out as it was yesterday. It'll undoubtedly rain later on, and the temperature is in the 50s. Idaho Free Fishing Day is Saturday; hopefully it will clear up for that.
Tuesday, June 5, 2012
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-That severe storm predicted for yesterday hit in the evening. It belted the area with heavy rain, thunder, and hail larger in diameter than a quarter. Today it's been dark and dreary, chilly, windy, and raining off and on. Right now the forecast, for he rest of the week, predicts more rain, with highs in the 50s and 60s.
Monday, June 4, 2012
4:25 p.m. in Orofino-The weekend was a mixed bag again, but the only significant rain was late Sunday night - a downpour loud enough to wake you from a dead sleep! There were a few hours of sunlight. Today the high is about 80, and it's been partly sunny to mostly cloudy. A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until midnight. The storm could also bring hail and high winds of up to 21 mph. Tomorrow the high is supposed to drop almost 30 degrees, to the low or mid 50s.
Friday, June 1, 2012
10:50 a.m. in Orofino-Thursday's partly sunny forecast didn't come true - it rained off and on all day and into the evening. The predicted high temperature was accurate, though. Today looks like it'll be about like yesterday. It's very balmy and humid out. This weekend is forecast to be rainy, too.
Wednesday, May 30, 2012
3:35 p.m. in Orofino-It's been mostly overcast today, but no rain so far. It's also been somewhat warm, with a high close to 80 degrees. There's a light breeze blowing right now. Tomorrow night there's a very small chance of showers, but otherwise it will be partly sunny, with a high near 75 degrees.
Tuesday, May 29, 2012
8:45 p.m. in Orofino-The weather over Memorial Day weekend was a mixed bag. A lot of it was overcast and there was some rain. Monday we did enjoy some sunshine. Today was much the same, and the forecast for the rest of the week is along these lines, too. The highs are predicted to get into the upper 70s over the weekend.
Friday, May 25, 2012
12:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday it got pretty warm - at least into the 70s - and we enjoyed some blazing sun for a while in the afternoon. A ferocious downpour, accompanied by a rainbow, hit at about 5:30, and lasted about 20 minutes before tapering off to a drizzle. Today the weather looks to be similar - alternating between overcast and windy, to sunny and beautiful. It seems likely to rain at some point today.
Wednesday, May 23, 2012
2:10 p.m. in Orofino-Last night a heavy downpour blasted Orofino for hours. Today it's been mostly overcast, with moments of sunshine. So far, no rain, though we'll likely get more at some point today.
The National Weather Service issued the following statement about parts of southern Idaho and Montana, for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend:
"An impressive pacific
weather system will slowly progress through Lemhi county and western "
Tuesday, May 22, 2012
3:20 p.m. in Orofino-Rain hit early yesterday evening and continued into today. Right now, for the first time today, it's somewhat bright out. The air smells fresh and clean. Rain clouds are still looming, though, and it still looks to be a rainy week. Hopefully things will clear up for the long weekend.
Monday, May 21, 2012
3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday was beautiful, but things changed Sunday. It was overcast all day, and sometime in the night it rained. Not much - just enough to dirty your car. This morning it rained for a couple of minutes, and since then it looks like could rain again at any moment (but so far, it hasn't). The forecast, right now, says it's going to be a rainy week.
Friday, May 18, 2012
10:30 a.m. in Orofino-As predicted, it was cooler yesterday, and feels like it will be cooler today; but it's still undeniably warm out. Yesterday it was overcast, off and on, but never did rain. Today there's a light wind, and plenty of sunshine. Saturday should be about like today, and Sunday it will warm up to about 80 degrees.
Wednesday, May 16, 2012
12:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today is supposed to be the final day of 90 degree weather this week. Starting tomorrow, the high will be around 70, though on Sunday it could go up to 76. There's a very small chance of rain Thursday night, but look for the rest of the week to be precipitation free, and beautiful!
Tuesday, May 15, 2012
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-It's another toasty one today, with the addition of some afternoon wind. A lot of folks are out and about, taking walks or jogging. The National Weather Service's prediction that it could rain later in the week has changed; now it says it'll be partly to mostly sunny. It does still insist the high will drop to about 70 degrees, beginning Thursday.
Monday, May 14, 2012
2:45 p.m. in Orofino-Today feels like the hottest day of the year, so far - it's right around 90 degrees. It warmed up this weekend, but today it's actually hot out, not just "warm." Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be almost as hot, but Thursday it'll cool down some, and it may rain (though the chance of showers is pretty slight).
Friday, May 11, 2012
2:45 p.m. in Orofino-This Friday has been another beautiful day in May. The temperature is about the same as the last couple of days, and it's breezy out, but so far not the heavier wind from earlier this week. It still looks to be a beautiful weekend!
Thursday, May 10, 2012
2:40 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday's wind gusts picked up for a while last night. Today the wind is about like it was yesterday, during the day, except colder. It's sunny and clear out, but the wind makes it feel cooler than it is. A beautiful weekend is expected, and Monday's high is supposed to be in the mid to upper 80s.
Wednesday, May 9, 2012
5:20 p.m. in Orofino-Overall, today has been perfect, but some lingering, semi-dark clouds have been hovering off and on. They've finally moved in, and its overcast, but at the moment they don't look dark enough to produce precipitation. It's been windy today, too, and some of the gusts are a little strong.
Tuesday, May 8, 2012
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-Today has been beautiful, and a little warmer than Monday. The forecast still says it will be sunny for the rest of the week, with highs ranging from 61 to 77. Next Monday it may even get into the 80s.
Monday, May 7, 2012
4:10 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday and Sunday were mostly sunny, though both days it was overcast for a little while. Otherwise, it was beautiful. Today it's been mostly sunny, and warmer out, with a high in the upper 70s. The weather forecast predicts sunny weather for the rest of the week.
Friday, May 4, 2012
11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday it rained a lot, usually in a downpour. Today looks to be more like Wednesday - some sunny moments mixed with overcast ones, with little to no rain. Saturday is supposed to feature the largest full moon of the year. And Sunday, look for sunshine and a high of about 65 degrees. Monday is supposed to be sunny, and even warmer, with a high right around 75 degrees.
Wednesday, May 2, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Yet again, the weather cannot seem to make up its mind. It poured rain this morning, and since then has been alternating between overcast and mostly sunny. There's a chilly breeze blowing, and the high is just under 60 degrees. Similar weather is still predicted for the rest of the week.
Tuesday, May 1, 2012

The highs are predicted to be in the 60s (except Saturday, which will be a little cooler), with lows in the 40s.
Monday, April 30, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Our weekend was partly cloudy to mostly sunny, until Sunday night, when it rained. We received a lot of rain today, but right now the sun is out. The high today has been near 60, give or take a couple of degrees. When the sun is out, it's quite pleasant. Similar weather is expected for the next couple of days.
Friday, April 27, 2012
11:00 a.m. in Orofino-How quickly the weather changed! It was predicted, but the difference is nonetheless dramatic. Yesterday and today it is at least 20 degrees cooler out, with rain and bit of wind. The Clearwater River is expected to crest today or tomorrow, but the National Weather Service appears to have lifted their flood watch, for now. (A flood watch means the water could reach flood levels; a flood warning means it mostly likely will.) The forecast predicts rain for the next few days, but the chance is pretty low, so maybe we'll get lucky and the sun will come out again.
Wednesday, April 25, 2012
6:40 p.m. in Orofino-Today was another hot one, with plenty of sunshine and a high in the 80s. Last night we got thunder, hail, more thunder, and some bursts of pouring rain. Right now there aren't any black clouds looming, so perhaps this evening will be less dramatic.
Tuesday, April 24, 2012
2:45 p.m. in Orofino-Those thunderstorms hit after 11:00 last night, and brought a few minutes of heavy rainfall. It didn't last long, maybe an hour, but the lightning was pretty spectacular. Today we had some sun, but right now clouds are lurking, and we may get rain tonight. It's almost hot out, and a little bit muggy.
Monday, April 23, 2012
2:40 p.m. in Orofino-Saturday, Sunday, and today have all brought clear blue skies and those above average temperatures predicted by the National Weather Service. The highs have been around 80. It's almost enough to inspire the installation of one's air conditioner. These warmer temperatures are expected to continue until Thursday. Then it should cool off a little (though only to 70 or so). After that, they are predicted to drop below 60. Meanwhile, there's a 50% chance of thunderstorms tonight and about that much change of rain tomorrow. Wednesday and Thursday the chance of rain goes up. All this will lead to the possibility of flooding on the Clearwater River, as well as small streams, as early as Thursday.
Friday, April 20, 2012
11:10 a.m. in Orofino-The National Weather Service just issued a revised assessment of this weekend's weather. The above average warm temperatures are expected to last through Wednesday or Thursday of next week, and will cause enough snow melt to raise streams and creeks. That alone isn't expected to cause flooding (though it will bring everything much nearer to flood strage), but if there is also significant rainfall, flooding could become likely. They are not, at this time, "confident" it will rain much during this warm period.
11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday's weather, for the most part, was sunny, warm, and absolutely beautiful. It did cloud up in the early evening. Today those clouds are still here, and it's windy and a little cooler. It also looks like it'll be raining off and on. Saturday's weather is supposed to be great. Sunday there's a slight chance of rain, and that slight chance continues into next week, in spite of the National Weather Service's earlier prediction that a dry trend will still be going then. It will be interesting to see which prediction holds true!
Wednesday, April 18, 2012
4:30 p.m. in Orofino-One would think today's weather was on a timer. When the first part of the Clearwater River leg of the jet boat races kicked off at 10:00 this morning, rain clouds moved in and it poured. An hour later the clouds moved away and the sun blazed...until 2:00 rolled around, which was when the jet boats left Lewiston to return to Ahsahka. Then the clouds roared right back and the downpour resumed. Again, only for an hour or so. Then, out came the sun! Right now it's in between the two - not raining, but not terribly sunny, either.
Tuesday, April 17, 2012
1:15 p.m. in Orofino-So far today it's been perfect: sunny, pleasantly warm, and a bit breezy. The National Weather Service just issued a statement professing confidence in a warm, dry trend beginning across the Northern Rockies on Saturday, and continuing into next week. High temperatures could go into the 70s, and mild overnight temperatures are expected. All this could promote a period of increased snow melt. No mainstem river flooding is anticipated, but small streams and creeks could see high running water levels.
Monday, April 16, 2012
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-We had a beautiful spring weekend, and this morning it was wonderful until about 10:00 a.m. Then, it clouded up, and a bit over an hour later it began to pour. It hasn't stopped since it started. Hopefully the day the jet boat races pass through here will be a little warmer and drier.
Thursday, April 12, 2012
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Rain did finally hit last night. Today we've had a mix of overcast and sunny, with overcast eventually winning out. It was chilly this morning, but by noon it was pleasantly warm. More rain is expected.
Wednesday, April 11, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Earlier today it was difficult to believe the weather predicition for tonight: rain and more rain. Right now, though, look outside and you'll believe it. Regardless of tonight's rain, today was another beautiful spring day, and no jacket was needed.
Tuesday, Apri 10, 2012
4:35 p.m. in Orofino-Overall today was mostly overcast, but there has been sunshine, and more importantly, the temperature is great. A light breeze has topped off a beautiful spring day.
Monday, April 9, 2012
3:30 p.m. in Orofino-Beautiful weather graced Orofino Saturday, allowing for a perfect Easter egg hunt in the park. Sunday was overcast part of the time, but it cleared up later and was equally beautiful. Today is more of them same. A person hardly needs a jacket. Earlier it was sunny and right now it's overcast, though the clouds are so pale it's unlikely they'll rain.
Friday, April 6, 2012
1:50 p.m. in Orofino-Thursday was nicer than predicted - we enjoyed plenty of sun, despite the looming rain clouds and chilly wind. Today, so far, it's the same, except no sunshine. Instead, black clouds hover nearby. Right now it sure looks as though it could rain any second, but as always, it's hard to tell for sure!
Wednesday, April 4, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Rain bordering on snow fell all morning and half the afternoon here in downtown Orofino. It's finally stopped, but outside it's overcast and clouds capable of precipitation continue to loom. Rainy weather is still predicted for the rest of the week.
Tuesday, April 3, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today hasn't been as warm or sunny as the weather forecast suggested. There's quite a bite in the air, though it's not freezing cold. The forecast is calling for two to five inches of snow above 2,500 feet, beginning as early as tonight. The rest of the week calls for a lot of rain.
Monday, April 2, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Much of this weekend was overcast (though not all), and it poured for a while Saturday. Today it's been mostly sunny and noticeably warmer out, despite rain clouds hovering in the distance. Tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful, too, but after that the rain may return.
Friday, March 30, 2012
12:45 p.m. in Orofino-It never really did rain during the day yesterday, but overnight we got hit pretty hard. Right now it is absolutely pouring - the raindrops are fat and heavy, and falling in thick sheets. Perhaps that storm the National Weather Service predicted is on its way in, but time will tell.
Thursday, March 29, 2012
3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Though it's been overcast and a bit windy all day, it hasn't rained, yet. The temperature is pleasantly cool. It'll be interesting to see whether the National Weather Service's prediction of a rainy weekend comes to pass.
Wednesday, March 28, 2012
1:45 p.m. in Orofino-Rain
has hammered us for most of today, though right now it's partly sunny. The
National Weather Service has clarified its earlier predictions of heavy rainfall
hitting the area. They say:
“The atmospheric models are still indicating that a plume of warm moist air will
be streaming into the
Tuesday, March 27, 2012
1:15 p.m. in Orofino-We're enjoying sunshine today. It's windy, but cool out rather than chilly. Last night it poured rain again, just as it did Sunday night. More of the same is expected tonight. Heavy rain is supposed to hit north central Idaho and parts of eastern Montana this Friday in Saturday, causing some ponding and/or minor flooding in streams. Where exactly the heavy rain and flooding will hit is unclear at this time.
Monday, March 26, 2012
2:30 p.m. in Orofino-This weekend was pretty nice, right up until Sunday night, when a downpour hit and lasted well into Monday morning. Saturday was cloudy, but bright, and Sunday during the day the sun blazed and the temperature is perfect. There haven't been any reports of flooding (so far) in Clearwater County. On the Palouse there are reports of heavy flooding.
Friday, March 23, 2012
10:15 a.m. in Orofino-Most of Thursday was dreary, but in the middle of the afternoon the clouds began to back off and the sun came out, and stayed out until it went down for the evening. Some people around town had heard reports that today was going to be "nice out," but so far, it's not! Nor does it look promising. It's possible it could clear up later in the day, like it did yesterday.
Wednesday, March 21, 2012
2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Snowfall greeted us yet again this morning. In town it was too wet to last in terms of sticking, but reports from higher up, in places like the Cavendish Grade, suggest as much as three inches may have fallen today. In Orofino the snow became rain by late morning. Right now it's backed off, but will likely return any moment.
Tuesday, March 20, 2012
1:45 p.m. in Orofino-This morning we awoke to snowfall! It didn't stick here in town, but some did on the hills around us. We've heard reports that it is (or was) sticking in Pierce and Weippe. We have been blasted with heavy, slanted rain for the last couple of hours, and when things cool down tonight it may revert to snow again. The chilly breeze from yesterday is lingering, too. Welcome to spring!
Monday, March 19, 2012
3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Orofino's weekend weather was as predicted - overcast, dreary, rainy. There were also some heavy wind gusts. Today, for the morning and half of the afternoon, it's been sunny out, but it looked warmer than it was. A chilly breeze has been lingering, and now clouds are moving it. There is a slight chance of rain tonight, and an 80 percent change tomorrow. Highs will continue to be on either side of 50, and lows will be in the mid to high 30s.

11:40 a.m. in Orofino-It's raining, it's pouring! Yesterday it poured off and on all day, and that trend continues today. Expect more of the same this weekend, with highs near 50 and lows right around freezing.
Wednesday, March 14, 2012
11:50 a.m. in Orofino-Snow again dusted the hills around Orofino this morning, when they could be seen at all through the fog. Right now it is overcast, but the sun is fighting to break through, so it's not super dark out. Rain and more rain is still predicted for this entire week.
Tuesday, March 13, 2012
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-What a day it has been. We awoke to heavy gusts of wind and fat drops of snow/rain mix. The wind died down to a chilly breeze, and the snow/rain switched to regular rain and back a number of times. Right now the sun is blazing and the skies are clear. Rainy weather will undoubtedly hit more this week.
Monday, March 12, 2012
3:50 p.m. in Orofino-It's been overcast and dreary today, but very little to no rainfall. Saturday was a perfect, beautiful, sunny spring day, followed by a Sunday that dumped torrents of rain all afternoon and into the evening. Similar weather is expected to hit off and on all this week.
Friday, March 9, 2012
11:50 a.m. in Orofino-Yesterday was beautiful, and so is today; there's not a cloud in the sky at the moment. The weather forecast has changed from earlier in the week, and now predicts that Saturday will be like today, but rain showers are likely to hit on Sunday.
Wednesday, March 7, 2012
11:30 a.m. in Orofino-Last night it was freezing. Today, the sun is out, the skies are mostly clear, and it's noticeably warmer out. It should stay like this until the weekend, when rain may return.
Tuesday, March 6, 2012
1:55 p.m. in Orofino-Randonmness resumed today. It began sunny, then clouded up and alternately snowed and hailed. A few minutes ago the sun came out again. It's been breezy today, a holdover from last night, when we endured some fairly strong wind gusts. Starting tomorrow it's supposed to become sunny and mostly clear, and gradually warm up into the sixties.
Monday, March 5, 2012
2:45 p.m. in Orofino-We finally got some comparatively stable weather over the weekend, and today. This weekend included some sunshine, especially on Sunday. Perhaps it was to allow us to brace for the next onslaught, which could start tonight. Today it's overcast. So far, no precipitation, but the forecast calls for some tonight.
Friday, March 2, 2012
11:45 a.m. in Orofino-Wacky weather continues to pummel Orofino. Yesterday was the same bizarre fluctation between rain, hail, snow, and sun, that we've experienced all week. This morning we had some very minor flurries. Once those stopped, it's simply been overcast.
Tuesday, February 28, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather was a little more bearable and a lot less dramatic than this weekend's. It's been sunny and precipitation free, and while chilly, it's warmer than it was yesterday. Unfortunately, starting tonight, it's downhill again. Rain and even snow are predicted tonight and Wednesday.
Monday, February 27, 2012
3:23 p.m. in Orofino-Snow hit this weekend, as predicted. In downtown Orofino, while it was quite heavy, it was also too wet to stick. The tops of the surrounding valleys are white, though, and there have been reports higher up of 10 new inches. More snow is predicted for this week. On the bright side (no pun intended), we've had sunlight since late morning.
Friday, February 24, 2012
10:45 a.m. in Orofino-So far, it seems today's weather will be similar to the rest of the weeks, except less dramatic. It is once again warmer out, and overcast, with a bit of sun peeking through. So far it hasn't rained. Right now the clouds aren't dark enough to precipitate, though that could change later in the day. And just when you think we've seen the last snowfall of this winter, the weather forecast predicts more. This time it's Saturday night through Monday. The chance ranges from 50 percent to 30 percent. With lows slightly below freezing and highs right around 40, it could happen.
Wednesday, February 22, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has something for everyone. Wind gusts! Downpours! Black clouds! Dreariness! Even sunlight (fleeting, but it hits here and there)! The temperature isn't bad, either. Orofino Creek is muddy, and its roar can be heard from several yards away. If you're out and about, drive carefully - the wind gusts are strong enough to nudge cars a bit.
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-It has rained almost non-stop all day - almost because right now it has backed off. The temperature feels warmer, maybe in the 50s. Tomorrow we may get wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour, as well as more rain.
Monday, February 20, 2012
2:50 p.m. in Orofino-It snowed this morning, as it did Sunday morning. There's certainly a chill in the air, though less so than you might expect. Again, it is very wet snow that doesn't stick for long, if at all. The hilltops of the surrounding valley are still white.
Friday, February 17, 2012
1:45 p.m. in Orofino-Though overcast, it hasn't been as dreary today as you might expect. There's a breeze, and rain clouds are out and about, but so far there hasn't been precipitation. Clouds and rain are expected through most of the weekend.
Wednesday, February 15, 2012
2:30 p.m. in Orofino-Today's weather has been all over the map. This morning it was intense hail, followed by a few minutes rain/snow mix. Then the sun came out. Now it's clouding up again. Higher elevations saw some snow during the night, since the hills above us are whiter than they were yesterday.
Tuesday, February 14, 2012
1:10 p.m. in Orofino-While today has been overcast and mostly dreary, at the moment we're enjoying a bit of sunlight that's found its way through the cloud cover. The temperature is brisk, but not chilly.
Monday, February 13, 2012
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Rain and more rain! It hasn't been a downpour, but it's been present over the last few days. With it comes warmer temperatures, but the dreariness will get old pretty soon, especially since this kind of weather is predicted for the rest of the week.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012
5:30 p.m. in Orofino-It was mostly cloudy for part of today (perhaps a taste of that 20-30% chance of evening rain showers we probably won't get); otherwise it was warmer and pleasant out. The pattern of below-freezing nights and warmer days we have experienced all week continues!
Tuesday, February 7, 2012
3:35 p.m. in Orofino-Last night was another cold one, but the days continue to be sunny and a little warmer. There's a tiny chance of showers tomorrow night, and the evenings during the weekend, but other than that, weather like today's is expected for the rest of the week.

10:30 a.m. in Orofino-Today the skies are partly cloudy, and it's quite brisk out, unlike yesterday, when it was sunny and beautiful, and a little warmer. We may yet get some sunshine today, but it doesn't feel as though it'll get much warmer.
Wednesday, February 1, 2012
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-The first day of February has been dreary, murky, and rainy. This morning some very, very light snowfall kicked things off, but it soon turned to sprinkling rain, then a downpour that hasn't let up since it began at lunchtime.
Tuesday, January 31, 2012
11:00 a.m. in Orofino-Judging by the temperature and look of the sky, today's weather will be similar to yesterday's. This Thursday is Groundhog's Day. Last year the groundhog's prediction of an early spring was way off.
Monday, January 30, 2012
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-We got some rain last night and early this morning. Today it was a little warmer out, and we enjoyed a few hours of sunshine. Right now it's clouding over again, and it looks like it could rain again tonight. The weather we've had over the last week is what is predicted for the rest of this week. So far there is no mention whatsoever of snow.
Friday, January 27, 2012
4:00 p.m. in Orofino-Cold, mostly clear, and crisp out best describes today's weather. With no cloud cover the temperature is significantly lower, but everyone enjoyed the sunshine. It is still light out at 4:30 p.m., as the days are getting longer now that we're past December 21. The National Weather Service predicts a 70% chance of rain tomorrow, and possibly Sunday night.
Thursday, January 26, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-Earlier today it was partly cloudy, but sunny out. Now clouds have moved in and it may rain. It's again a little warmer out, and most of the snow on roads in town is long gone, though the huge piles of it created by snow plows will likely be there for several weeks.
Wednesday, January 25, 2012
5:15 p.m. in Orofino-Yesterday's snow didn't amount to anything, and stopped less than an hour after it began. Today we were supposed to see some freezing rain, but so far it hasn't happened, though it did rain for a while last night. It was a little warmer today, and while clouds lingered we did enjoy some sun in the morning and afternoon.
Tuesday, January 24, 2012
3:00 p.m. in Orofino-It's snowing! Instead of the predicted freezing rain, we are, it seems, going to have to endure more snow. It's been pretty cold out today, and snow clouds have slowly moved in. The flakes are pretty small. It's hard to tell whether this will amount to much, or how long it will last.
Monday, January 23, 2012
3:40 p.m. in Orofino-It did not rain all through the weekend; nor did it snow Saturday night. Today it's been sunny, with a high close to 40 degrees, and people are loving it. Tomorrow the forecast calls for freezing rain, then "regular" rain on Wednesday.

The forecast predicts rain all through the weekend, with a possibility for snow Saturday night.
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
3:15 p.m. in Orofino-Snow resumed last night and continued through lunchtime today, resulting in another six or so inches of snow. It stopped for about an hour, after the flakes decreased in size to where they seemed more like rain, but it has since picked back up and looks like snow again. Monday, January 16, 2012
3:45 p.m. in Orofino-The 5-6 inches of snowfall we received during a winter storm overnight is, by far, the most snow downtown Orofino has received this winter. Saturday night it tried to snow, but only a dab made it. This morning we awoke to light, fast snowflakes pouring down, even after the roads were plowed. Later the sun came out. The forecast says we may get more snow tomorrow.
Friday, January 13, 2012
12:15 p.m. in Orofino-The sunny, cold weather continues to continue! Frost in areas where the sun doesn't hit, or only hits for an hour a day, looks like like snowfall and has yet to melt. There may not be any actual snow, but there's plenty of ice, so be sure to drive safely.

Friday, January 6, 2012
4:20 p.m. in Orofino-Today wasn't quite as warm out as yesterday, but it was still pretty nice. We've had a dry spell since about Thanksgiving, and a report e-mailed to us today explained that most of Idaho's snowpacks are below normal.
Thursday, January 5, 2012
4:15 p.m. in Orofino-The forecast called for some rain, but so far none has fallen. Rain clouds have loomed all day. It was warm again, but the strong, brisk wind kept it from being as pleasant out as yesterday was. It's hard to tell whether or not it will rain later tonight.
Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Tuesday, January 3, 2012
5:00 p.m. in Orofino-Based on the texture of the ice on car windows this morning, it may have rained a little overnight, then froze into a bubbly mess that takes longer to melt. It was pretty brisk out again today, but we did enjoy some sunshine.
Monday, January 2, 2012
2:20 p.m. in Orofino-The first Monday of 2012 is a cold one, bringing iced over windows and enough frost that a quick glance might fool you into thinking a bit of snow had fallen. The high today was in the low to mid 30s. There is a slight chance of rain tonight and tomorrow, and possibly later in the week. It did not snow in downtown Orofino over the weekend.
